Comparatively and competitively, most years, Hebron and Flower Mound are neck and neck with each other. Fun things to know about the two groups you watched: They're next door neighbors essentially. They're in the same school district and they know each other pretty well. They definitely have their divergent performance and show approach that have been divergent from each other for a solid decade now, and they are often compared to each other because of that. Flower Mound ended up winning the BOASA contest and Hebron ended up winning state a few days later, they both had very successful years this year!
If Lewisville ISD (Marcus,Hebron and Flower mound) had an all high school summer audition only program they could easily be in the top world class DCI conversations! Lewisville ISD is the Texas epoch of music education!
😭 bro I thought it was on purpose when I first saw it to show contrast between the two soloist. One guy is giant and the other looks super tiny compared to him. Both soloist had awesome tone though. Was better than what I could ever do.
Dang, I enjoyed Flower Mounds program way more than Hebron this year. There was much more going on visually rather than just forced arches and pliés. I also though the music program was way more engaging. They were exploring colors more than creating big, loud moments. What they played sounded more like a direct transcription of a piece for wind ensemble, which I think is way more ambitious. But that’s just me. It just checked all the right boxes for me.
The UIL puts out the judges placements for the state contests every year on their website. its just where each judge put each group in terms of placement, but it might give you some idea about how they were feeling for each run. UIL-Music-Marching and you can eventually find a results button and the breakdowns are there.
You can hear the FloMo band directors and their visual designer talk about the idea behind their show here, it's super interesting. ruclips.net/video/XmFJjf0YZjI/видео.html
We only got 8th at UIL but itd be awesome to see you react to Pearland HS "Maximus" (very sparticus feeling) We were 7th at grand nationals last year as well.
@@Rheece on preliminary. But on finals the percussion judge is kinda rigged it by judging off of past performances and not active ones (9/20 points were percussion) so it was 20 to 20 and Hebron had 3 1s vs Vandys single 1.
We seriously need you to react to the 2024 shows of Castle HS in Indiana, Tarpon Springs from Florida, and Broken Arrow from Oklahoma at finals of Grand Nationals
Ik someone else already commented this, but you should totally react to Vandegrift 2024! Great great show and prob my favorite high school show ever(I also haven’t seen too many high school shows)
If you are going to react to another Hebron show watch Hebron 2022 as it is the hardest show ever marched on the field but only lost in finals with the hardest highschool licks I’ve ever heard
I have a list of shows for you to react. I hope this clears everyone’s opinions: Hebron 2022, 2023; Vandegrift 2024; Cedar Park 2024; Pearland 2023, 2024; Broken Arrow 2021, 2024; Marcus 2024; Vista Ridge 2022-2024; Rouse 2024; Avon (in general); Carmel (in general); Tarpon Springs (in general). Hope this helps! Comment if I missed anything! Lol, it’s a lot. Try your best with these reviews!
Your reaction vids are spot on and enjoyable! Others have already mentioned. But please do vids of Tarpon Springs, Broken Arrow, and Vista Ridge 2024 shows PLEASE and Thank you!
You really should watch the top three from Grand nationals, Avon (1), Carmel (2), and Broken Arrow (3). Usually San Antonio is more competitive overall, but in the 1-3 range of each competition, Grand Nationals is generally more competitive.
I don't think so. San Antonio is always more competitive, especially when the big 6as don't go to grand nats. Like Cedar Park got 10th over here and then got 5th over there. It's a different game down here. Wish the Indiana schools would come down here but they don't...
@@theweirdweeb567it would also be cool if they moved the BOA Grand Nationals competition location from year to year and at some point it can be at the Alamodome so more Texas bands can participate!
@@theweirdweeb567 yeah I just hate how a powerful band state like Texas can’t send many fantastic schools to Indiana for Grand Nats due to travel expenses. Wish there was a way to mitigate that
@@theweirdweeb567 cedar park was not really even close to the top 3. I’m saying the top 3 and nats are comparable to about the top 5 at San Antonio, and usually I would argue the top spot at grand nationals would keep that spot even if every band from San Antonio attended. I do think Avon would beat Flower Mound
I think you should react to round rock 2024 I believe they had a very interesting show and it stood out a lot from the other bands that competed also did I mention they have scv 2018 music in the show
And Hebron and Flower Mound are in the same school district..So you have to know how difficult the bench is in Texas with talent. In my opinion, because of that state UIL is a more prestigious win than BOA
if possible please try to react to every band in the san antonio super regional finals this year it was super competitive and all bands were outstanding 🙏🏾🙏🏾
please of you can react to this year's ceader park show they have a really good opener hit, or if you can react to el dorado hs mics were not the best when big stop it them so still a really good show. Both of these schools are 5a btw
I agree with you that Flower Mound’s visual package is over Hebron. That being said, the guard has been trained In equipment but not in movement. When they are doing leaps, the working leg is just flopping and there is no sense of turnout. The body in the band is pedestrian, yet trained. If they could clean the body underneath the equipment, they could be unstoppable. Their playing is amazing but here’s where i disagree AND agree with you. Musically, there is more meat on the bone from Hebron. But I did not hear the dirty brass that you did in the middle double/triple tonguing passage. I went back again and still did not hear what you did. I don’t believe anyone can touch Hebron’s music. They did get first places from all music judges. In percussion, well, no one can touch Marcus, which is the third band in that district. I don’t know why the three schools don’t get together and make their own DCI group! (Probably because they all are already in other corps.) Great reactions!! I don’t know where you live but we need to get you here for next year’s State Marching Contest!
UIL is a big mess as far as judging. Basically you first do a region performance and if your not awful, the 3 judges will give you a 1 rating and you’ll go to area. This is the only score you get, but you’ll get judges taped and all. Then the area contest will combine the schools from 2 or more regions. For example our region had 26 schools get a 1 at region. Then those 26 bands will perform at area and the top 10 schools will perform in finals that night. After that 5 will make it to the state contest. The judging here is 5 judges, 3 music and 2 visual. Each music judge gives a separate score for brass, woodwinds, percussion, ensemble and content. Then the visual judges give a separate score for individual, ensemble and content. Then each band is ordered based off of those scores and they’re added up and the lower the score the better. For example if the judges put one school in first place for all captions then they’ll have a total of 5 points. Then at state there are 7 judges. 4 music where there’s a separate judge for ensemble, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. There’s 2 visual judges, one for ensemble and one for individual. Then there’s one content and design judge. Each of these 7 are given equal weight and given an ordinal score for each, then added up to get your placements. The trick for Texas bands is trying to put together a show for BOA and UIL because they’re scored so differently. Also, this is for I believe for 6A and 5A schools as far as the judges for state.
4a this year tried the 7 judge system. It was alright from what my school felt like it. It sucks because if that one judge hates your show then good luck which is what happened to us. Judges didn't say anything about our cleanliness only about the show itself like how we had too much sax solo and the flow wasn't it. I hate how subjective it.
Again. It is a good show, but Texas lacks the visual and effect moments that the broken arrows, Avon, Carmel, and blue springs have. I would love to hear your opinion on those.
@ respectfully yes. The innovation of the Indiana schools is out of the world. Now, again, it’s marching band. It is the most subjective activity around. To each their own. This is just my opinion. Flower mound and vista ridge are very innovative too. It would be fun to watch for sure
@ yeah it’s very subjective i agree. but you should look into yayoi kusamas art style and what she’s known for. this show will make a lot more sense visually
