Nice video. I read where you can spread plumbers grease on the flapper and seal after cleaning them and that could eliminate the problem without purchasing a new flapper.

I’ve been dealing with this damn leaky toilet for years. Bought a dozen different flappers and I thought I needed a new toilet. Felt like a dummy when I watched this video. Thanks lol

This was very helpful, thank you! Took the flapper off to find it was pretty dirty but there was also a bubble that had formed on the rubber bit which appeared to be propping open the valve. I punctured it, reinstalled and did a food colouring dye test and voila! All fixed. Thanks again, it's always so nice not to have to buy something new if it's not totally necessary

Thanks much for posting! I had tried cleaning my flapper and it helped, but didn't completely prevent my leak. Your video showing the particles migrating to the hinge area of your original, but cleaned flapper shows me clearly that these flappers lose their shape over time.

This is the only video I have seen that talks about cleaning the valve seal, after replacing my flapper I still hear water trickling and toilet fill up 30 seconds with water every half hour or so.. I bought the korky universal 2" flapper

Might you clean all the debris from inside the tank to prevent this stuff from accumulating on the flapper seat?

good info. our flappers cost $20!!! but that tank needs cleaning, and a water softener should be installed.

I not an expert. :D I think it is a flapper for a slow drain. It won't close too soon. He didn't get the exact same but maybe it was designed too close slowly as well.

There are different colored/sized grommets that fit in there. You use that to "tune" the the toilet to flush the specific amount of water you want to use per flush. IIRC, the smaller the hole, the more water you use.

Wouldn’t you want to clean the scummy interior of the toilet also? All that slime is just going to start building up again on the flapper.
