Such a powerful idea for a game. You get a character that you use a lot, and likely become attached to them. You get invested in their lore and personality and want to see them get closure for their banishment. However, the only way to make them truly happy, is to lose them forever. Is it worth it? Perhaps they're better off with you? Perhaps they'd much prefer the civilization of the Commonwealth. You don't know, and you won't know til it's already happened.
Bro it´s just as you say, you get really closer to them, but when you had to let them go is pretty hard, mostly because you want to help them all, but you know you can´t, and then you fight with all your strenght to let them be free once again.
Actually I had a bit of trouble getting into the game, similar to Transistor. When I sat down for the third time, and got to the 1st Liberation Rite - that was the point I legitimately got hooked. Powerful moment.
2-year late comment, I know, but I thought that I would mention that this is actually the final song that plays. The first one is specific to the Tempers. This version is meant for the true nightwings.
Francisco Melendez sending hedwyn away just ruined me.. the part where you read his thoughts and the only thing he can think about is that he broke his promise to you is so heartwrenching...
@@FancyTophatDude I liberated him last. Then myself. Left Tizo Bertrude and Sandalwood. I wanted to get Tizo out. But Tizo is a good friend of Volfred and knows the Downside like the back of his wing. So this trio fits well.
Oh I felt it hard the first time I ever completed a Liberation Rite. I had selected Rukey for the first time and when I got back to the wagon I remember going to ring the nautical bell and memories came flooding back of laughing over annoying him to the point he sabotaged it. For the rest of the game I would always give it a soft tap everytime I returned to the wagon.
UGH This song had me questioning everything during the Liberation rites, I could never play at my best during them because I was second guessing myself. But I love this song for that.
I’ve been thinking about something. From literally any other triumvirate’s perspective, the Nightwings must seem like such villains. Not only is their team absolutely stacked with one of every race in the world, but by Scribe law, they are *automatically* one of the teams in every Liberation Rite. Whether they win often or not, they’re always the adversary to beat. They must seem like such cheaters. Plus they have a Reader, which it’s never mentioned any other triumvirate has. He’s basically got an insider knowledge on everything about the Rites, stuff that the illiterate can’t know. And *then*, they’ve got one of the two presiders of the Rites, the minstrel, just traveling around with them. Winning against them in any situation is an accomplishment, let alone in a Liberation Rite, one of whose referees *is like best buddies with the other team*
very good thinking. I thought that too... Nightwings are so OP. no wonder everyone hates us. Also, i always wondered, since nightwings are so broken and powerful (being there at every liberation rite), how come such few people are trying to get into their ranks ? I mean, gilman switches team with us, so does Pamitha (in a way), but I mean, considering how broken nightwings are, everyone should try to get into that team in they own interests, no ?
the book explains this in the entry for the nightwings. each of the eight scribes has a triumvirate representing their ideals, and the nightwings are explicitly made to be hated adversaries, to unite the other eight.
That was their very purpose. To quote the Book of Rites: "What is a life without an adversary? If not for forces that conspire against the will, life would be devoid of its innateness, the desire to overcome. Thus, when we the Eight at last each fashioned a triumvirate based on our own ideals, we realized a void still needed to be filled, as the night sky needs moonlight. We Eight were united. Our triumvirates shared our affection. They needed us to set them all against a common foe. Thus did we form the Nightwings, a triumvirate envisioned to exceed them all, both through means mortal and divine, and given undue favor in each turning of the cycle. They are the adversary we all face."
Lyrics: By the Scribes we gather in their names To face the Nightwings here before the flames A common foe for all to prove their claim Prevail for freedom or to fail in shame Who shall rise again? The will to overcome shall urge us on To brave injustice 'til the stars have gone The favor of the scribes arrives at dawn Who shall rise again? Who lights the way for the aimless Favor is for the true Scribe-blessed Exalted by the flames, ascend Only the purest heart, repent, repent Stars above, below the pyres burn Who shall remain, whose freedom shall be earned To fly this prison, never to return Never to return (x3) Feel free to correct any mistakes xP

To all who return for the liberation rite, may you speak of which triumvirate you gave mercy to, granting their chosen their freedom, at the cost of your own chosen's, or were beaten by in the rite fairly? I gave Oralech his victory, as I believed that he was wronged, and should be given his freedom. However, as he slowly began to feel uncertain and I helped him ease his mind, he gave me freedom, relinquishing his own chance to return to the realm he was cast down from. It was something I never thought he would do, but it was something that stuck with me for a long time.

