''Precious' bassline by Bruce Foxton is nothing less than legendary and deserves as much recognition as ''Under Pressure'' 'and ''Another One Bites the Dust'' by John Deacon from Queen. This track is a pure diamond.
I am 55 Sam and you are right to be obsessed. They were magnificent mate. I was lucky enough to see em live twice and they were great. But their music lives on and you have that to enjoy as well as nowadays thousands of videos you can watch online 👍
B side of the no 1 hit "Town Called Malice" only 2nd band to ever play both A and B side on one show. Actually it may have even been a double A side, need to check on Google 😂. Yes sorry it was a double A side 😊👍.
I wouldn't say Paul was stifled in The Jam. Had they continued, they'd have been entitled to bring guest artists on tracks where they felt the guest artist would add something unique. The Jam, featuring... or even recruit a 4th member for 1 or 2 albums. But to say Paul was stifled is not really respecting Rick and Bruce, who were versatile and wouldn't dream of holding Paul back. They all 3 would very much have become more adventurous as musicians.
@@stefaniestansfield1401 very well said. Paul was moving in a different musical direction, hence the split. Weller was always the main man, but bruce and rick were major players to the greatest trio ever in a band. Their legacy will never fade.
i am a massive Jam fan but this was awful. Plus around this John Weller's lad was already plotting his exit without notifying his bandmates... real class. Shameful.
I'm 79 and in a nursing home but I love the jam
I'm 107 and live in a coffin and I reckon they're awesome.
Good for you mate xx
Little early

Im 55 and thankfully healthy & happy. And the jam is still precious to my honey ears.

One of the most underplayed hits that is awesome
Im 53 and the jam takes me back to a brilliant time for music i still listen to them
Should say double A-side just brilliant!
So nostalgic, love it what a great B-side
One of their most underrated songs, I love it! Played it in the car eatlier with plenty of bass, awesome tune!
im 21 and obsessed with the jam. not my era but love there songs
So what?
@@sratus Hey Paul's moustache
Have you listened to the early Jam stuff? Quality..
14 and obsessed

I'm 60, but hearing this I am 20 again!
I am 53 and still love The Jam! This track is from January 1982, when I was in 1st year of Secondary School.
Me too
Right there with you!
I'm taking my family to see these guys on 29th,can't wait. It'll be a good night.
I think this was the best 12 inch single I ever bought !
I heard this song as a kid and fell in love with JAM.🥰
Funk from England ❤❤❤❤
Song's a masterpiece
What a tune for a b side
The jam. Great band from the seventies and eighties music 🎶 good song from them forty years old still sounds good now good stuff
Wow ! Such a jam song to dance from the jam! And the bass line wow! Delicious!
Brilliant song 👍
Papa's Got A Brand New Precious...
Helen Ayres that was running in my mind as well...they share the same rhythm
Diplomatic way of saying they ripped off 75% of the bassline.
@@pixelfrenzy Which came first is the question.
@@ajs41 Pgibag was released originally in 1981 but was a hit in 1982. This came in between, so unless it had been written earlier Pigbag came first.
@@dj_grim I wonder whether Paul Weller had heard it before he wrote Precious.
Back in the day I always played this song over and over again, one of my favourites from The Jam, thanks for sharing my friend..
This is when the British were at their very greatest ❤
the jams best song, at least 4 me
Has to be the long version for the instrumental at the end
down in the tube station at midnight...?
Smithers-Jones...although Foxton sings that
Funk at its best
❤
Lonely as the moors on a winters morning. Weller lyrics, so simple, but simply brilliant.
HUH!! 🕺
Me gusta los matices funkys que le Dan un rico matiz al grupo. Creo que el sonido del viento da chispa.

Yip double A-side luv it
STILL a great record
Weller was Stifled with The Jam. There were limitations musically, he felt.

His subsequent solo output has mostly been inferior to The Jam material.
Brilliant then BRILLIANT NOW
listened to this after walls come tumbling down! by the style council, beautiful works from weller
Cuando esperimentas y te sale algo con mucho ritmo!
Amazing!!!
Paul Weller-Sack the phrase “modgod”, in my opinion absolute legend!!! Just my opinion, live with it. Should be more recognised in the industry.
Totally agree with you brother still pushing himself trying different styles who else from his era are doing number 1 albums legend
One of those songs that still sounds amazing at 0.75 speed
Hey George, love u x
B side to Town Called Malice.
Precious by the Jam Council....
The end was coming!!. In October 82 it finally happened.
Shows how diverse the band were
FFS! Give it a rest
You'd never associate The Jam with funk; Weller is a massive Mayfield/Mingus fan I suppose.
He pinched this quite blatantly from _Papa’s Got A Brand New Pigbag._
late 70s early 80s...what a time...miss it so much
Industry shutting down, mass unemployment, Thatcher...
The music was brilliant then! Happy days !
Sutcliffe on the rampage, riots in '81,and just brilliant music ! Harrington jackets, Adidas Kick trainers, doctor Martin boots etc !!!
OK boomer.
cool 🎵
Yes😆🎸🇬🇧
Weller is cool as fuck
Show 👏🏻
When I heard this song, I was done with the Jam
(c)1977?... It was 1982 mate
"When The Jam released their debut album, In The City, on 20 May 1977" Read the link given before being a smart arse.
Halewood The Wool To be fair....further down it says 'music video of The Jam performing Precious (c) 1977'. So the original post had a point.
The Woking Mozart.
hit the nail on the head there pal !
A 21 year old with a very wise head.

I'm a huge fan! Sounds like the Remain in Light Talking Heads (another favourite band of mine), am I wrong?
More like fear of music but I see where you're coming from
It’s definitely _Papa’s Got A Brand New Pigbag._
Yep exactly the same bassline for most of it and only a year after Pigbag. Also some similar brass sounds. 🤔
Brilliant💫
Fuckin love this song ✊🎸🎺

One of the best bassists ever!!
Doesn't sound like a Rickenbacker though
Should have gone on from this with The Jam. Hinsights a wonderful thing.
Oh do shut up.
Weller and the shades...
More funkier than anything the Style Council ever did.
More funky, or funkier, but yes! Absolutely. x
Stunning, moody, melancholic. But somehow Julian lifts you way up !
Bassline sounds similar to Papa's Got A Brand New Pigbag.
.... I think it has also been sampled by haircut 100 for my favourite shirt

Yeah split a highly successful outfit to form The Shit Council.
Yeah, how do you know??????
And he's still highly successful 40 years later. I think his foresight was spot on.
Like it or not this went to No1 as AA side. So it can't be that bad.
One of those songs, like The Stone Roses' "I Am The Resurrection" that fades out just when it's getting really groovy.
If you like that fucky groove listen to the julian cope album Peggy suicide. ..you have good taste in music bro. .
