Hi Jarrad, The HD-1 is a very good radio for the price. Please message me if you would like me to send you my codeplug setup for VK3. It would give you a good starting point. 73's!
Hello Adam would you be able to send me a code plug for VK3, I am a new ham into the hobby, haven’t got my licence yet but would love to monitor the vk3 DMR network. If you can help out it would be much appreciated. Thanks, James.
Glad to hear you are looking after your family. I’ve heard rumors that this radio does not expect 50-ohms impedance from the antenna (despite the specs) and thus limits the use of aftermarket antennas to avoid high SWR readings. Have you heard anything about this? How do we confirm/correct this?
Dear Stuart I will look into this for you. Most radios, especially handhelds don't expect a perfect match, but it usually shouldn't cause a big issue. We have plenty of antennas to try, and I had no issues with a huge Diamond X510! 73, Jarrad VK3BL :)
DMR is just another digital mode like fusion (try Fusion wide for a better sound) and DStar. It’s different to set up and most Chinese radios and the software is poor. So for this radio please look at adding multiple repeaters and talk groups then adding the DMR contacts to the radio. Second see if it can support roaming with multiple repeaters and any type of APRS functionality. Like broadcasting your position. Note most DMR radios don’t travel well so let us know how that works. Thank you!
Thanks Desmond :).I must complement Cherry Xiao from Retevis for her understanding behind the delay of the review. 73, Jarrad VK3BL All the best to you and yours!
Ive been waiting for you to review this radio, life dose have a habit of getting in the way but family always should come first. I want to buy a digital radio but not sure which to get, DMR, Dstar or Fusion. DMR is half the price so that alone might make my decision.
If you're prepared to 'put the effort in', DMR has way more to offer at a very good price and is open source. If you're interested in the HD1, check out this link Cherry just provided us with for a special: bit.ly/JarradHD1post-1 73, Jarrad VK3BL
