      Thank you for this!
      I just replaced the main board on my friend's 65X900C and it was blinking green/red when I turned it on.
      Then I unplugged it, put in a USB with the firmware and plugged it in again.
      It started playing music while the LED was still blinking! :) Black screen still...
      Now it's blinking white continuously for quite a long time. I'm worried it might be frozen. How long does the firmware step last usually?

    My KD-55X8509C went into a boot loop today and I fixed it the same day, although I may've been really lucky. I'll tell my story / experience in case it helps others. Over the past week my TV was operating very slowly (response to remote), then it started to not open apps, then it refused to even change channel input. Throughout that time I did several software restarts (Settings, About, Restart menu options) which normally used fix any problems for at least a few days, but these recent restarts weren't making the TV work any better. So as the TV was barely functioning I decided to do a software-based factory setting reset (from the menu) and when it rebooted that's when the boot loop problem happened. I'd always see the Sony logo upon reboot but the Android logo animation afterwards froze anywhere between 1 to say 15 seconds at most (typical around 4 seconds though) then it rebooted constantly. I did multiple power cycles (unplugging for 10 minutes at a time) and on power on / restart attempts I'd try both the holding power button and power and volume down button when plugging back in, but I simply never got it to force a factory reset (big wobbly circle thing that I was expecting). I left it reboot cycling for a while and it'd occasionally get to a point of just freezing on the android logo and stay frozen. After watching this video here for help I thought my TV was toast as I wasn't prepared to spend a bunch of money replacing the mainboard or EMMC chip only for it to probably play up again down the line. I even ended up in a local TV store eyeing up a replacement until I decided to just go home and try again with the Sony, even though I thought that it was junk by that point. It again did several more boot loop cycles but then the TV suddenly completed the android logo animation and it went to the factory reset menu (the start of the very initial setup process)! A glimmer of hope. However this menu was slow as hell, the music in background & the interface in general was constantly stuttering, and when I eventually managed to complete the initial setup it went back to the very start of the menu settings again!! At one point of that initial setup menu it got stuck for ages on the "checking for updates" screen, but it never found anything despite an ariel and ethernet lead being plugged in. I confirmed the ethernet was functioning by asking to read some online policy (which it had to use a web-page for to display the info). As I was now stuck in a factory reset menu loop I saw no other option but to do another full power cycle and the TV went back to boot looping for ages again. After more power cycles it eventually got to the "checking for updates" screen again (with the same poorly functioning menu) except this time I put in an USB stick containing the latest firmware update - the TV instantly started to copy the update from the stick to the TV, it then did the entire firmware update flawlessly, and at the end of it I was again back at the factory reset menu / process except this time it just worked as it should. After going through the setup process the TV was simply back to working 100% normally, well for now at least! As it's essentially a fresh install (alike a new Windows installation) it's running faster & better than ever!! I now have a lot of customisations to do again due to everything being reset, but it's alive!!!!! Maybe I was really lucky on this one as it seems to be an entirely software-based fault that was essentially fixed by having the TV's software removed & replaced with the latest firmware once I got passed the extremely janky / unstable / corrupt software from before. Obviously if it'd been an actual hardware fault then you can't update around that in software, but my point being is that boot loops can seemingly sometimes "just" be software faults that can be flashed out if you just persist with it and be very patient! Oh and shame on Sony - I don't know what their current TVs are like but these 2015 based units feel like a substandard prototype that somehow got released passed their quality department!

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Год назад +3

      In my experience, the fault that occurs is not usually a software based fault. It is a hardware fault on the EMMC chip which holds the software and thus causes symptoms that appear to be software based.
      On emmc or SSD chips will start developing bad blocks overtime as they age and go past their expected read write life cycles. It is possible that the new software is different in a way that it is either not using the blocks which have failed or has none critical code occupying those blocks making it seemed fixed.
      If you are scared of having your mainboard fixed because the fault could come back, you should be terrified of this fix.
      With that being said, please follow up with us on this because I am curious to know how long this will last.
      A proper repair would be to have a new emmc installed as that will be a proper long term repair, or replace the mainboard with a new one.
      If you plan on buying a new set, just be aware new sets have the same faults repair or replace, you are expected to get the same life out of both options in my experience.

