Tolling has become a big part in Mario Maker. There are a lot of troll levels out there of which some are good, but most of them are hot garbage. The biggest Mario Maker youtubers have also made and played a lot of them.

I would use the reverse troll to instead make a fake leap of faith level where you enter a pipe with two unreachable pipes in the preview map to make it feel like you avoided losing a life thanks to trolling.

You get the second checkpoint, later you go into a door and this door let you collect the FIRST checkpoint again (reusable cp system) :)

What ‘bout POW-blocks??
Make a Clown Car section, and at the very top, put a spike there. So you waste your time killing big Bowser, get a key, go into a locked door, and getting softlocked. The _real_ solution is going over the level and off screen, the flag/goal post/card.
The hidde block trap, but the far left block is free. And then you hide a one way door behind two normal doors so you still can't get out. Maybe there is some way to modify it.

Put a checkpoint inside walls and when Mario dies, it will make Mario respawn into a spike pit and make Mario fall into spikes
How do you beat it tho?
I see a LOT of trolls here are from that level Carl made haha, good job tho
I hate the death.
-Fake dev exit where when you go high enough, a thwomp crushes you.
-A vine where the same thing happens with a thwomp.
-An automatic level that kills you at the last second.
How bout u have to run across pihrrana plants (put one block then pihrrana plants then one block and so on) then add two at the end so he turns into small Mario but u have to be big to get to the next part

billons of coins and then a thowp triggers the blocks (theres blocks on the bottom so you can collocet then it gets trigged by p switch witch means the bottom blocks dissaper and boom troll death)

How about mushroom bait: If you eat the mushroom you cant proceed and time out.
2 ways you cant enter with mushroom:
-A pipe going sideways and a conveyor belt behind the pipe at the upper blocks. (If you put the conveyor beld at the bottom you can only enter the pipe if youre big: ->another troll?)
-Fall down a one block wide way. At the bottom the way to the left/right ist one blck high so you cant enter it. The way where you came from can be blocked with one-ways or hidden blocks.
I hope these ideas helped an you understood my english (because I'm from germany). If you have any questions about the setting or whatever just ask and I'll do my best to give you a better describtion.
