Best performance of Pull Me Under by LaBrie in a LONG FREAKING TIME! Hell, everyone his fantastic! Best recording of it since Live at the Marquee. Seriously though, LaBrie is on his A game!
An amazing performance by the whole band! Labrie nailed this one, I just think that he doesn't need that harsh tone that much. I love his clean singing! (:
For LaBrie to be singing PMU as the last song of the night, and hitting all those notes still (fairly well), I thought it was the opener! Can't really knock him can you?
James sounds amazing in this song and I don't say that based on the high notes. I say that based on his level of control and revigorated energy on stage. He's always been an amazing vocalist and shows his full potential in this one.
You mean, God forbid...he's not perfect; or sound just like the studio version. Please...have a try at doing vocals for DT, night after night...year after year, and let's rate YOUR ability
Hey Dream Theater! I have been a fan of you guys for years, and I really want to thank you. You have opened my eyes, made me see a widen panoramic picture. I love your progressive side, but I also love the pop side, Those soft and emotional moments in the music. As both a vocalist and a composer I feel honored to have had the chance to learn from you guys. So glad that you live in my lifetime and not in a thousand years from now! Keep rocking and please never let me down
@@Healpotxlook at other recordings of Labrie from this era. He was amazing. The Astonishing tour was really hard on him. His vocals have degraded a lot since but he was amazing till 2016.
@jaimeG4LV3Z yeah, live vocals usually get bad first but Wacken could be just a bad day, which happens. He sounded excellent for the last time in The Astonishing is what I was trying to say. Nothing he has done since or will in the future wow us anymore cuz he's just old. That was the last time.

I still have great respect for Mike Portnoy. The legacy that Mike Portnoy left in Dream Theater can never be replaced. Mike Portnoy left the band for reasons only know to him. Mike Mangini is in the drivers seat now so to speak. I wish Mike Portnoy all the best with his new band “Son’s of Apollo”.

We had such good rock and metal back then. You know you're an musical icon when you can still pull it off now, just as good as you first did. Not enough of this kind of rock/metal anymore. :
Didn't know about the band til I saw Meytal do a drum cover and loved the chords on the guitar and the keyboards intertwining and just got hooked, great song!
It is an experience you'll never forget...they are the best. I have known them personally since the Majesty days with Charlie Dominici...Their journey is quite extraordinary
Well I'm going to see Shattered Fortress this November with the added unbelievable pleasure of meeting Mike Portnoy himself, so I guess that's the best substitute imaginable, LOL!

Thank you, spot on Rudess comment. I love the guy, but in "The Spirit Carries On" auditions, Jordan writes off 2 drummers for adding their own flavor, and he changes Kevin's and Derek's parts constantly. Drives me crazy.
Mangini really brings a whole new element to Dream Theater. He really drives the music like Peart drives Rush, as opposed to just going through the motions.

You're saying it's impossible to have good kick drum sound if it's not triggered? Because that's nonsense. I too think it's the mixing. The whole band sounds mellow and too soft here.
The fact that LaBrie can sound this awesome despite rupturing his vocal cords at one time should earn him some fucking respect around here!
One of the most flawless vocalists out there, espeicially live. His voice is simply on another level.
he had a rough decade or so but he's definitely back. The astonishing album showcases his incredible abilities.
Steve Walsh of Kansas had his voice fail and it took some time to where he could sing again. Of course his was never quite the same.
This is heavily autotuned
Nowadays though.. jesus it's bad
I must not be the only one who listens to this song at least once a week, maybe twice and sometimes three times... It just never get old.
Listened to this song in 1996 and today (2024)
ATLEAST 3 Times per week. Love this live version.

I reckon in this context the harsher tone works, I personally think he should use it if he struggles in the “Watch the Sparrow” section
He did rupture his vocal cords and is amazing he sounds this good...
Some of Petrucci's solos make me cry. This is one of them.
It's amazing how Mangini plays so precise and true to the original recording. Impeccable!

They played it very percussively and angrily this time. I am glad to hear this song be played differently.
Jesus Christ labrie is better than he was all those years ago. He's got his growl back AND THAT VIBRATO COULD MOVE OCEANS.
