Alright Reggie me old china, I was just wondering the other day what was going on with your channel, impatient bugger that I am. Anyway, great to have a new vid from you, and top drawer as usual. Now then... I was tempted to get this when it came out, being a survival game enthusiast, and it sure did look decent. But I was a bit burned out with them at the time, so will reconsider.
FIrst off, I'm not really bothered about story lines in games anyway - when I play games, I want interesting gameplay (yeah, I'm weird like that). I always say that if you want a good story, then read a book, there's plenty of 'em! But here, as you describe it, it does sound pretty jarring to immersion in places, and that would irk me somewhat.
Great to hear they yeeted music from the general soundscape, although that usually doesn't bother me as the very first thing I do in any game is disable the music options - which just detracts from immersion for me, not enhances it (yeah, I'm weird like that too)! But what really get's my goat, is after you've done that, they sneak some ambient music shite into the ambient sounds, but that's mercifully rare.
The most egregious example of such was in Subnautica whilst in EA, where 'action music' would kick in even if you got into a bit of a rumble with so much as a jellyfish. I can tell you right now Reggie, I wasn't having none of it! So I put a right royal winge about it on their Steam forum positing my objections, which was met with replies along the lines of "what the fuck is wrong with you? It adds atmosphere". Nah, fuck that for a game of soldiers! So I persued the matter further and was pleasantly surprised to find that I hadn't been the only one kicking up a stink about it, but also learned that the developers had replied like thus "well, it's now deeply intigrated into the sound files, and so there's not much we can do about, but we might consider it, maybe". "You what!?", I thought "are you having a giraffe!?". Well, that right ground my gears, I don't mind admitting Reggie. But in the end, common sense prevailed, and the Herberts got rid, and the game was a lot better off for it too, in my humble opinion.
Alright, just my tup'pence worth, now I need a nice cuppa. Thanks again our kid, keep up the great work, it's mustard. 👍

Think my comment disappeared but wanted to say this is a proper good write up, and your bang in about Subnautica… still the best survival game for me.
And yes, sorry for the slow videos of late. A newborn is exhausting me but I’m hoping to up the video content shortly as he is soon sleeping through the night fully!
      Cheers mate, love this comment!

Truth be told, you can sink hundreds of hours into this in terms of building and just milling about, but the story can probably be done in less than 10 hours if you know what to do. Can’t help but feel they rushed the story to get it out of early access…

Feel the same, the Forest was such high quality story game with a lot of mystery. I bet they can do the same again but they need more time

You bastards, you shot Virginia! 😒Who shots a tiny girl in a bathing suit?
Other than that, the review is spot on. The ending was really bad and non nonsensical.

I miss the old caves they were so much fun like all interconnected and actually scary and really creative and so much fun with friends and the old map keeping track of which caves youve been in with bases at entrances and actually having to map out the old caves snd remember them spending 30 minutes to an hour in some caves being so big. And yeah i agree with the story its very vague with the clues like the first one but the first one had some level of where to go and the clues were cool and the story was way better i feel they rushed this game. And just some little things here and there they couldve kept from the old game like i miss all the different animal meats and hides. And dynamite for exploring further into the caves

Really good points mate and yes… it’s hard to explain but it’s just not as scary as the first one. Certainly looks pretty but that’s about the only major improvement

it has much potential and and good points but its still quite flawed
    pros:
    graphics are amazing
    changeable seasons
    advanced enemy behaviour
more enemy types than in the first game
improved and more realistic building system
    exploration is entreating
many ways to travel around the map
    you have Kelvin
improved inventory and more items including weapons
it's fun to play with friends
    cons:
the map is too big and not filled out enough
    no specific bioms
solid chance to fall through the map (this is getting fixed more and more)
bugs and inconsistencies that make building annoying at times
there isn't really a reason to build a base
maintenance on big bases can be a lot of work
enemies can glitch through your defensive walls (this could be fixed by now)
enemies have no set patrol routes like in the first game and just spawn near you
no custom building plans like in the first game
less passive and hostile animals than in the first game
sons of the forest is a great game and it's developers are always working on making it better, but as of where it is now it isn't the best survival game ever

      “There isn’t really a need to build a base…”
That’s a great point and I couldn’t agree more. When I look back over my play session, you are spot on. I could have done this whole game without a base. It actually adds nothing really to the play through and I could have easily done it just tenting up in places.
      Great comment mate, well said.

@@cockneygamer base building was probably my favorite part of the forest and I think that there's so much the sequel is missing out on, u could probably make a whole video about it which is frustrating
