You can sometimes stall out their substitute PP with a steel type set up mon with healing. I had a game where I pulled it off with a Tera Steel SD Roost H-Decidueye.
Every sub seeder in randbats is hell to play around. The level scaling makes all of them way bulkier and faster than they would be otherwise, and if you don’t have a faster wallbreaker that can nail them with a super effective hit, you need to be ultra careful with how much you let them set up. Then you throw in tera which lets them set up a sub for free, and you can actually just instalose if you don’t have anything to deal with it.
one main thing I've noticed in random battles is that Sticky Web is always broken. This is due to the fact that there is a pretty good chance that there is no hazard control. It's pretty easy to set up and gives your opponent a -1 speed for the rest of the game on most pokemon.
In general hazards are more broken that usual in rb, because you don't choose your lead and you're not guaranteed to have hazard control or Pokémon with magic guard or poison type for tspikes. I think they should make that if your opponents has hazards in the team you have guaranteed at least one way to remove It, otherwise if you have for example lead spidops or smeargle with webs and spikes and the opponent cannot remove it or immediately respond you have such a bus advantage.
Hazards are oftentimes just brutal If you have them your opponent might have easy ways to remove them that you can't stop. Or your opponent has super heavy hazards that cripple your team. Like a grounded team with no boots or spinners against webs is just a losing state. Or having your hazard remover blocked via a ghost type, gholdengo, or not wanting to be switched in since it itself is being worn down by hazards, and it's not fast enough to clear them without risking a ko.
There are some surprisingly good low tier grass types that are great in rand bats. In addition to vileplume, bellossom with strength sap and quiver dance can become functionally unkillable if you don't have a way to counter it quickly. And the less that's said about harvest sub leech seed tropius, the better. I've seen it switch in and effectively end battles on the spot
I swear Strength Sap is a top 5 move in Randbats, it’s infuriating to deal with, especially when you roll like 5 physical wallbreakers and one Water type and now you’re boned.
yeah, bellossom has a bunch of crazy options in the base format its not funny. strength sap quiver growth, good physical and special attacks- one of few to get moonblast, triple axle. also gets encore, drain punch, and can be an extra threat with speedy weather ball and buff+ sustain in sun i dont know which exact moves are actually available in random bats, but it already has alot of variety in what it can pull off so set ambiguity helps it out alot, as does a boost to all of its stats via higher level
Part of that is the lack of team preview and zero guarantee of defensive synergy. In standard play, you can hold onto your LO sweeper until you’re in a position where they can clean up. You just pick other team members who can fulfill defensive quotas on the LO user’s behalf. In Randbats, you kind of can’t do that because you have no idea what they have on their team. If you swing blindly into a switch-in, your LO chip damage might literally do more damage to yourself than to your opponent. Plus, your LO sweeper might also be the only thing on your team that has a key defensive typing, so its doubling as a pivot and taking LO recoil on top of the damage it takes from pivoting.
Also stuff is generally bulkier considering the EV distribution (less offensive, more hp and defences) and the level difference help in making the high risk high reward item of Life Orb less useful
Great video. Always love to see people bringing more attention to rands. at least it gets to be lv 100 to make up for not having access to Psychic and having 48 in everything except offences, where it peaks at 72. then its just an ubsurdly frail and slow (but not slow enough to always outspeed in trick room) mon with exactly one move that still doesnt hit hard emough, is disadvantage state risk liability and folds to anything that isnt a ground offensive move. At least its a reliable mon that you can sac i guess, unless the opponent picks a ground type move by sheer coincidence and then you cant even do that. Woo, it can beat a mon that can only attack with ground moves and even then the opponent will switch. if you finish off a mon, the opponent can just send out a dark type to get a guaranteed extra turn advantage (best case scenario for unown, they can get more turns if you stay in hoping for the sac if you predict they will predict your specific switch and also attack)
@@increvitablehit4869 I mean, every ‘mon is a reliable ‘mon you can sac, if you decide upfront that it’s so worthless, the only thing it’s worth using it for is sacing? Like, it’s even worse than just a free sac, because unlike throwing a shedinja on spikes, you can switch Unown and your opponent could just almost kill and then use you as set-up fodder. Or get a guaranteed free switch to something with high SPD or a psychic resist/dark typing. So, in general: not a fan, but it is always hilarious when I see I’ve gotten dealt it. Feels mighty fine when you still win with a 5 + epsilon v 6 handicap :)