Am I the only one who wishes this game had online? Would be awesome to do rites with every other person who's enjoyed this wonderful game. Now I kinda feel like Barker because of what he does if he stays since he also enjoyed the rites more than earning freedom, so much that he kept doing them till others gained interest in them just for the fun of doing them. (though my favourite pooch will always be Rukey)
I fucking almost cried at first liberation rite because I had just learned that you can only free one person at a time and I was forced to give up Jodariel because the only worthy ones to be freed were her, Ti'zo, and Rukey and she's not only been in the downside the longest but she's also the one at suck at most out of the three. I was really happy for her but was upset to see her go.
Jordariel is my favorite of them all and i kept her for last. I kept worrying as to who to free while keeping my favorites for last but then the problem is when will it be the last and my guess was right and i got all my darlings out except the 2 that i just knew would be okay even if they stayed in banishment. And all the songs in the game are just beautiful, make me cry a little sometimes. Because they remind me of the ending and i cried like baby at the end.
LYRICS: By the Scribes, we gather in their names, to face the Nightwings, here before the flames - a common foe for all to prove their claim. Prevail for freedom, or to fail in shame. Who shall rise again? The will to overcome shall urge us on, to breathe in justice 'til the stars have gone. The favour of the scribes arrives at dawn. Who shall rise again? Who lights the way for the ages? Favour is for the true Scribe blessed. Exalted by the flames ascent. Only the purest heart, repent! Repent! Stars above, below the pyres burn. Who shall remain? Whose freedom shall be earned? To fly this prison, never to return. Never to return. Never to return. Never to return.
*SPOILERS* My choice at the last lib rite was the choice between me or Jodariel being free and I would never ever let myself be free when she was at stake so parting with her was so heart wrenching. If you're me and sadly your first ever crush is on a fictional character you'll understand why I was so broken by the time Bound Together started playing, laugh all you want but that fluttery feeling and air headed thing is not a trick or a joke feeling. Holy shit I had to replay the entire game to save Oralech who I felt so devastated after reading the epilogue for.
FRICKEN LOVE THIS SONG!!! I have never played a battle where I felt so inspired to win at all costs. This song SERIOUSLY completes this game. I love this game so much.
Shae had a troubled childhood, but I knew she had to go first. She was too pure and innocent to be stuck down here the rest of her life. Goodbye, moon-touched one.
@@TolianTiger The only one I was highly tempted to release was Pamitha's sister because she asked from the bottom of her heart, but I did not release because her sister was a vindictive psychopath. But a second time I would probably do, especially knowing the cruel destiny that is to leave Pamitha and sister in same place...
i don't understand. Why would the melodies be dissonant ? if you're refering to the 2 melodies from the 2 singers's voices, they are pretty harmonious, no ? they don't strike me as dissonant
Triumvirates that I would never let go: - Accusers - Withdrawn - Pyreheart - Chastity - Dissidents Except if I wanted to destroy Commonwealth in the worst possible way
I first send the "girl" you know, diferent names, because she is only a child. :( In the second liberation rite i send Ruckey because he wants to see her mother again.
The first character I sent was Hedwyn. Idk, to me he deserved it at the time and didn't choose Jodariel because she literally said that she didn't know why she was going into the scribes' gate yet and the game was hinting at a potential reconciliation with Pamitha later. The moment Hedwyn left the crew I inmediatly felt bad because he was such a cool guy and acted as the voice of reason for the group.
just put 2 hours into this game and still figuring out the basics. Can't decide if it's easier on mouse and keyboard or with an xbox controller but it certainly just replaced rocket league for me.
Heard this for the first time and I had to look it up to listen to it while not frantically trying to beat the Tempers. Dang, it was the roughest rite so far.
Ugh this game is amazing. From the story, characters, choices, addicting gameplay. And the soundtrack is amazing too and this is easily my favorite track, though it is very bittersweet and always makes me second guess who I'm liberating and if maybe I should let the other triumvirate win in some cases
The order I freed my teammates was Jodi, Pamitha, Hedwyn, Rukey, Sir Gilman, Bertrude and then Volfred. Ti'zo and Xae stayed in Darkside with me. All in all, I'm happy with my decisions, but I can't wait to play the game again and get the All Remain ending.
ahh, a little disappointed we can't hear the other verses about all the other triumvirates, but this seems pretty fitting to be the one to put on the album
It took my third Liberation Rite to realize the team you face shows up in the song along with their theme being mixed in. Ironically it was the Dissidents
Guys, you just need to wait with Volfred to last liberation rite, I promise you that game becomes like one of those cool anime stuff when u do so. With all his "Ohh! Bakana!"

