Best Microphone/Mixer Setup for A Killer Pro-Level Podcast:
    Rodecaster Pro Mixer: amzn.to/3HfABhB
Shure SM7B: amzn.to/36iLs6w (The Joe Rogan Mic)
    Microphone Cables: amzn.to/3GUqZYe
Slightly Cheaper but all fantastic Mics:

    Heil PR-35: amzn.to/3e2m3jR
    Shure SM58: amzn.to/36bS6v6
Or, buy a kit with the Rodecaster, Rode Mics, and Microphone Cables:
    amzn.to/3iRujeU
If you’re on a serious budget and just want a USB Mic that sounds a million times better than a Blue Yeti, try this one:
    Audio Technica ATR-2100 amzn.to/3WlurAX
    Or this one:
    Samson Q2U: amzn.to/3ZFoiT7
With the above mics, they can plug directly into your computer. However, you’ll need some software like GarageBand or Logic to record the podcast.

Thank you so much, Michael! I just discovered you. I loved these tips. I am just over 100 episodes into my podcast and recently realized that I need to promote my guest plugs upfront, I started calling it "tools up front" and then also at the end and do a screenshare highlihging their site, socials and products.

HI all. Thanks for watching this (free) video. I hope you got something out of it. My gain was hot in this video (I'm well aware...thanks to all that have commented) because a cord had knocked the knob on the zoom H6 and they are SUPER sensitive. As you can see, I'm not wearing in-ears or headphones, so I didn't notice it until post-production, and I didn't feel like re-recording the whole thing. I thought "Hey...people will appreciate the tips and not care about a bit of clipping". Alas...it's RUclips, and everyone needs to make their presence known. Anyway, I hope you appreciate the effort in lighting, camera quality, and content, and can see past the clipping. Peace.

I appreciate the tips, but I totally disagree on avoiding condenser microphones. It may hear a mouse fart in the next county with the gain all the way up, but then it may just sound like hissy background noise garbage anyway. With the gain turned down on the interface a pop filter and a relatively cheap mic delivers just awesome sound, especially at the proximity you're using your mic with, and even typing on cherry mx blues under it is tolerable. If it's quiet I just up it in post with a few decibels and it's smooth as butter.
I'm talking usb interface+XLR condenser mic, haven't tried USB ones, so the yetis may well be doorstops for all I know though.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom! Your advice particularly pertaining to guest is something super easy to overlook but makes a huge difference in their comfort & the quality of discussion. I really liked the tips about the 8 mile method, we don't do traditional interview podcast but this still applies to a degree. The 15% completion statistic was a little shocking and I will definitely keep that in mind moving forward, thanks Michael! Great video!

Blue Yeti microphones are just fine and can and will get the job done with good audio quality. You can always edit out that mouse fart in post production. lol
Also when you hit record allow the mic to pick up at least 15-20sec of ambient sound before you start talking. This way you can get a ambient sound sample for a noise profile when it comes to noise reduction. Also a program called voicemeter can also help with audio quality and serves as a audio mixer.

    • @solohour
      @solohour  5 лет назад +10

Agreed...but that's more work for a casual podcaster. No need to go through the effort if you have a dynamic mic. Good tips though!

I subscribed at the 8-Mile technique explanation and saved the video to re-reference later at the interview techniques part. Haven't heard anyone talk about more advanced interview techniques and that was awesome! I'll be back for more, regardless of audio quality or not plugging yourself as your own guest until after I had stopped listening ;)