@@calebmarshall3157 yeah, i mean its kinda hard to find value in unown battlewise, although 48 hp and uninvested defenses is usually low enough to get reliably ohkoed by most anything with an offensive stat (oh wait nvm its lv 100 so its even terrible enough at being reliably weak). its terrible because of the whole liability thing (especially if roared or locked in), but the fact that randbats can roll you unknown is a meme that has SOME merit, since it does feel rather good to win at worse odds (hopefully rolling unown in that format increases your chance at getting something pretty potent, otherwise its just kinda a meme that would get frustrating in most situations). Also, i think using unknown as a levitate pivot would be really funny (it should at least clear hazards or stats stages upon entry, then id have more of a niche), but in the end of the day, Unown is a funny useless mon that may be required for some badass evolutions or may even evolve someday. unown evo Mega with actual moves and more than 4 moveslots when??? being able to choose say any specific hidden power type on command midbattle could be pretty neat
Volbeat and Illumise are two mons that always have a way to annoy me in every single ranbattle format. Shared power, mono type, mayhem, gen 9 ranbat, etc
In random battles where I almost lose, I have a Leafeon that just carries me to a very impressive comeback! Leafeon has always been my favourite Eeveelution but all the times it has saved me has solidified its place as my favourite Eeveelution

Grass types are the monsters of random battles: Sub-seed Serperior, Tropius and whimsicott. Unkillable Bellosom, Dipplin (i hate that guy) and Arboliva Also good luck switching anything on a specs Sunflora
One Pokemon that's a lot better than you'd expect in randbats is Regigigas. If your opponent's team doesn't have a good wallbreaker for normal types, it's pretty realistic for it to manage to stay on the team for five turns. It was even almost overpowered at one point with Toxic Sub Protect Body Slam
I remember I had an eviolite Shroomish with poison heal and leech seed making it impossible to one shot and constantly heal a ton. Swept my opponents whole team
pokemon with high speed stats but low smogon usage r also goats, since bc of their higher level end up being far and away the fastest things in the format-mon like ambipom r unbeatable
even though it doesnt have the highest winrate, sunflora will always be the biggest random battles winner to me. this shit hits like a fucking truck its unbelievable
Random battles is such a mixed bag. I was recently in the 1680s and proceeded to have some of the worst teams after. I just broke back into the 1300s after the worst luck.
Random Battles are so fun, always a treat to watch some trash tier mon be my win con. at some point I want to try and get on the top 500 for all the gens random battles at once at some point as a fun challenge.
I sometimes wish there was a randoms format where you could pick your lead, or works like ou where you see both teams and pick a lead. The amount of times a lead had just flat out completely screwed me because it was in a horrible lead matchup and they also had set up, like shell smash Blastoise vs my fortress.
One of the scariest random battles Pokemon is Squawkabilly. It has a decent speed tier and either Guts or Hustle to hit hard. Guts boosted Tera Normal Facade is incredibly difficult to deal with. It also has Quick Attack for priority and U-turn for switching. The difference between Hustle and Guts is also very relevant. The threat of Choice Band Hustle hitting you hard right away often forces switches and gives you the turn you need to set up the burn for Guts. But yea, Delphox feels broken in RandomBatts
I was hopeing to hear about vikavolt's high win rate. Thats a favorite of mine and I was disapointed it was so slow despite being known to be fast going off the pokedex entrys.
In gen 8 random battles galarian Moltres was insane, if I saw it on my team I knew I won. 1 nasty plot, dynamax, max airstream and the game was over. You had chance to get beserk when in dyna for more power, and it had chesto resto to circumvent status.
never forget moody sub seed scovillain, how anyone thought that was a good idea is beyond me. the moment you step in against a mon that can't beat you, you just win, or at least punch a giant hole in the enemy team. unless you get the 5% chance you just dont get any good stat boosts.
I've had the number one spot on Gen 4 randoms a couple times, and in that format I'd usually prefer an ambipom, jynx or typhlosion over almost any legendary or OU threat
Initializing petition to unban leftovers, leech seed, substitute, protect, flamethrower, moody Scovillain🤣Definitely for the better, but I'm glad my favorite gen 9 design had its brief moment in the sun.
