WOW! Swoosie Kurtz! Who woulda guessed
Swoosie's dad the Air Force pilot not only represented the USA in two Olympics he also was a medalist.
The panel always seem so knowledgeable on every subject and ask good questions.
Our 6th grade class in Miami took a field trip to the Serpentarium, and Mr. Haast (correct spelling) gave me a snakeskin! My mother said "get that nasty thing out of my house!" Bill Haast died recently; he was 100 years old.
retrorex What fascinating information! Do you think his immunity to snake venom strengthened him in other ways & contributed to his longevity? Such a fascinating man, thanks for adding interest to this RUclips post.
I too went on school field trips to the Serpentarium. It was right near the Sweden House smorgasbord. It was Dixie and about 141st Street, right near where the Falls is today
The young lady became an actress That's Swoosie Kurtz , she played Molly's mom on " Mike & Molly!" (lol)
Wow, a young Swoosie Kurttz! She looks so much like her dad, I had it right away.
Sure you did
Right
Who would go on to be a very talented actress,
It was an all-or-nothing night for the panel. Frank Kurtz seemed like a shy quiet man. Sometimes heroes are that exact type and not the blustery blowhards. Bill Haast was on many television shows back in the day. Kitty look terrified from the moment the 3 men walked down the stairs and put their baskets on that table. Thanks for the vvideo.
I knew the right man in Game #1 because father and daughter looked so alike. No other reason.
I'm from Miami, and I met Bill Haas many times on school field trips to the Serpentarium. A truly fascinating place & one that saved hundreds if not thousands of people's lives, due to the milking of the snakes. The Serpentarium had a tragic end though after a child on a school field trip fell into the alligator pit and was eaten alive, in front of all the other children. Was horrifying. The state of Florida then ordered it closed.
Wow what a story Kevin, one can only hope the child was knocked out from falling in. 💖✌
PS this is the first episode when they show contestants and panelist chatting at the end of the program. ✌
LOVE Swoozie Kurtz!
So funny back then they called the snakes poisonous. None were poisonous but all of them were venomous.
'That must be actress Swoosie Kurtz's father, I remember reading that she was named after a fighter plane or the noise it made, something like that.
Gee, ya think ??
Good guess, Sherlock
@@joeambrose3260 I see you're still an assfk.
15:40 Looked like Kitty was ready to run!
I don't blame her!
I was stunned that a TV network would allow a live cobra (that could potentially get away were there to be an accident) in a studio with hundreds of people. I really thought one of those "snakes" that pops out of a can of peanut brittle would be in one of those baskets.
I was born & raised here in Miami, FL, and I knew it was #3 as soon as I saw his size. I met Bill Haas twice, on school field trips to the Serpentarium. It wasn't exactly in Miami, but in Pinecrest, FL on South Dixie Hwy (better known as US 1, or Useless 1 LOL locally) and about SW 144th Street.
Yeah, Kevin, we had a field trip there too, in 1966. 15 boys and 12 girls in my class--all the girls wanted to go to the Parrot Jungle, but were out-voted, of course. BTW, I thought the Serpentarium was located in Perrine.
retrorex
Maybe it was I remember it was just a few storefronts down from the Sweden House Smøgasbørd & right next to Miami Carpets if I recall correctly.
Yes, my girlfriend at the time used to work at the McDonald's that was next door to the Serpentarium.
I would like to point out that curare is a poison derived from a plant. So even the real snake collector would be unfamiliar with the poison.
Figured Swoosie Kurtz must have been already famous if she appeared on the show but at that time her only screen appearance seems to have been an episode of the Donna Reed Show I can't seem to find anything else she might have done.
Sisters, a weekly tv drama n th 90’s Was a big success
@@gingerharris8948 That was about 3 decades later. She has two Tony Awards.
I still can't over how young Swoozie is in their
Cobra and Salem both deadly!
Swoosie Kurtz - Great actress!
I figured there was a snake in one of the baskets and guessed the correct one, on the basis the snake would be kept furthest away from the panelists, and I was right on that basis.
There are no "poisonous" snakes..... Only "venomous" ones.
What a jackass thing to say.
A carton of Salem 3's to you for being on the show. How
kind to add one more nail to their coffins. Times have
certainly changed -- and in this respect, for the good.
Amen to that!!
What d'ya mean, in this respect, for the good. It's WAAAAY worse today than it was back then
@@kristabrewer9363 My comment, "... in this respect..." refers to the significant reduction in tobacco usage/addiction. In 1962 cigarettes/cigars were advertised in the multi-media and the % of smokers in North America was at least 65% of men and about 45% of women. It was even higher in Europe. Today the good news is fewer than 20% of North American adults smoke tobacco. This reduction is largely responsible for the decrease in new lung cancer and COPD cases. WAAAAY better!
They probably went home pissed because none of them was a smoker.
Cigarettes helped to kill most of my family! It is so disgusting to know that there were so many lies from Big Tobacco for so many years...
Followed by the episode of I'VE GOT A SECRET that had Neil Armstrong's parents on (he had been announced as one of the new astronaut candidates that very day), and Garry told them " Wouldn't it be something if your son walked on the moon?"
Peggy really walked into it when she asked how did he milk his snake....
Is this Swoosie Kurtz's first appearance on TV before she became an actress?
Swoosie Kurtz played on Desperate Housewives. Plus she was on an episode of Touched by an Angel, and probably other shows!
Hi there, Swoosie.
In game one I voted for #3 because of the way he looked at the daughter while being introduced. In game two I voted for #2 because he seemed to be the best informed. In game three I voted for #3 because of the way she nodded in the introduction when the story of her being beaten was discussed. I was wrong in all three games, yet when I was a kid I had a success rate of about 80%. Hmmmmmm.
Hi William, it would be fun to start at the beginning back in 1956 and play the games with one or more people to see how they did. I've been meaning to keep scores just to see how psychic I am. Lol.. But it is fun to try to read body language, or get a sense. Good luck with the games✌
If you watch it again, you will notice #2 is the only one who watched his daughter walk off stage.
@@tebelshaw9486 Oh yeah... Good catch!
(PS) Check out the look on Kitty's face at 15:23
@@williamanthony9090Priceless! I guessed him right as well, because his basket was slightly larger, and he held it with more confidence. I fund I'm right more often if I pick a contestant before they ever sit down. 😮
Man #2 in Game #1
Man #3 in Game #2
Lady #1 in Game #3
Was Tom Poston playing Albert or Mr. McAfee?
Does Peggy have a wig on !!!!????
Was Tom Poston wearing eyebrow pencil? He looked different.
I've never seen Tom in such a bad mood! He's so unlike himself in this episode! :"(
I noticed that too, Tom was pissed. I think as a former flyer maybe he thought Kurtz gave a bogus answer to get them off the trail.
+jethro1963 That makes SO much sense! I think you're right! Poor Tom!
If he was the real one, he COULDN'T give a bogus answer
He had recently went through a divorce and had a child also, who knows it's called LIFE!!
Helmet-hair.
Vestal Goodman hair
natives restless in the Congo.
this show gave me lung cancer
Peggy plays the skin flute.
The only way you know that is because you taught her.
Many of us do...
Fat Peggy , Kitty Car-Lyle he says.
