Excellent message Jarrad. I had the extreme pleasure of having a conversation with aN 80+ year old HAM that has been a HAM since he was a young man and he had the same message of 'get on the air' in voice, key, computer or whatever means you choose, but get on the air and communicate - pass messages and don't forget the roots of the hobby - helping whenever you can.... His words of wisdom made my day.... and then I came across your video - it must have been destiny.... Thank you.

Hello Jarrad , I am not a Ham, but just a simple Shortwave listener, and it is the Ham community that I think we all have to learn from. Good advice to your Ham fellows, and thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts 👍 Tam.

Excellent video. I would only add that there are many seasons and they can change. I'm interested if anybody can recommend a good book on the pioneers of electricity and radio beyond what wikipedia has to offer, thanks.

My personal view, is that RF - in the ham spectrum - must be involved somewhere along the line. I run a public Wires-X node on 439.150 C4FM for anyone in the outer SE Suburbs of Melbourne to use; it is node 14019, and sits idle in room 24343 with a few other VK nodes. If a System Fusion / Wires-X user would like a sked, please contact me via my QRZ.com email :)
I'd prefer if both parties were required to transmit using a Ham radio of some sort, but will concede for the sake of those otherwise unable to 'get on air', that so long as one party is receiving the transmission(s) via RF - and both parties hold licenses - then it should count. 73, Jarrad VK3BL :)

Same goes to Echolink. I am using it with my smartphone.. also using comercial wireless technology to communicate with other hams around the world. :)
Also we can use remote rig via Internet using netwrk services, such as WebSDR. So, through technology, Amateur Radio is getting simpler and diverse.
      THank you.

In short, Amateur Radio is a license to TX. among licensed Radio Amateur.
Goodham should be a good listener too, and also good in sharing knowledge.
    Thank you.

After a 42 year absence, I am AGAIN a licensed Ham Radio operator. W8RFC. I have been amazed by all of the changes to Amateur Radio since my absence. However, what has amazed me more is the hostility that has been expressed to me by many Hams when I mention any of the digital modes. I want to try it all. I do have a HF Base station. I have a HT that I am trying D-Star with. I am refining my Portable Field set-up. I am even relearning Morse Code! Great video. Thank you!
