I'm a snare drummer in a really small school (we have 1 quad and 2 snares small) so seeing this and the amount of sync you guys have just blows my mind considering when me and the other snare are I'm sync it's the coolest feeling
Jackson B. Preference of the director, at my school we do Cymbals ( 2 rows ), Snares, Tenors, Basses. Depending on line size we will do an additional snare row and split up tenors and Basses into a 5 dice set per section.
This video makes me want to go to Purdue. The cadence is fire. My drumline has 7 cadences already but me and one ofthe other snares love this so much that weve been trying to learn this. And dont get me started kn the chants bc were already talking bout beefy diddles. We actually changed one of our cadences to fit in the part where the snares swing there sticks left and right across the rim. Keep up the great work.
Its called the BBD (big bass drum) lol. Purdue practically worships it. lol Its literally an ancient artifact of the history of the all american marching band.
Ro F the reason for “rushing” is because sound take long to travel. So by the time you HEAR the band, it’s late. So they’re actually playing at the same time. It’s just sound travels slowly
I hope that my chops are good enough to make the snare line when I go back to school because playing cadences on snare will make me 10 times a better percussionist than I was back in High school.
That cadence is called 'PTP'. It was written as the 2014 drumline audition piece. If you're interested, you can find the music at www.purduedrumline.com!
i wish i could do drumline :( ive always wanted to play snare but you have to audition for drumline and ive never learned how to play sheet music or anything :(
All of our cadences are original to Purdue. The first one - Funcoast - has been here for the longest. Every year, the student leaders write a new cadence that we use for the audition piece for the next year's drumline.
maddie gup you should try still. Someone in my Drumline this year didn't know anything about music and was able to march in contests as a bass Drum and we won best percussion at some contests. You may surprise yourself with how good you are
Alex we have to do a year of pit or cymbals and I don't know which I want to do but I think I'm going to do percussion as a class I just don't know what I'll do
Don't know how many times I've watched this snarecam. Purdue drumlines are awesome. I don't know how you memorize so many cadences. It's amazing. And all these are Purdue cadences? Are they copyrighted? I really don't know what I'm talking about. I only played one thing and that was organ... well, 2, piano. And I couldn't march with either one. I was so sheltered. You guys rock!!! Thanks.
Why I want to go to Purdue University, well this and the fact my Mom’s side of the Family are all Boilermakers and I would live at my grandparents house who live right out side of the campus. One question could you fit a marching glockenspiel
That cadence is called "Funcoast". It originated as two warmups (Funky Fives and Suncoast), and is now combined into one cadence that we use to kick off all of our parades.
Goten HypeFlex. Oh they have way more than snares. As of 2019 they have Two drumlines with 6 tenors, 10 snares and 8 bass drums each with 10 or so cymbals
It’s not all about the difficulty of a cadence, it’s about how well it’s preformed. All of the hits these guys did were in time and together and that’s what makes it sound good. No point in having a tough cadence if it doesn’t sound good all together. And the more drummers the harder it is to all hit at the same time, so with this amount of players it would be tougher to play than with the amount of people in a high school drumline.
+KawaiiDrumeo You can find all the music for our cadences and warmups on our website! Here's a link to get you started: www.purduedrumline.com/drumline-music.html
I think I watched the whole thing just because of the satisfaction it gave me, the pure, perfect timing of each hit was just the best.
"1ners, 2ers, 3ers, 4ers, 5ers, 6ers, 7ers, 8ers, 9ers, 10ERS (tenors)!!!" I would've never thought of that. That was sick. XD
PaulDuhTaco I don't think much people get it
McDuckYT _ I do

"theres no I in team but theres a I in america and theres 2 I's in winning "
Damn this band is on drugs😂😂😂
what band isn't on drugs😂
I can't imagine how great it is to be in a drumline like this; it's big, everyone seems happy, and is truly enjoying the motions. Maybe one day...
I'm a snare drummer in a really small school (we have 1 quad and 2 snares small) so seeing this and the amount of sync you guys have just blows my mind considering when me and the other snare are I'm sync it's the coolest feeling
we have a lot of snare like 10 snares A and T rock and are rad we are in ATL
Gav Nich my school has 1 quad, 2 snares, and a drum set.We use the drum set mostly.
Dude same my school has one tenor and one snare and 2 bass drums it’s rough
My school doesn’t even have a snare anymore :c The snare graduated so now we have like less than 15 people- colorguard, band, and percussion combined
Gav Nich we have 4 snares 5 basses and 2 tenors
That fucking tenors pun at the begining bainosbisbi
Lol at 3:25 "People Order Our Patties" absolute Gold.
who's bright idea was it to put tenors in front of snares?
Abenzz probably an engineers..
Thats how my school is too
Because tenors are better 🤷♀️
I’m a snare and my school always does snare-line, then tenors and bases
Jackson B. Preference of the director, at my school we do Cymbals ( 2 rows ), Snares, Tenors, Basses. Depending on line size we will do an additional snare row and split up tenors and Basses into a 5 dice set per section.