I didn't lose a rite because I fought for the desperate attempt to free the characters. And I cried after every liberation because I had lost a friend. I freed, in this order: Jodi, Rukey (had to make sure his business got finished), sir gilman (vs. His old triumvirate), Hedwyn, Fae, Pamitha, and Ti'zo.
I wanted to left bertrude and Valgrim behind cause they seem the most chill about being left there. A d I didn't connect that well with the big dweller I needed to take my baby tizo cause he baby. So I left behind moon girl cause she has a surprising sweet ending with the adopted son.
I have tiny nitpicks with this and Mourning Song. I wish both songs were slightly different JUST in-game. I wish Mourning Song were just Tariq singing (since it's meant to be "his words" for Celeste iirc), and I wish Never to Return had a version that was just the lute and mandolin that the pair play with no drums or anything else being added in. Don't get me wrong, I love the final versions we got for both. I just kind of wanted a version of NtR that better fits what's supposed to be happening in-game, which is the two playing their hymn during the Liberation Rites.
Something I feel no one ever considered with the mercy of the scribes, you free so many people regardless of your wins or losses, but no one ever considered the hidden cruelty of the Scribe's design: You free those few.....by damning everyone else to the downside for eternity, a light of freedom snuffed out with the last stars.
The official (I think) lyrics taken from bandcamp (I copy-pasted here for convenience): by the Scribes, we gather in their names to face the Nightwings here before the flames a common foe for all to prove their claim prevail for freedom or to fail in shame who shall rise again? the will to overcome shall urge us on to brave injustice 'til the stars have gone the favor of the Scribes arrives at dawn who shall rise again? who lights the way for the aimless? favor is for the true Scribe-blessed exalted by the flame's ascent only the purest heart repents repent! stars above, below the pyres burn who shall remain, whose freedom shall be earned? to fly this prison never to return never to return

"Rukey"
"Let me finish or I throw a bucket of water into your Pyre before it starts !"
"LET RUKEY BE FREE !"
This song made every liberation match such an emotional moment.
Godspeed, Oralech! You have earned your freedom.
Really cool song, love the slow burn feeling of it !
May This Exile Return In Glory
Feels... This song really makes it sound like you're fighting for the last time.
god damn it dude people sleep on Pyre, easily my favorite idea as far as the music in the games go.
I just now realized that the male and female vocals combining fit with Tariq and Celeste overseeing the Liberation Rite. Brilliant stuff.
After so many years, still strong love and very warm feelings. ❤
Farewell Hedwyn, may I see you upon the other side, to reminisce on our journey up the downside, never to return.
Jodariel looked so grateful... godspeed, Best Girl.
LYRICS:
By the Scribes, we gather in their names,
to face the Nightwings, here before the flames -
a common foe for all to prove their claim.
Prevail for freedom, or to fail in shame.
Who shall rise again?
The will to overcome shall urge us on,
to breathe in justice 'til the stars have gone.
Favour is for the true scribe-blessed
*SPOILERS*
My choice at the last lib rite was the choice between me or Jodariel being free and I would never ever let myself be free when she was at stake so parting with her was so heart wrenching.
This song always made it feel like it i had to go all out. It made it really exciting
Oh... I'm crying again.. Goodbye Hedwyn, Jodi, Rukey, Fae, Pamitha, Volfred, Oralech...
Honestly this is one the best final boss battle themes I've heard
Anyone here allowed an enemy to win once?
I did it when I was against the Fate. Didn't regret it later. :)
I beat the crap out of the others, though.
kenyizsu The Essence, because Pamitha begged for it.
I lost against Tempers and Oralech
I let Tamitha go, even when it would have been the first time I would have one against them.
I let oralech beat me at 5 pyre life... in true nightwing 12 titan stars... because i was missing the archivement mercy shown to 100% xD
Such a complex song with two dissonant melodies fighting.
Fighting as hard as your feelings about the rite's outcome
i don't understand. Why would the melodies be dissonant ? if you're refering to the 2 melodies from the 2 singers's voices, they are pretty harmonious, no ? they don't strike me as dissonant
Nuxsalas!
This game. This fucking game is absolutely breathtaking. Thank you Supergiant Games.
May only the best of us be branded an Exile of the Exiled...
Triumvirates that I would never let go:
- Accusers
- Withdrawn
- Pyreheart
- Chastity
- Dissidents
Except if I wanted to destroy Commonwealth in the worst possible way
I'm doing a playtrough where they all go ... except the Commonwealth.
@@siddbastard "Some Men Just Want To Watch The World Burn" hehehe
(1 year but k)
If the dissidents win they dont actually go free, they leap straight back to the downside to continue balling
Dammit. No! I'M NOT CRYING.... ᴵ'ᵐ ᶰᵒᵗ ᶜʳʸᶦᶰᵍ...
