As a person born and brought up in Kolkata, after traveling most cities in the world, I feel Kolkata is a dying city. Its buildings are crumbling, no respect for the heritage buildings, no renovation of any kind that is of world class standard. Traffic is absolutely horrible and the city still feels you are actually in the 1950s or something. Half of the city has not developed anything. As a bengali, I never felt more disappointed when I saw Kolkata and comparing them against some of the better cities in the world.. Its pathetic. Kolkata has an amazing collection of heritage buildings. Why not just restore and renovate them in a world class standard and lease them out as restaurants, bookshops and markets. All of the world, this is done so effortlessly. WB in general lacks ambition and a sense of purpose when it comes to doing business and generating a better standard of living for the people.
I have been living in kolkata for almost 20 years now ... and I have to say the worst thing about kolkata is its climate ... man the summers are literally unbearable ... very high humidity ... temperatures also go considerably high ... pollution levels are also high ...