Its called the BBD (big bass drum) lol. Purdue practically worships it. lol Its literally an ancient artifact of the history of the all american marching band.
Evan Baker it's my daddy
I came here cause I'm in Marching band and I love dancing to the cadences
This video was uploaded on my birthday. 😀
At 7:45 are they okay
is it just me or is there almost a constant feeling of rushing here?
Ro F dont know if this is the correct answer but the rest of the band is in front of them
Ro F the reason for “rushing” is because sound take long to travel. So by the time you HEAR the band, it’s late. So they’re actually playing at the same time. It’s just sound travels slowly
9:44 that beat was nice
"WHAT DAY IS IT"
"GAME TIME"
Y'all keep it up cause you guys are Amazing
I hope that my chops are good enough to make the snare line when I go back to school because playing cadences on snare will make me 10 times a better percussionist than I was back in High school.

All of our cadences are original to Purdue. The first one - Funcoast - has been here for the longest. Every year, the student leaders write a new cadence that we use for the audition piece for the next year's drumline.
check your pants 😂
I want to be in my schools drumline but I don't know about notes or anything
maddie gup you should try still. Someone in my Drumline this year didn't know anything about music and was able to march in contests as a bass Drum and we won best percussion at some contests. You may surprise yourself with how good you are
Alex we have to do a year of pit or cymbals and I don't know which I want to do but I think I'm going to do percussion as a class I just don't know what I'll do
maddie gup do cymbals I did them and never had as much fun
Do it! When I first entered drumline, I didn't know anything about it. A few months later I became bass. :)
maddie gup try it. i went into drumline not knowing a thing. got on bass 2 and getting moved up to snare my sophomore year.
Don't know how many times I've watched this snarecam. Purdue drumlines are awesome. I don't know how you memorize so many cadences. It's amazing. And all these are Purdue cadences? The sonic boom in the background 😭
Why I want to go to Purdue University, well this and the fact my Mom’s side of the Family are all Boilermakers and I would live at my grandparents house who live right out side of the campus. One question could you fit a marching glockenspiel
I realize the cadence. It's called SunCoast.
the tenors chant was awesome xD
Time stamp??
That second whistle is my halt call

There are only 60 seconds in a minute.
robbie bushey 😂😂 lol
robbie bushey y
Hammer down!! Who has the worst backache? Quads, snares or bass?
Judith Meyer shares for sure
As a snare player, I gotta say tenors. Our tenors were way heavier than the snares.
Now that... that's some skill, m8.
"Elementary my dear."
My school has the same tap off
What's the name of that cadence @3:01....and what's it's origin????#curious
That cadence is called "Funcoast". It originated as two warmups (Funky Fives and Suncoast), and is now combined into one cadence that we use to kick off all of our parades.
is that funky 5s for percussion feature?
+LoveChris Lai Yes it is! We play a combination of Funky Fives and a cadence/warmup we call Suncoast to start every parade and after every song!

EnderHeroD danl The cadence is called Fun-Coast, a combination of Funky Fives & Sun Coast (though that last part was not really relevant)
what was that low brass song at the beginning?
Ik this is kinda late but its called Sonic Boom
What type of percussion group only plays snares...?
Goten HypeFlex. Oh they have way more than snares. As of 2019 they have Two drumlines with 6 tenors, 10 snares and 8 bass drums each with 10 or so cymbals
what is the name of the first cadence, please.
Gilberto Del Angel Fun Coast
Woooo que buenos son 1 ners
Why are y'all using Ralph's?
BlacKOuTBlizzard everyone uses them
My high school drumline had tougher cadences than this. I'm surprised college level players didn't try to make it tougher. Oh well...
It’s not all about the difficulty of a cadence, it’s about how well it’s preformed. All of the hits these guys did were in time and together and that’s what makes it sound good. No point in having a tough cadence if it doesn’t sound good all together. Why in hell did they take the resonance out of snare drums? It sounds like they're playing on a block of wood. Zero sound quality.

Share cam drummers right hand is heavy and your band is full of some serious introverts. Not the school for me... heading to UT. Real musicians there.