So, who did you send up first? set u Jodi, figured since she'd been down there the longest she deserved to go up first.
Nah, Hedwyn was the first for me. He deserves it most, to be reunited with his girlfriend again.
jodariel
i didnt liked her and i wanted her to be gone
DaFranz Workly I sent him up because he saved my life
My first was hedwyn, liberated Jodi as a second just a few moments ago :
I first send the "girl" you know, diferent names, because she is only a child. :( In the second liberation rite i send Ruckey because he wants to see her mother again.
I played through every Liberation Rite with tears in my eyes. Because of this song and that building bittersweet feeling.
Magnificent.
Yeah, I also freed Hedwyn first. I felt like he deserved it, but I was so sad to see him go.
Imagine, I sent him first because out of the three eligible characters he was the one my strategy at the time relied on least
i went into this game having only seen the trailer and some positive reception
...fae, i am so sorry
May they return in glory
just put 2 hours into this game and still figuring out the basics.
The whole thing about earning youe freedom through an honorable battle is very romantic. To me it's their best story, even if hades is ... more fun ?
This song is so fucking good, deserves more attention
The order I freed my teammates was Jodi, Pamitha, Hedwyn, Rukey, Sir Gilman, Bertrude and then Volfred. Ti'zo and Xae stayed in Darkside with me. All in all, I'm happy with my decisions, but I can't wait to play the game again and get the All Remain ending.
ahh, a little disappointed we can't hear the other verses about all the other triumvirates, but this seems pretty fitting to be the one to put on the album
You can now, with the black mandolin album!
I like to say that in this game, the only true way to lose characters is by winning.
Together we Stand.
Did anyone felt sad when you liberated a fellow exile, I did with Hedwyn, Jodariel and Rukey
3:31 best part (at least for me)
It took my third Liberation Rite to realize the team you face shows up in the song along with their theme being mixed in. Ironically it was the Dissidents
Godspeed
The stars are with us ✨⭐🌌
Guys, you just need to wait with Volfred to last liberation rite, I promise you that game becomes like one of those cool anime stuff when u do so. With all his "Ohh! Bakana!"
By the Scribes, we gather in their names
To face the Nightwings here before the flames
A common foe for all to prove their claim
Prevail for freedom or to fail in shame
Who shall rise again?
The will to overcome shall urge us on
To brave injustice 'til the stars have gone
The favor of the Scribes arrives at dawn
Who shall rise again?
Who lights the way for the aimless?
Favor is for the true Scribe-blessed
Exalted by the flame's ascent
Only the purest heart repents
Repent!
Stars above, below the pyres burn
Who shall remain, whose freedom shall be earned?
To fly this prison never to return
Never to return
I didn't want to split up the main three first. So I let Ti'Zo go first. They all might have been exiled, but he never even had the chance.
Ashley Barret
godspeed reader...
I love love LOVE this song, but i really wish this video had captions. brain sound understanding broke, rip.
The best! 🏆
I wanted to left bertrude and Valgrim behind cause they seem the most chill about being left there. A d I didn't connect that well with the big dweller I needed to take my baby tizo cause he baby. So I left behind moon girl cause she has a surprising sweet ending with the adopted son.
You'll never see them again.
Let them win...
Who else have been heartbreak by make Pamitha fight Tamitha and fail to liberate her because of tears ?
Something I feel no one ever considered with the mercy of the scribes, you free so many people regardless of your wins or losses, but no one ever considered the hidden cruelty of the Scribe's design: You free those few.....by damning everyone else to the downside for eternity, a light of freedom snuffed out with the last stars.
The official (I think) lyrics taken from bandcamp (I copy-pasted here for convenience):
by the Scribes, we gather in their names
to face the Nightwings here before the flames
a common foe for all to prove their claim
prevail for freedom or to fail in shame
who shall rise again?
the will to overcome shall urge us on
to brave injustice 'til the stars have gone
the favor of the Scribes arrives at dawn
who shall rise again?
who lights the way for the aimless?
favor is for the true Scribe-blessed
exalted by the flame's ascent
only the purest heart repents
repent!
stars above, below the pyres burn
who shall remain, whose freedom shall be earned?
to fly this prison never to return
never to return
When the iambic pentameter hits
If you didn't free Jodariel first are you even living?
And break her heart by making her leave her adopted son behind? As if, you ghoul.
LAXALAS!
It's actually Noxalas, which is Sahrian (the language used in the game) for Nightwings.
