7 must to boost your weight loss:-
    1. Eat & fast for ur hormones
    2. Leans into the longer fast when struggling in weight loss.
    3. Eat more 2 major foods ; green and proteins
    4. When exercising, the key is HIIT training(high intensity interval training)
    5. Stop eating when it's dark.
    6. Prioritize sleeping
    7. Balance the nervous systems

I'm so happy I found you!! I am 63, and I have gone from a size large down to a small. It's not even a diet anymore. It's just the way I eat. And I dont miss the junk I used to eat.
    Thank you!❤

You're changing my life! Under a month instead IF and already lost 6+ pounds even when I'm not overweight. I've finally ovulated on time instead of having a long cycle, and my anxiety has DISAPPEARED. I thought I was just going to be an anxious person forever, but I cannot describe how amazing and calm I feel when I'm in ketone-burning mode! My husband says it's night and day!
I was craving snacks ALL the time and constantly felt hungry. I would binge-eat infront a movie when my efforts to slim down would go awry. Suddenly, I never need a snack!! I'm not thinking about food, even plain food tastes fantastic to me. Suddenly I love salads and greens, without even trying. I'll eat raw peppers and lettuce without dressing or complex ingredients and wolf it down like it's dessert! I don't think I realised just how insulin resistant I was, and how much this was stopping me from enjoying food.
    Thank you SO MUCH!

I watched her Diary of a CEO podcast and did these very basics first :)
      1) Moved bkfast forward, dinner back (eat at 12pm, 3pm, 5pm)
      2) Drank water/herbal tea continuously
      3) Had some no salt/oil peanut butter to stop hunger pangs during fasting window
      4) Fasted to my period cycle
Week 1 (when period starts): 17 hours fasting
Week 2 (about to ovulate): 15 hours
Week 3 (after ovulation): 17 hours
Week 4 (before period): no fasting (feast like you're pregnant!)
I recommend reading her Fast Like a Girl book and her podcast on Diary of a CEO where she explains things in much more detail, such as varying your fasts once you've gotten used to fasting, and how to eat to maximise the benefit of fasting :)

I think taking notes is actually better than highlighting so you don’t have to refer back and find it in the book. I am still reading both simultaneously and going to do notes instead. Great idea! 👍

My weight loss journey seems to parallel yours decade to decade. I'm 59 now and for the past 4 months or so, at the start of the month I started doing a 3-day water fast, mostly because I just got exhausted trying to figure out what my body wants/needs anymore. The fast leaves me feeling like I have a positive reset but have no idea where to go from there

I've been veggie since I was a kid. Grew up with two chefs in the family so food has always been my passion. On many occasions, I've been asked by others how best to be veggie. I always say you need to enjoy cooking because a great deal of the foods promoted as veggie/ vegan are processed and not healthy. Some products can be extremely high in sugar.
When changing food habits always remember if you can't understand the ingredients listed, don't buy it.

Yes, in my 20s, 30s, 40s, I used to think more exercise would lead to more weight loss and/or maintenance. It did not. It only led to lots of injuries. By my 50s I gave up, ate ultra healthy but clueless as to why I kept gaining weight. I started IF about 2 months ago and am blown away by ALL the benefits, including weight loss. THANK YOU!

I've always exercised. In fact I use to say, I exercise to eat what I want.
When I hit my 40's and started gaining belly fat, I began exercising harder and longer. Never happy with the results. A couple of years back, I started making the connection of increased cortisol and exercise.
I'm in my mid 50's now and last month I listened to Dr. Mindy on the Mel Robbins podcast and have purchased her book Fast Like a Girl. Finishing up my 4th week on this new lifestyle journey. Have not yet weighed myself but my clothing is getting loose, by breasts are reducing (thank goodness), I'm sleeping better. I've also found that I no longer obsess about food and I'm so much more aware of what I'm putting in my mouth.
Today is the new moon and I plan to begin the journey of my intermittent fasting cycle following the moon.

Really struggling to shift weight too. First month I lost 6.5kg on low carb and 16:8, then gained almost 5kg back. Now on my 3rd month slowly implementing what I've learned from Fasting Like a Girl, varying fasts and diet and very slowly losing weight (5kg from my original weight vs 6.5kg in the first month. Definitely feeling how much harder it's to lose weight in my 40s than in my 30s but learning to be in tune with my cycle and recognise what I need in each phase has been a huge help. ❤

I just found old measurements this morning, and last year I lost about 15lbs and 27 inches (a ton off my belly) in about 5 months and have maintained it for almost a year. Back then I did this averaging about 16 hours of clean fasting (only water and black coffee or tea) and 8 hour eating window. Now I want to take off the final 5 and found that I need to go up to about 20 hours. The hunger waves have certainly become much more manageable. Focusing on eating well for me helps manage overeating during my feeding window. I did the Zoe study a few years back and confirmed that carbs are not my friend. I could easily become a diabetic like the rest of my family. I also found that, for me, excessive carb intake during my feeding window makes fasting the next day a LOT harder, but that’s just me. I am a 59 yo post menopausal woman who is thrilled to be able to lose body fat. I’m also excited to be able to get stronger with my crossfit workouts. As I approach 60 I was worried that I was too “old” for success. Thank you Dr. Mindy. 😊

