    Last week, I sold my 2021 JEEP Compass back to the dealership. I had it for 10 months. Luckily I didn’t owe anything out of pocket because the warranty covered the difference. I went out and purchased a used 2011 Hyundai Accent for $4700 cash. By the way, it runs good! I was $27,000 in debt driving a car that I rarely drove because I work from home most of the time. I feel like a brand new woman! It’s about making better choices with my money that I’m most concerned about. I’m looking forward to a financially free future!

    I started listening to you at the beginning of the pandemic. You were a great factor in me attacking my debt and just looking at credit completely differently. Now I paid it all off and am starting a business because I want to become someone successful and I have faith in myself. You and Jim Rohn's motivational talks turned my thinking around. Thank you!

    The only debt I had was a car payment. I had a 2017 Terrain. Had it for 1 year and 2 months and I went why the heck do I need this? So I sold it back to the dealership. I originally purchased it for 21k and paid it down to 16129 sold it and made $10,217 off of the vehicle. No more debt and I'm so happy about it. Now I'm investing my car payment and the money saved from my car insurance. Yay!

    I agree with Mr. Ramsey's advice regarding sticking to your principles with one exception: marriage. Based on my own experiences, if you stick with your principles in a marriage, you'll be rewarded with divorce papers. Especially when money is involved. If you tell a woman you are reducing costs and sticking to a budget, she hears you say "You're not worth spending money on." And she's on to the next one....

I’m assuming if he has a payment on it - It would be newer and more reliable than a junker. Whatever he saves to buy a junker he could use that to pay down his loan and have it almost paid off. That’s just me thou. I’ve had a junker before and it was a constant headache! Ugh

    • @nelsonofalltrades
      @nelsonofalltrades 3 года назад +9

      I believe Dave doesn't categorize a mortgage as "debt" in his plan for several reasons. 1) mortgage debt is considered "good debt" because your home is an appreciating asset (most of the time), meaning it can be sold to almost immediately remedy that debt (depending on how long it takes to sell), 2) for practical reasons, most people cannot afford their first home with cash, so that debt is "acceptable". Also, that 160k/year they were earning probably didn't start at 160k, but rather ramped up to that by the end. 34 months is quick if you consider they essentially paid off an entire mortgage's worth of consumer debt in that small time...It took us about 2 years to pay off 80k of debt on a single income (I work about 100 hours per week w/ full time job + side hustle), so they outpaced us and I felt like we paid ours down considerably quick - but it's not really a race anyways. The goal is to reach the finish line, and everyone will reach it at different times. Big congrats to their family!

    I have been wanting to ask, for the purpose of understanding, what is the reason it's okay to take out a mortgage the first time after completing the 1st 3 baby steps even with knowing your stance on debt? I have many ideas as to why it is okay but im a bit conflicted with the whole idea of getting back into debt when the baby steps (1-3) are completed. I see it works because of the success stories shared for those who are well into the final steps of the baby steps. But i just need understanding for my minds sake. By the way my vision may be a bit distorted because I have not started the baby steps yet (a bit of a complicated situation: I do not currently make a steady income) But that is the intended goal. Can someone please shed some light on this?

    • @celisseevans309
      @celisseevans309 2 года назад

      Student loans, car loans, things like that are much smaller (usually) than the amount of a mortgage so it's very doable for people to pay off their debts but not so realistic for them to save up to buy a house cash (ESPECIALLY nowadays). So the idea is you pay off all of your debts, get the mortgage and then go balls to the wall paying it off as well.

On this particular episode we were very astonished to hear curse words being used by Dave Ramsey, a man who markets himself as a leader of a faith-based brand and built his fortune on such. I no longer have the confidence using Dave Ramsey's curriculum in my classroom because of the contradictory behavior we have wintessed.
