I just took your quiz and I've been dealing with chronic discomforts and pain with no answers for over 13 years. I scored almost all questions 😢. I'm in kenya, what tests do I ask my doctor for? Thank you so much for your help❤
I'm an hEDS patient, it seems to be something we live with, I've found a number of ways to avoid the Rx meds (I'm also allergic to a lot of drugs) as much as possible.
The medical system today is so bad that we all have to somehow become our own doctors. It's too much for me. Too many possible causes of every symptom. It's maddening.
I had to learn this on my own after a lifetime of severe daily anxiety and depression...I cut out food allergens, added a daily antihistamine and I've been miraculously cured for a year. It's incredible.
@user-sk2fw8jq3m zyrtec! But not just any zyrtec. I used the gel capsule because it does not contain lactose. All of the regular zyrtecs do. I have a bad histamine response to lactose. Not sure if you are in the USA but I specifically use the Walgreens brand of zyrtec. I tried to switch to the Walmart brand, and had an allergic reaction....the only difference in ingredients was that the Walmart brand contains BHA which is a nasty chemical.
@@notpanstarrsroblox16 Although Zyrtec blocks H1 and/or H2, it does not break down Histamine and that Histamine can then go on to fill your H3 and H4 receptors in the brain and nervous system, causing mental issues, as this video touched on. Be careful. Be educated. Histamine is used by the body to produce Chongroiten to help your joints function. Without histamine your body may start to break down eventually, especially if you exercise.
I was just reading about continuous and longterm use of antihistamines (non-specific) causing issues in brain health. I don't recall the doctor, but it's something to look into. I wonder if we'd get the same results from a homeopathic or holistic version 🤔
I have never heard of Excess Brain Histamine intolerance, Only familiar with the the word histamine when it comes to allergy relief. This is so interesting and informative. Thank You!
@@DrRichardHagmeyerdo you have a video on HOW: *Amino Acid Histidine* can support or heal *Hypochlorhydria* via supporting/as a precursor to the production of histamine in the stomach as part of the steps to produce stomach acid? I have Achlorhydria, so I am looking for anything to improve it...
@@1truthseeking8how do you say you have it. Asking because my son is suffering a logmt because of histamine and the doctors just dismiss it whenever i bring it up.
A lot of folks in the comments are asking what to do with excess histamine. Check if you are undermethylated and correct it via diet/supplementation. Proper methylation clears up excessive histamine from our bodies.
I’m allergic to everything and have been on a low histamine diet for months. The DOA has helped me a lot with the bloating on my low histamine diet. But no Drs around here know as much as Dr Hagmeyer
I’ve had an intense allergy season with this hectically blocked nose and itchy mouth/face/eyes for the last month and the allergy tablets weren’t working so yesterday I went to my doc for an allergy shot. So it’s something like cortisol steroids or something and lasts like 3 or 4 months. I used to have it often when I was a student because I was allergic to some grass or dust mite in my student town. Anyway I’ve always found that the day or two after the allergy shot I feel amazing. Like sluggish cognitive tempo and ADHD (AuDHD?) symptoms improve loads. Like sure it maybe keeps me awake a bit on the first night ruminating about exciting projects (I usually sleep like a baby even with mouth breathing). Hells I went for a walk and even my v02 max on my watch is 2 points higher. So yeah I’ve always figured there’s some link between allergies and cognition. Thanks for the vid!
Yes this what happens to many people, if you dont work with someone who looks at the BIG picture. Have you checked out some of my blogs on this topic? www.DrHagmeyercom
@@DrRichardHagmeyerSir, does it mean that - in general it's not a good idea that such people like us take anti-depressants instead of addressing the main problem with too high histamine levels in the brain?
I had a terrible withdrawal for months from Cymbalta -- I've never felt so unhinged -- took Benadryl antihistamine and was instantly okay. It was a dramatic and instantaneous shift.
Wait a minute... I'm trying to taper off of cymbalta at the time of this comment. I take a little bead out about every week or two. I'm only down 6 little beads atm. I'd love to know more about your experience with this
@@patrickwright4070 Hi - I tapered as per doc's instructions but maybe the way you're doing it, it won't be so intense. My symptoms: like every nerve was exposed and buzzing, electrical brain zaps, deep depression, lightening anger (like seriously it should be a mitigating factor in violent crimes), crazy dreams and terrible sleeps...probably more but I've blocked it out. It went on for about 3 months before I tried an antihistamine. I guess some people are helped by this drug but it's awful to withdraw from. Best of luck - there are many, many people out there who have gone through this.
i struggle with atrial fibrillation , palpitations, high and low blood pressure after eating histamine rich foods. i have been on low histamine diet for over a year and know which foods to avoid but still having at least two episodes a month and finding i react to new foods each month. dieticians have said its histamine intolerance but my doctor needs a proper diagnosis for sick leave as i cant work. so i was sent to immunologist. She laughed at me and said there is no such thing, it was a word bandied about back in the 80s and said i had no allergies. I said i know i have no allergies, its an intolerance , but she just went on saying she would prove i have no allergies and that its a heart problem , i should be with a cardiologist not immunologist.
I also have food intolerances and feel no One can help. All tests normal! Quit dairy, gluten, corn, grains. Did low FODMAP. Most carbs that are not meat or vegs give me rashes and can make me lethargic
The first allergist/immunologist my primary doctor sent me to was not on board with food intolerance/sensitivity and the 100 prick test on my back only returned one mild reaction. The subsequent doctor did a blood antigen test and a host of food and environmental tags popped up. I basically went to a high protein/paleo diet which helped tremendously. I seem to have become sensitive to foods. So I have put it down to histamine intolerant. Now I have very itchy eyes which I thought possibly high pollen levels. My body feels swollen, especially my arms. Also joint pains when I have a trigger. Sometimes my body feels warm/hit from inside. Please help. I live in the Netherlands and am 52 years old. I have an allergy for more than 20 years, but also sleeping problems at night and often extreme sleepiness during the day. September this year I went to Jakarta Indonesia, one of the most polluted cities in the world, and guess what, this whole month the allergy symptoms were gone. No burning eyes, no sneezing and runny nose, no itchy skin and I slept like a baby, despite the extreme noise of this city. All kind of things I thought of in the past - pollution, electro smog, cats - turned out to be not the problem. Is there a solution? (Other than moving to Indonesia)