I have to thank you. I'm 57, post menopausal and have been keto for 20 years and it stopped working for me and had to figure out how to break through the barrier. I've now been fasting since March and have lost 21 pounds and still losing. I did get stuck at 18 pounds lost because I wasn't switching in and out of fat burning, but now that I have figured out how to manage that, i've lost 3 more pounds and counting. My weight is now 129 and I don't think I should be losing much more but well see. I need to start Hit training but i'm a FedEx courier here in Southern California and I get a lot of exercise just from work alone. I frequently fast 20 hours and have a 4 hour eating window. I now do 24 hour fasts and am working towards that 36 hour one but haven't done one yet. Anyway I just wanted to say thank you for all the video's; they've really helped me. Have a very blessed day.

Please explain why HIIT is good and will not make Cortisol?

    • @DrMindyPelz
      @DrMindyPelz  6 месяцев назад

HIIT is effective for its time efficiency and health benefits, including improved cardiovascular health and fat loss. Despite concerns about cortisol, HIIT's short duration and alternating intensity levels typically do not lead to excessive cortisol production. In fact, the structured nature of HIIT helps regulate cortisol response, preventing prolonged elevation associated with chronic stress. When done properly and in moderation, HIIT is a safe and efficient exercise option.

Kellie, have you considered focusing on muscle building now that you’re at a low weight? Even if you have a small frame, I think you’ll be happier with your results if you add five pounds of muscle instead of losing more weight. When you lose weight, your shape stays the same but gets smaller. When you add muscle, you transform your shape.

Hi Dr. Mindy. Another great video. I have been following you from than a year now and I lost 30 pounds. I feel great and fasting worked like a miracle for me. In one of your videos recently you mentioned in and out of various fasting programs. I do that on regular basis ( intermittent fasting), follow circadian rhythm ( no food after dark). Oh my! My body responded so well and sometimes I feel like my body says “thank you” to me. I am on very low carb and that also worked like wonders. I don’t crave carbs. Thank you for such a great content.

At the moment I am struggling with consistent weight loss. I cannot eat more than 25grams of carbs because I am in diabetes remission but still insulin resistant. Eating carbs would send my blood sugars through the roof and I would be back to square one. I am not complaining as I've lost 126lbs already. I am doing 24 hour fasts am aiming to start 36 hour fasts this week.

Hi Dr Mindy! I have your book 'Fast like a Girl' and it has been a life-saver. I keep finding myself in a predicament: The week before my period I stop fasting and any hard workouts (I'm 34 with a regular cycle). The issue is, once I stop fasting I gain at least 5lbs the week leading up to my period. Then when my period starts and I jump back into fasting, I spend half of the month working off the 5lbs I gained leading up to my period. Any advice? Thank you!

Please let go of the scale it is the worst metric for overall health, stay the course! Adjust your portion sizes and the among of carbs you are eating if you are finding that you gain every nurture phase. Keep a food and reaction log. You cells store water along with glycogen and then release it when you go more keto. Overall this is a non issue it is long term fat loss you want to see and this is a long game. You are doing great!

Try to incorporate more fat if you can. The other is eat. 1200 calories has been the mantra of all weight loss strategies. Try upping your calories to about 2000. I’m talking good proteins and healthy vegetables. Try varying a day high in calories and then a day low cal 1200. You may be surprised. This may take a month or so. Experiment and don’t go hungry. Happy healthy journey.

I have your book “Fast Like a Girl”. I am nearly 52 and didn’t have a near regular cycle until I was in my late 30-late 40. I wish I had had your book then!!Now I am back to irregular cycles as I get closer to menopause. I was excited to use fasting with my cycle (started my IF journey with Dr Fung in 2018). Had some real success but rebounded last year. Started with your plan 2023 and then the long wait for my period to start to begin another fasting/feasting cycle. And waited and waited And finally! I can no longer depend on a regular period to build my fasting lifestyle around. I love to fast, to me it’s “easy”. Done lots of 24s and a few 36s and 72s over a 3-4 day work weekend ( I am a MLS so I work weekends which is perfect for long fasts) I find fasting works well with my work (busy and no time to eat during the day). It is a challenge to get fed before dark. And the stress and sleep especially (wake up often) are my biggest hurdles of all. If I could get those mastered, I think I could be successful. As an MLS I am all about the science and how our bodies are so terrifically complex. I love the work you and others are doing to help educate the world and tear down the lies we have been told about food, nutrition and exercise. Should I just do a 30 day reset every month? Pick a day to start? If I wait for my period to start it could be months! 💛

    • @DrMindyPelz
      @DrMindyPelz  Год назад

In the summer when it stays light until later in the evening, determining the best time to close your eating window can be a challenge. One approach is to establish a consistent eating window that works for you, regardless of the daylight hours. Prioritize consistency and stick to your chosen eating window, even during long summer days. Remember to listen to your body, honour hunger and fullness cues, and make adjustments as needed. Individual preferences may vary, so experiment to find what works best for you during the summer months.