      @@NicksTVRepair Thanks for your response, all understood and I don't disagree with you. I have a lot of experience with PCs so I totally get the bad blocks / sectors issues. For that reason I've decided to not customise my settings anymore than necessary just to try and avoid any further data writing. I still feel that this could be a software fault alone as using PCs for comparison it obviously doesn't take much to completely brick a PC which can often be fixed with a complete wipe & reinstall of Windows or simple bios flash / reset. Plus I also know how slow the CPU is on this TV and gets behind on processing very easily & frequently, which combined with the fact that I eventually got to the system software menu led me to believe the likelihood that the hardware was ok and the software was either corrupt or just messed up enough to cause a system-perceived false process failure state / data hanging resulting in boot looping. On day 2 now and my TV started just fine and was very responsive! I know it could die anytime, and yes also getting a new TV doesn't mean that'll be problem-free, but I also like to get the most life reasonably possible out of anything and begrudge buying a replacement until I know it's not worth using anymore or was just unfixable. That said, based on how the TV is working right now it seems that it has a new lease of life so I'll take that. I'll definitely update here if / when anything changes.

      Is it still working?

    • @LargeStyle
      @LargeStyle 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@seesikopterYes. Only problem I've had since I reflashed firmware was my PC's GPU wasn't always able to handshake with the TV properly causing it to not identify what specific set it was & only offered 1080p instead of 4K, but that could easily have been due to a DP to HDMI adapter I was using. Changed connection to USB C to HDMI and it recognises TV as Sony 4K and everything has been working flawlessly since. (Re) flashing firmware is therefore worth a try if boot-looping in case of software corruption, and it's a free step to take (aside from a USB stick). Just takes persistence & patience, but that paid off for me in the end and I'm so glad I restored it instead of giving up.

    Just an FYI make sure the repair center you take it to does this type of work. I took in my xbr 49x800e to a local repair shop that claims they do software reflash but they will only try to perform a software update via usb. I explained to them this will not work since the beginning but they claimed they knew what they were doing.

    • @NicksTVRepair

      Sometimes it's a software fault and a re-flash can work, but a lot of the time I have found that the eMMC itself has a hardware fault and thus has to be replaced. The other risk with fixing it with just a reflash of the same eMMC is that it can be a temp fix and 1 week or 3 months later the fault comes right back and the eMMC has to be replaced which means with a reflash a lot of the time is temporary. So if you are paying someone to only fix it for a few weeks or a few months, you are wasting money.

    OK great video, but I have a Xbr-55x900E with the same cycling issues on booting up to the android , then shutting off. I disassembled TV to the backlights
    and then turned on , and noticed 3 leds on 1 strip did not light up in the boot process. So I am wondering if this is another repair issue, other than the chip repair, or does the chip solve this problem too.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Месяц назад

      Bootloop fault = mainboard failure.
      The unit is probably boot looping before your TV can fully illuminate and trigger the 4 or 6 blink code.
      This means you have 2 failures. Fix the LED failure first because that's the tougher one and riskier one. Then if you want to send in your mainboard for repair we can take care of that issue for you but it would make more sense to resolve the backllight failure first.

      I can't know for sure, it's possible your EMMC needs to be replaced but it's possible your CPU is bad and needs to be replaced. Most likely the EMMC but can't know for sure.
      I don't think anyone sells the chip prepgrogrammed for your TV specifically.

    Is there any reason why on future TVs that the eMMC chip couldn't be converted into a form that was easily user/field technician replaceable? As I recall, there was a time when MMC (Multi-Media Card) chips were actually used as an easily ejectable memory card for storage on portable devices. Why couldn't this chip just be accessible as a card from the side of the TV where the end user or a field tech could simply just eject it and replace it with a new one? It sure seems like that would save a lot of time, energy and effort when it comes to resolving problems like this.

      Hello,
      Without knowing the full model number of your TV, I don't really know which set you have and won't be able to help you as much.
      But it sounds like you have a mainboard fault due to the EMMC chip just like we do in this video.
      You could try downloading a software update directly from sony onto a flashdrive and force update the TV. If this doesn't work however it means you have a more severe hardware fault meaning your EMMC chip needs to be replaced.

    Where can the chip be purchased or what is the exact chip model that needs to be installed?