So informative. Learning so much about this and this is yet another video that has helped me make connections. This won't be a popular statement, but coffee has played a huge part in this problem for me. Even though you didn't mention caffeine, it IS a drug and from what you're saying and the list of signs and symptoms of low dopamine, coffee has most definitely caused this in me. I've been saying that when I've been drinking coffee over a period of time, I get ADHD symptoms, can't focus, difficulty prioritizing, disorganized thinking. And then that makes me have low drive and motivation. When I stop the coffee, in about a week I'm ready to organize the stuff that got cluttered and disorganized while drinking coffee. I'm much more calm about life in general and my reactions to stressful stuff is less intense. Also coffee effects my digestion. I can't eat as much of a variety because I react to them with HI symptoms. but when I quit, that changes and my digestion gets better.
I recently started taking Benadryl morning and night and I felt amazing for 2-3 days. Lots of energy and motivation and also much clearer thinking. Sadly it was short lived and it faded. I still take the Benadryl but it’s not working as well.
Thank you so much!!!!!!!!! I've been taking a prescription antihistamine for histamine intolerance, and I swear I couldn't connect all the dots no matter how much research I did about it didn't all fit. Now the sleep cycle, leptin and failure to lower sugar and weight loss all make sense. I have had the intuitive swing to stop taking the pills but I couldn't figure out why. Thank you. I'll check out the other videos.

