- The sons of Korah wrote Psalm 42 and Psalm 43. These two Psalms should be read together. Psalm 42:7 contains the
phrase, “... deep calleth unto deep, ...” These two Psalms are intended for people who are: 1) in over their head; 2) in
deep debt; 3) in deep sorrow; 4) in deep trouble; or, 5) out of their depth.
Psalm 42 was written to reveal the profound connection between all who are in their deepest need to their God’s limitless
depth of love and mercy. This was the profound connection that freed Haratio Staffard to write It Is Well With My Soul.
Stafford was a Presbyterian attorney.
