Top video, Float fishing is the basics, the way i learned as a kid 30yrs ago!!! Still the most exciting way to fish! Nice one TA, keep em coming.......
Hi Graeme, a method you might want to consider when there is a bit of a breeze is the lift method. I use it fairly regularly for catching all sorts of fish (more on that later) on windy pools as you get extremely sensitive indication and don't get dragged around by the wind. I start with a rubber float stop (or a sliding stop knot in deep water) threaded onto the main line, next comes a very light 1-2g bodied waggler followed by another float stop (the float is fished sliding, the second stop is just to prevent casting tangles), I then attach my hooklength to the main line with a 4 turn water knot making sure to leave the tag ends on the knot for the time being, the hooklength wants to end up about 4" long if fishing over a hard bottom and up to 6" if silty. I apply one or two swan shot (SSG) to the tag ends of the hooklength and then trim off the excess, you can put them on the main line if you want I just prefer not to damage the line, the important thing is to have enough weight to bury the float completely. You then cast out and keep sliding that top stopper up or down until the float is cocked (standard plumbing-up), I tend to set it so the float is about an inch higher in the water at rest so you can tighten down to adjust sensitivity or slacken off to counter wind tow. When you get a bite the anchoring shot will be lifted off the bottom and you'll get the most exaggerated lift bite you're ever likely to see, the float will shoot up like a submarine periscope and lay over on its side. So far this year that method has accounted for two roach over the 2lb mark (2lb 4oz biggest), a 2lb 10oz crucian, a 6lb 8oz tench, an 8lb bream and a 2lb perch for myself and they haven't been from fancy waters that are renowned for their specimens either. I really do whole heatedly recommend the method and hope it works out as well for you as it has for me. (if I've not explained it well enough then let me know and I'll send you a picture or something) All the best
The brackets are entirely necessary otherwise I would have to throw in a whole bunch of extra sentences in order to reach the same level of content. In review I could probably drop one of the bracketed sections but being that it is an instructional post rather than a story I feel that they do not detract from the content, a better solution may have been breaking it up into numbered steps but that ends up with a massively long post which is hard to read on mobile devices
Wow.. Everything from the fish to the bait and even the lake setup is so different from my area here in the States... We fish for big Bass and anything else we catch is by accident only..Most anglers use bass boats here or stay home...
Hi TA FISHING!! Last Sunday I was fishing in the margin on the pole about 2ft from my peg on double red maggot and to my surprise I caught a three pound barbel that fought like a shark!!😂😂😂keep up the awesome work I absolutely love your videos!!! (Edit) it was on the float aswell!!
its in ya hat, its in ya hat!!! lol Sorry Graeme. Great video and plenty tips to get started, never fished for silverfish and the wife s just bought me a beginner kit and keen to get started.
You must fish a lot, with all those maggots! I once took a small break from fishing and forgot all about my maggots, and they'd all turned to flies. Quite a surprise! haha
Ha ha watching a pole pulled in by a Carp, well blow me down, my son when he was 6 years old had his little orange rod pulled in by a crucian carp, got it back with my rod, ha ha happy days.
I love float fishing and you did it proud on this video I tend to fish using the lift method, little shimano 1000 reel with 6lb mono and a 10 ft omni rod simple and effective
Nice one Greame. The Norfolk Broads are supposed to be full of carp but never heard of anyone catching them. Perhaps we need some Totally Awesome expertise up here.
Yet another great video next fishing trip i will try the float, only the ponds i use are over 80ft deep even the margins drop off just a few feet out down to 12ft but a beutiful place to fish.
I got fed up with float fishing back in about 2008, so I took up mobile UL lure fishing, even if I don't catch anything It's great exercise all the same
Yet another great video. Just one thing though (oh-oh I hear you say). Out of all your video's regarding floats, you haven't mentioned or used a float ledger set-up, not that I've noticed anyway,I'm talking about the Polaris and/or Loc-Slide floats. Do you have any plans together with your young learner of a son to make a video on these?...or perhaps do a challenge with one using a 'normal' float and the other using float ledgering tactics?
If your trying for smaller pike I would use lures and spinners if you are going for larger pike I would use bait like a section of mackerel or a frozen roach other fish baits work also remember a wire trace
I really enjoy watching your video. Hemp seeds are not available is our country. What are its alternatives? Can we hook hemp seed for float fishing rather than use it only as ground bait?
I think you can buy a selection of plastic imitation baits for putting on the hook. I am sure someone has made a Hempseed version.Check your local tackle shop.Or look online.
shamim yes definitely needed as it's getting to that time when we're all going on holiday and can't help sneaking a little rod in the suitcase after the wife's all packed
Light rod anything from 0.5-15g/20g is still light enough to enjoy good sport. I recommend baiting fish up close in with bread, it will help to attract numbers of fish and increase the chance of you catching one (plus bread is cheap). Small hooks too. Hope you catch - Mike
Danijela Ivezić in the few days I've been here I've only caught 1 fish and lost another 2 close in to shore. For smaller fish I used bread but the 1 time I used limpets (the shells on the rocks) I caught a nice bream, unfortunately it fell off close in after an epic battle. Note bream have really boney mouths so you need to strike hard if your fishing with bigger hooks and limpets
Like the way you use background music sensibly AND the right tempo👍 I can't stand constant bang bong boost boosh music messing up my ear drums like far too many fishing videos have today. A total switch off for me 😈
As a novice angler these videos are just amazing - no bullshit, just great facts and tips!
Top video, Float fishing is the basics, the way i learned as a kid 30yrs ago!!! Still the most exciting way to fish! Nice one TA, keep em coming.......
Nice one Graeme. Enjoyed the laid back, generalised, no mission type video. And those crucian were great fish.
I either float or ledger when I fish so I'm loving these videos. Can't wait to go fishing since school has ended.

nice post, but I stopped to read it after couple of sentences. you use () way too much and its hard to read and follow the flow of the story

You must fish a lot, with all those maggots! I once took a small break from fishing and forgot all about my maggots, and they'd all turned to flies. Quite a surprise! haha

Nice one Greame. The Norfolk Broads are supposed to be full of carp but never heard of anyone catching them. Perhaps we need some Totally Awesome expertise up here.
I was on a farm pond last year and an old guy was fishing feeder and pole at the same time. That pole went in 4 times xD

Nice video! :))
how do you cast out so far on light floats and wieghts?
Use very thin and light line. Preferably 4 or 5lb
HI GREAME COULD YOU MQKE A DETAILED VIDEO ON HOW TO COOK AND MAKE HEMP WITH DIFERENT FLAVORS AND SO ON THANKYOU
No idea why you've got 20+ dislikes at the time of making this comment, some sour people out there maybe? Your video's are awesome!
Who knows ? You can't please everyone.
Super Fishing.
What would be the best way to catch pike
rod and reel
If your trying for smaller pike I would use lures and spinners if you are going for larger pike I would use bait like a section of mackerel or a frozen roach other fish baits work also remember a wire trace
Have you been sea fishing recently, been doing some good old SRF
Can you recommend a net size opening for landing big 15 - 20 lb carp?
I really enjoy watching your video. Hemp seeds are not available is our country. What are its alternatives? Can we hook hemp seed for float fishing rather than use it only as ground bait?
I think you can buy a selection of plastic imitation baits for putting on the hook. I am sure someone has made a Hempseed version.Check your local tackle shop.Or look online.
Thanks Sir for the reply