My Allergist said I was his Worse patient in 40 years and I still suffer!! I tried Steroids, shots, drops and never get relief! I discovered Histamines myself and I'm trying capsules to block as well as eliminate over making histamines. I cannot ever cheat by eating the wrong thing because the headache doesn't go away. Sometimes the histamine capsules help. I pray everyday for help! Your video was very interesting and informative. Benadryl and ibuprofen are bad for me but I sometimes get a lil relief.
Great video thanks! so if i understand this right then i need another type of DAO enzyme that digest the excess histamin in the brain since im suffering from severe insomnia. is that correct ? If so where can i get HNMT and MAOB enzyme that you mention in the video and is there a supplement that contain all 3 of them, DAO, HNMT and MAOB ? Or should i try DAO enzyme first that taget the histamin in the gut and see if that reduce my insomnia?
Nutrient cofactors for HNMT include lcopper, iron, B vitamins, vitamin C, SAMe, magnesium, manganese, cobalt, zinc, and molybdenum. These are all needed as cofactors to allow MAO-A and MAO-B DAO abd HNMTto work. I would also recommend following low Histamine diet for 3 months to see if symptoms improve, then work on all things “filling up the bucket!”
Thank you. This was very informative. I know I have challenges with histamine and possibly MCAS. I recently started a carnivore diet and seen improvements and also now I take Beef Kidney for the DAO. My main challenge remains flushes once in a while. Also at night, if our cat wakes me, I will flush and it will take 15 minutes to cool back down. I get pretty good itching on the front of my left shoulder and this usually has one tiny pin prick sore in the middle. I do not get hives unless you can get a single hive or maybe two close together. They are not bumps. I am improving, yet still puzzled.
Pulmonary Hypertension was suspected to be due to poor sleep as all other tests were negative. The cause could be Histamine intolerance as the symptoms match as described in the video. I suspect that high intake of chickpeas in breakfast over months led to higher histamine. The sleep quality improved with higher nutritive intake of banana, cur/yogurt which help better make the neurotransmitters. Thanks a ton for the missing link Dr Hagmeyer.
Hi Lisa Both MCAS and CIRS are very complex disorders that reach into many systems of body. Unfortunately, not something I can answer in a Format like this. I encourage you to reach out to my office to schedule a discovery call so we can discuss further.
Very well said about hnmt. I'm in various MTHFR groups in reddit and I've done a ton of research on hnmt/histamine and methylation. I suffer from various mutations that cause a very reduced methylation. This WILL 100% result in reduced hnmt function. Hnmt is the only thing that can break down/metabolise histamine in the brain. Moa-a enzyme further breakes down N-methylhistamine but its far less important than hnmt. Hnmt needs SAM-e as a co-factor to function. If your body's methylation is reduced then your SAM-e will be reduced as well. Resulting in an increase in brain histamine and all the issues that go along with having too much histamine in the brain. High histamine causes so many issues in the brain. It causes issues with the circadian rhythm. It triggers headaches via its actions on nmda receptors. It's involved in depression, anxiety, insomnia, sleep, Parkinsons.

Very understandable. Not familiar enough with narcolepsy and medications prescribed to treat it. I would look into testing neurotransmitters and genetic SNPS as it relates to NT and methylation.

It’s not that simple. I see a lot of people asking that question. This is a very complex problem. Your treatment needs to be personalized to you. There are many root causes- you need to find out what’s YOUR root causes. Work with a certified functional medicine doctor.
So how do you treat excess histamine in the brain and gut? You mention H blockers aren't enough and a low histamine diet isn't sustainable... So what do you do? You give no answer to this.
Fasting long enough to bring on autophagy is the best and really, the only way to repair the gut. Dr Paul Anderson has a video about this; he recommends at least a 5-day fast, water only.
I suggest you work with a certified functional medicine doctor. There is so much to histamine intolerance and MCAS. Most people are making themselves sicker!

Anxiety, low key mania, delusions, compulsions/perseveration/distortions, distrust and paranoia, ideas of reference, explosive self harm, inability to concentrate or learn easily, chaotic, disorganised, socially impaired. The gammut of medications, of which ONLY mirtazipine, olanzapine, and to a much lesser extent quetiapine actually treated my symptoms. But brought many side effects and issues both short and longer term. OTC godsend thank you loratadine does it so much better than the “psych” meds.

Wishing you all the best with your health -- I hope you find a solution.
My son has generalized epilepsy (severe) we were told benedryl and all antihistamines cause seizures. We took him off of it, he has awful allergies so he takes steroid nasal spray. Is there a test for histamine levels and mast cell levels?
Thank you for the information, I appreciate it since knowledge is power, and health is precious. Some years ago, I developed hives and angioedema (swelling of hands and left arm) due to a high intake of raw honey (mixed with organic full-fat yoghurt) -- which had soothed me during a time of emotional stress. The high histamine level was probably the result of a severe copper deficiency because of the high intake of fructose day after day. The copper deficiency might have caused a low level of the DAO enzyme. Unfortunately, I can't remember how the high histamine level affected my brain.
lower the amino acid histidine which turns into histamine. lower protein intake dramatically lowers histamine.......but it takes time. Eat a small amount of meat......no need to be unnecessarily bulked up.
You sure can! Their are 4 main Histamine receptors. H1,2,3,4. Itching/hives is associated with the H1 receptor. H2,3,4 are heart, neurological tissues, gut, lungs,
This is so bloody interesting! It sounds a lot like my ADHD symptoms?! What if I actually don’t have ADHD and I actually have an imbalance or intolerance to histamine 😮

I DO respect an MD who is willing to have a patient attempt Alternative diet vs. straight to medication!! I would question those intolerant may have a genetic Polymorphism that would cause problems with that much protein (ie Methionine). These diets help many remedy their GI problems.

Very interesting! I did not realize histamine was so complicated.