Another thing, bcuz of the ev distribution, strength sap becomes more useful just bcuz it can gain much more hp even against those with low attack, making it that much btr
Q-dance strength sap belossom is also pretty strong. You can boost ur spdef and also crippling ur opp attack. Drifblim can also be very annoying for the same reason but it's a lot more manageable because it doesn't have giga drain. It's just really annoying to face.
Ngl the true best randoms format is hackmons cup, where absolutely anything can happen and you have to figure out how to play with the entirely randomized mons you're given that can range from unusable slop to crimes against humanity, I don't think anyone else in history ever has or ever will have their tera ghost synthesis rage fist empoleon get countered by a tera normal psychic noise barbaracle in a real match
I have no graphs or evidence to back this up, but I feel like there are way more ATK-based Pokemon in the roster so Strength Sap, Iron Defense, and any Bulk Up-type strats feel insanely broken in gen 9 ranbats. There are many instances where I get something like a Strength Sap Sinistcha and it counters the entire enemy team, and vice versa.
Strength Sap is uniquely good in Random Battles format because EVs are distributed evenly, meaning even Special Attackers have fairly high Attack stats. It's not uncommon to Strength Sap a Pokemon with only Special moves and heal to full. In every other format, people intentionally use low Attack on pure Sp. Attackers. 'Mons like Drifblim that have Strength Sap and Sp. Defence boosting are monsters in RandBats.

My favorite Vileplume counter is switching in a Tentactuel or Swalot on strength sap
@@samlofquist2477 The meta needs more liquid ooze. And desperately! It’s been nice seeing psychic noise come in though.
It's easy to forget how important levels are when the default is 100.
In random battles where I almost lose, I have a Leafeon that just carries me to a very impressive comeback!
Leafeon has always been my favourite Eeveelution but all the times it has saved me has solidified its place as my favourite Eeveelution
I love how you cover all these different formats in your videos! Could you do a video on the Battle Stadium singles format? I’m actually shocked how different the metagame is compared to Smogon singles/ubers and it’s really cool!
Grass types are the monsters of random battles:
Sub-seed Serperior, Tropius and whimsicott. Unkillable Bellosom, Dipplin (i hate that guy) and Arboliva
Also good luck switching anything on a specs Sunflora
Disappointing lack of Sigilyph in this video, that thing is a beast.
One Pokemon that's a lot better than you'd expect in randbats is Regigigas. If your opponent's team doesn't have a good wallbreaker for normal types, it's pretty realistic for it to manage to stay on the team for five turns. It was even almost overpowered at one point with Toxic Sub Protect Body Slam
vileplumes always been my favorite pokemon, so glad to see it doing well
I remember I had an eviolite Shroomish with poison heal and leech seed making it impossible to one shot and constantly heal a ton. Swept my opponents whole team
In random battles The amount of times when a pokemon that runs sword dance and life orb dies to its recoil its so infuriating 😅
Love this! Please do more content on the randoms format!
Cool that getting a Registeel feels like you just a a steel wall on your team. Pretty appropriate.
Shoutouts to Seaking, saved me more times than I can count in randoms.
Vileplume was a pokemon I asked you to use one time, it was pretty funny. I'm glad it has a place here.
I would love to see more random battle content. This was great
This channel would be so interesting as a podcast format
Showdown account ADV Jimothy Cool was top 10 gen 3 random battles for a while.
pokemon with high speed stats but low smogon usage r also goats, since bc of their higher level end up being far and away the fastest things in the format-mon like ambipom r unbeatable
Random pokemon that dominate weird battles
Tropius and Salazzle are goated in this format
even though it doesnt have the highest winrate, sunflora will always be the biggest random battles winner to me. this shit hits like a fucking truck its unbelievable
9:03 that's redemption!! A very popular PS french streamer
J'étais tellement étonné de le voir ici :,)
This gives me context on how the #1 Random Battle player translates effectively into 2023-2024 VG Top 4 & Stockholm Champion.
love the fact that this has come out right before the RBLT
Random battles is such a mixed bag. I was recently in the 1680s and proceeded to have some of the worst teams after. I just broke back into the 1300s after the worst luck.