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hello Collins0126
      The part number of the chip is printed on the chip itself. But if you buy the chip, it will be blank. Meaning it won't be programmed with the operating system software you need to operate the TV. Once installed on the board and the board is in your TV, it will act completely dead. In order for it to work, you will need to program it using a specialized eMMC programmer. They cost between $300-$1,500 depending on the kind you get.
      We do not sell the chips preprogrammed, and we do not recommend you purchase a preprogrammed chip and attempt to install it yourself. The replacement process requires advanced tools and skills to be properly installed. If you attempt the repair yourself it is highly likely you will damage the board beyond repair.
      This is why we offer an affordable flat-rate repair service and will perform this repair for you with an almost 100% success rate.
      If you have any additional questions, do not hesitate to reach out.
      Thank you

I never had this issue happen before, not sure if switching providers had anything to do with it or is there an issue with my TV. Have you ever heard of this? Can this be shut off? Thank you

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Год назад

      There is most likely a power saver mode that is on which completely turns your TV off 100% when not in use. Most likely that was no on prior. There should be in your settings an option for the TV to stay on and when powered "off", only the screen and backlight turn off but the TV stays in a partialy on mode. This way when you press the power button the next time, the set turns on very quickly.
      Every version of the sony software is different, depending on what version software you are on, the navigation to that setting may be different.

      A red flashing light is actually very different. And the very specific amount of times the light flashes will completely change what is wrong with the TV and what needs to be done. A 7 or 8 blink code = mainboard, a 4 or 6 blin code = LED strip repair.

      I can't give you a quote without really knowing what is wrong with the set. I believe you may have a bad mainboard but I would suggest performing a software update and factory reset first as that may be all you need to do.
      Your TV is not the same as the one I work on in this video, so the back cover removal process would be very different.

      We are showing you how you can fix it yourself so that you don't have to pay a bunch of money as you are suggesting. We give you the information you need to diagnose the unit, and identify the defective part. Now you know you can either purchase a replacement mainboard, and install it to fix your TV, or send your defective one to our repairshop and we can do the component level repair for you. We send it back and you install it back into your TV. This way you can get your TV back up and running for a fraction of the price of a new one and or cheaper than if you had someone else do the diagnostics and part replacement for you.

      Most often the 4 blinks are LED backlight failure. Sometimes it's the LED driver board that fails. Since the driver circuit board is much cheaper and easier to replace I would recommend trying that first. If that doesn't work then it would suggest you need to replace your LED backlight.

      You may have a panel fault. This is an odd symptom that I am not familiar with. I would recommend you reach out to a local TV shop to have them take a look at it. This one may need eyes directly on the set.

    Hi, what happen when you put a new emmc chip ? Is it just the app like netflix and youtube that doesnt work ? the rest is just the same ? you can still read a video from a usb key plugged on the tv ? thank you !

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Год назад +1

      You can still use any app you want, you just have to do it from a different device plugged into the TV like a firestick, roku, apple TV, your cable box has apps as well you can access.
      The native apps however and it's not all of them but a few won't work due to encryption. You can still play a video from a USB, you can still use all of your HDMI ports, you can still use your antenna, you can still access apps but you have to do it using an external device which most likely will navigate faster, and smoother than the built in app anyways.

But if you are asking about the process to send it in so we can perform the repairs for you, then I would have you go to the video description, and click on the repair service link which will lead you to our website's flat rate service. I have a Sony XBR-77-A80J have similar issue shows upto sony logo and then Shuts off and tries to boot up again and shuts off... 4 blinking red lights. sometimes It will get pass the sony logo and get into Andriod or even menu but eventually it will shut off with a Clicking sound and 4 blinking red lights. cycle repeats. can it be the Mainboard EEMC or power supply >?

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  6 месяцев назад

      Unfortunately, 4 blinks is going to typically be the backlight. Since this is an OLED model the backlight is embedded into the screen and can not be replaced.
      There is a tiny little chance it's a power supply or LED driver board fault but in my experience most often it's a panel failure. (panel = screen/LED backlight)

      Unfortunately, you can't do the BL_ERR bypass with this one, well you can but it won't work. However, I am responding to you again because I just had this exact model come into our shop also with a 4-blink code. My tech deemed it a bad panel, but I may be calling the customer back soon as I am taking a closer look at it right now and there is a chance it could be a power supply fault. I am still working on it and testing further. The issue is that OLED models are harder to diagnose and test since the LEDs are embedded into the screen.
      Do you still have this TV? I might be able to help you fix it but will need another day or two to get more info on it.