How do I get excess histamine out of my brain and my body ?
Pulmonary Hypertension was suspected to be due to poor sleep as all other tests were negative. The cause could be Histamine intolerance as the symptoms match as described in the video. I suspect that high intake of chickpeas in breakfast over months led to higher histamine. The sleep quality improved with higher nutritive intake of banana, cur/yogurt which help better make the neurotransmitters. Thanks a ton for the missing link Dr Hagmeyer.

I always have red spots on my body that migrate throughout months across different places on my skin. If it gets too difficult, I use mometason creams etс. How bad is it for me to have constant inflammation like this and is it possiblw to cure this allergy by obtaining from allergen for some time?
Chronic inflammation is a culprit in all diseases. You need to get it under control and needs to be a major focus!
Thanks for educating me on the effect of histamine on brain. Now, what can you use in place of histamine if you have allergy problems?
Here’s some suggestions

It’s a high histamine food. You most likely have histamine issues already and that just added to your load.
Is there any supplements to raise low histamine? My histamine is low as well as norepinephrine and epinephrine and serotonin. I have sleep issues and reaction time very slow. Mood is low anxiety all day. Feeling like I can’t balance my body. Any advice?

Sir is there a time to take these supplements individually? Like histadine? Or how long too take it? With food or at night? Thanks for responding. Really appreciate it.
My odor causes others to have allergic symptoms like sneezing, coughing, and runny noses. Could this be related to the release of excessive histamine from my skin? I also have lesions in my brain, so I’m wondering if there might be a connection.
It takes a long time to detox, lower the hyperactive systems and heal. It's impossible to heal in a chronically stressed state. The sympathetic [fight or flight] dominant state, prevalent in modern societies, changes many chemical pathways to deal with the stress, real or perceived. Sleep, where cleaning and repair takes place, is hampered. Sleep, relaxation, rejuvenation, procreation happens in the parasympathetic portion/phase on the autonomous nervous system. Moreover, it appears that he 'blue zones' lead a more calm, low stress, life which contributes to their longer life span.

Some foods have more histamines than other foods. I am histamine intolerant. Even some left over foods will have risen histamines.
@@vallang4832 very true but ingested foods have more to do with histamine and DAO enzyme in gut, for histamine issues in brain we’re talking about HNMT enzyme. Foods high in histamine have little to do with this HNMT.
For patients who struggle with food and metal health it might be other biogenic amines in foods causing problems.

Take DAO enzyme with high histamine meals. It breaks it down.

I'm a layperson, but I'm wondering whether you might have nutritional deficiencies. But genetics might also play a role, I guess.
@@alrinaleroux9229 how do you reach that conclusion based on what I wrote?
@@CS-os5pt I'm a layperson. I just thought that there must be a cause for health problems. In my case I had severe hives and angioma (my hands and left arm became swollen) because a high long-term intake of honey (emotional eating) led to a mineral deficiency.
One of these minerals seems to have been copper, since copper is needed for the MAO enzyme, which helps to control histamine levels in the body (all this I found on the Internet -- I was misdiagnosed by an intelligent but inexperienced and overworked young doctor at A& E at the hospital. They didn't have time to do tests and just gave me cortisone.
She said I'm allergic to bee products, but it turned out that wasn't the case.
I took a copper supplement but used only one quarter of a tablet at a time (per day) because it can irritate and even damage the kidneys.
I continued with the honey (combined with organic yoghurt), thinking that I could just use mineral supplements. I wasn't careful enough. There are other trace minerals that I didn't supplement with, and now I'm struggling with eye problems.
I've stopped with the honey and I'm trying to get back to normal by being a lot more careful about what I consume.
Wishing you all the best with your health, I hope you find a solution.

Some years ago, I developed severe hives and swollen hands -- eventually my left arm also became swollen, due to a high histamine level.
It turned out that it was due to my long-term habit of regularly eating copious amounts of honey and organic yoghurt. It seems the fructose caused mineral depletion.

IgE total
Leukotriene E4 if you suspect MCAS

Some years ago, I developed hives and angioedema (swelling of hands and left arm) due to a high intake of raw honey (mixed with organic full-fat yoghurt) -- which had soothed me during a time of emotional stress.
The high histamine level was probably the result of a severe copper deficiency because of the high intake of fructose day after day. The copper deficiency might have caused a low level of the DAO enzyme. Unfortunately, I can't remember how the high histamine level affected my brain.
I feel like when I have an allergy attack in spring I feel high appetite even before I take the antihistamind
Histamine can affect hunger signaling and leptin.
