This old bar trick is a good demo too. And very often you get to see a demo of a drunk person breaking a beer bottle. It goes like this: You take an empty beer bottle, turn it upside down and make sure it is empty and no liquid is leaking out for. Long neck bottles work best. You want it to stay dry for awhile. Next, you take a nice flat dollar bill and lay it down flat on the bar or table. Then you place the beer bottle upside down in the center of the dollar bill and challenge anyone to remove the dollar without knocking bottle over using only one hand. If anyone fails they must buy you a beer. You can roll up the dollar and slowly push the bottle with the dollar, but that is very difficult with only 1 hand. The solution is to grab the bill at the very end with your 4 fingers on top and your thumb on the opposite side. Move the bill toward the bottle creating some slack. Then, as fast as you possibly can, snatch the bill clean straight away like a whip. The secret is to push down slightly with your 4 fingers and scrape the bar under the bill as you snatch it away. Make sure you follow thorough all the way tight to the bar. One other variation is to slowly drag the dollar and bottle to the edge of a table and let some of the bill hang over the edge. Grab the bill tightly with one hand and then come down very fast with your finger striking the bill right between the bottle and your fingers. The apple has a high speed just before the handle hits the table, giving it a relatively high inertia. The inertia of the apple overcomes the deceleration caused by the friction of the apple internals on the blade, causing it to slid down the blade until the apple-blade friction slows the apple to a halt.
@@precioushall1797 It is the same concept. The books had mementum, and there was not sufficient force acting on them to force them to stop, until they hit the wall/desk.
All experiments don't show inertia. Especially the experiment with the filled and empty glass in comparison. In both experiments the glasses experience the same acceleration under the assumption, that you pull on the paper the same way.

7 years later, I come here to point out that speed doesn't affect the inertia of anything, because inertia is entirely dependent on the object's mass.
