Wow look at the self-deprecation and the humor, as well as the intelligence and the respect for the press. Then wake up and see what we are dealing with now!! Arggggggg
I miss having an intelligent President of honor, morality, integrity, decency, dedication, wisdom, humility, humanity, humbleness, very easy on the eye & just a damned good sport. Godspeed, Dear President & Mrs. Obama ❤️
Coming back to this in November 2022. This 2009 event was my fourth Correspondents Dinner on C-SPAN. I watched it and the previous, sporadic three to check out how the comedians did (Al Franken in '96, Jay Leno in 2004, Craig Ferguson in 2008). After Obama's piece, I became more interested in what the President would say, and watched each year until he left the White House. The Obama years were a kind of 'golden age' for this event, and I'm sure the people who get those invites and actually attend will testify to that. The recordings are still fun to watch all these years later.
This is how you act presidential at a first white House Correspondence Dinner. True class. POTUS Barack Obama. Donald Trump? No class in any possible way.
Objectively speaking, The US is very fortunate to have such a well-educated, intelligent and articulate person as a head of the state. Such a stark contrast to his dim-witted predecessor, as well as potential successors
This man is hilarious when he should be funny, Awesome when he should be good, and genius when he needs to be smart. I have to admit he is the only thing about america that makes me jealous. I wish he was our Prime Minister.
So very well said. Perfect description on president Obama and said his first year in office. Just listened to 2022 Georgia’s election rally and your words just perect
It's just so reassuring and gives me so much confidence for the future to finally see someone of his intelligence and experience to be pulling the strings of both America and, indeed, the World. I'm excited to see what Obama's years in power have to offer.
Rahm is know for being colorful in his language. He especially likes to follow the word 'mother' with a word that starts with f and rhymes with sucker.
Listen to 1:40 - 1:47 into the feed: I am Barack Obama. Most of you covered me. ALL of you voted for me. Then 10 full seconds of uproarious laughter and applause. Then @ 1:57: Apologies to the FOX table. 9 more seconds of applause.
"Finally, I believe that my next 100 days will be so successful that I will be able to complete them in 72 days, and on the 73rd day I will rest." Laughter is just what we need. Thanks Obama!
You should be all proud to have such an articulate president who has so much charisma. Even in troubled times he can get up and make a speech like this full of humour. I doubt our pime minister can he comes across as so miserable and serious all the time.
haha man you people in America have a leader to be proud of. I dunno if it's just the speech writers but either way this is some funny shit and a very welcome break from what I normally see from the USA. The best bit is that the jokes are all close to the bone, confident and funny, and I think that reflects a part of American society very well.
How refreshing to have not only an intelligent, young president of the United Sates that is efficient in getting the disastrous policies and wrongs of the previous asministration righted almost immediately but to find that he also has a sense of humour, is able to make fun of himself and does not treat the rest world as inferior to the US. I wish him luck.
People are afraid of change and it brings out the worst in human nature. The man has the potential to be the greatest President in my generations lifetime.
OK, here's my opinion, with all objectivity: it was excellent. Nobody can deny that Bush has an excellent sense of humour, but so does Obama. I thoroughly enjoyed this speech.
the United States began to decline after George W. Bush left office. Some common criticisms of his presidency include the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, economic downturn, and the 2008 financial crisis. Additionally, the implementation of policies like the USA Patriot Act, which was passed shortly after the September 11 attacks, has been criticized for its impact on civil liberties.
If you look at the national debt, they were all contributed by Republican adminsitrations. The difference with Democrats and Republcians is that Democrats spends alot domestically, but domestic spending boosts the overall U.S economy. Republicans give large tax cuts & have large military spendings. So cut hte crap about Republicans & saving the U.S because hte debt problem has awlays been a problem created by Republicans. National Debt since Reagan skyrocketed because of the flawed reaganomics.
He tore the Republicans up in this speech and as an Independent I like him much more than I did before watching this video. Another thing...I hear Bin Laden is dead. Obama has been pulling us out of Iraq and focusing on Afghanistan and now Bin Laden is dead even though Bush couldn't get it done during his entire presidency. Obama may just clean up all of the mess Bush left behind.
It is wonderfull to see that this is genuine democracy, this is who people are, we are not the great Satin we are nice people that have a sense of humour
I'm already starting to miss this man. An unforgettable character!
Shut up you ignorant Democrat.
I’m joking. Chill.
o man i miss him so much
good that biden is back. pls let him name barack as an adviser