Was carried by a Vileplume the other day, i love that little dude
Random Battles are so fun, always a treat to watch some trash tier mon be my win con. at some point I want to try and get on the top 500 for all the gens random battles at once at some point as a fun challenge.
I always celebrate when I see vileplume. He’s just a dude worth celebrating!
I once swept someone with a Jumpluff in random battles, and during gen 8 random battles Galarian Corsula was actually pretty good
I think I can faintly hear the arcane odyssey theme in the background 4:40
That’s from legend of Zelda wind waker. Used in a lot of roblox games lol
@@thekrampusclaus4148 I never knew that! That's actually really interesting.
@@ryandimalanta2884 it’s the ocean theme from wind waker
Its funny that Vileplum is good in rand bats, cause i believe that bellosom is the best at rand bats.
I personally see the value of Spewpa in this format. It has a very intimidating aura
I think Magcargo needs more Furretcargo. These fine fellows need more horsepower.
I sometimes wish there was a randoms format where you could pick your lead, or works like ou where you see both teams and pick a lead. The amount of times a lead had just flat out completely screwed me because it was in a horrible lead matchup and they also had set up, like shell smash Blastoise vs my fortress.
Gen 3 random battle is so fun, they balanced it really well
One of the scariest random battles Pokemon is Squawkabilly.
Plusle/Minun are the GOATs
In gen 8 random battles galarian Moltres was insane, if I saw it on my team I knew I won. 1 nasty plot, dynamax, max airstream and the game was over. You had chance to get beserk when in dyna for more power, and it had chesto resto to circumvent status.
Delphox is one of my favorites, if not #1. Glad it's doing well for itself somewhere nowadays.
The main skill that higher level RanBat players cultivate is identifying which Pokémon they need to win and which mon they need to remove.
never forget moody sub seed scovillain, how anyone thought that was a good idea is beyond me. the moment you step in against a mon that can't beat you, you just win, or at least punch a giant hole in the enemy team. unless you get the 5% chance you just dont get any good stat boosts.
I’m usually all in for the horses but they seriously need to give back that furret guy what he deserves.
Jim, do you think Meowscarada will survive in OU this month, or will it be over for it come October?
Idk
I always hate going against Volbeat and Illumise in randbats
Best Pokémon channel out there
Another thing, bcuz of the ev distribution, strength sap becomes more useful just bcuz it can gain much more hp even against those with low attack, making it that much btr
Q-dance strength sap belossom is also pretty strong. You can boost ur spdef and also crippling ur opp attack. Drifblim can also be very annoying for the same reason but it's a lot more manageable because it doesn't have giga drain. It's just really annoying to face.
For a while Band Furret was an absolute menace
I once stalled out my opponent out of pp because they couldn't break through wigglytuff.
galarian corsola was such a menace in gen 8 randbats
Defensive checks also become stronger under no team
Preview conditions
Ngl the true best randoms format is hackmons cup, where absolutely anything can happen and you have to figure out how to play with the entirely randomized mons you're given that can range from unusable slop to crimes against humanity, I don't think anyone else in history ever has or ever will have their tera ghost synthesis rage fist empoleon get countered by a tera normal psychic noise barbaracle in a real match
I was really surprised to see a 52% winrate on top pokemon. Random battles seems to be balanced quite well.
Aside from tropius, i also fear the toxic stall salazzle. Flamethrower, sub protect toxic. Nothing is safe from corrosion.
It's basically an instant loss if the enemy has grastrodon and you don't have a grass move, toxic, or boosts.
no lol
Strength Sap is uniquely good in Random Battles format because EVs are distributed evenly, meaning even Special Attackers have fairly high Attack stats. It's not uncommon to Strength Sap a Pokemon with only Special moves and heal to full. In every other format, people intentionally use low Attack on pure Sp. Attackers.
'Mons like Drifblim that have Strength Sap and Sp. Defence boosting are monsters in RandBats.
Gen 6 Silk Scarf Ambipom, my beloved
Borrowing money from a shark like Furret is incredibly reckless behavior, I expected better from Magcargo
If Magcargo got that far in debt its his own problem. This is why you shouldn't make deals with the maffia.