John Fitzgerald Kennedy made that mark
@@markcharbonneau7529 Maybe this person wasn't alive during the time of John F. Kennedy.
I’m with you right there. I miss the intelligence of both president.
Obama's speeches will go down in history.

Watching this in 2020, oh god how much I miss your words
Wow what a concept...a president who understands and respects the importance of journalism/the media!
Yeah I know refreshing wasn’t it
'dedicated men and women journalists not short on talent, creativity, passion or commitment'. What a class act.
EVERYTHING HE DOES IS SO WONDERFUL AND LOVING.
A president who appreciates the press and recognizes their importance...I miss this.

"Mother's Day....this is a tough holiday for Rahm Emmanual. He's not used to saying the word 'day' after mother". I love that joke.
I am already starting to miss him....
+az7500 Why?
Objectively speaking, The US is very fortunate to have such a well-educated, intelligent and articulate person as a head of the state. Such a stark contrast to his dim-witted predecessor, as well as potential successors
He makes the comedians' job hard because he's actually competent and likable.
@MikeNobody holy shlt ur comments 14 yrs old that’s f’n crazyy
So glad I'm alive to witness history as it happens.
Simply the best. Such an eloquent speaker. I miss him.
Good writing, good performance.
I give it five stars.
He looks so much younger wow..
He gave up a part of himself in order to serve the people
BEST President we ever had !!
Nono. But definitely one of the most talented
"Mother's Day....this is a tough holiday for Rahm Emmanual. He's not used to saying the word 'day' after mother". I love that joke.
He looks so young!
It's really weird seeing all of the republican and democratic party leaders being civil, and in the same room.
He has such a great sense of humor...
I'm supporting you Obama... :) 4 more years...
The greatest president in a long long time...

There is no doubt that Barack Obama is hilarious. He is a natural. I love to listen to these correspondence dinners. He holds very little back.
a year later, and i still love this man.
I love that our POTUS has a great sense of humor. KUDOS Mr. President - great job!
A president that agrees with right to a free press and agrees it's their right to hold him and government accountable
Michelle actually hasn't aged a day.
Just came here from his final one. Fully agree.
She really hasn't. He went totally grey, though.
President is under lot of stress no wonder he is getting old
I am so in love w/ this man!!!!!
A president who wasn't afraid to laugh at himself.
God, I miss that.
I don't care what anyone says Obama was a great president not like the coward Donald chump didn't even show up
It's just so reassuring and gives me so much confidence for the future to finally see someone of his intelligence and experience to be pulling the strings of both America and, indeed, the World. I'm excited to see what Obama's years in power have to offer.
Thank you C-Span. Obama is such a charming man ^_^
Rahm is know for being colorful in his language. He especially likes to follow the word 'mother' with a word that starts with f and rhymes with sucker.
You Americans should all be proud of your charismatic and intelligent President!
Greeting from Germany
Obama killed it, definitely the funniest monologue I've ever seen a president give.

The John Boehner joke absolutely killed it, holy shit

Obama had great respect for our free press the greatest asset democratic society can have
This is the best speach of a politician i've ever seen. Wow....
Respect and greeting from old Europe, Germany ;-)
Trump will NEVER be funny at these dinners.
Ann Frazier President Trump will never BE at these dinners. You know how he is with the press.
you're right!
BUT add to that the fact that he has NO sense of humor!
Trump lacks intellect.
He won't even go to one lmao
God I miss this man…..how lucky we were
looking forward to the return of these now with a president who isn't a child.
its a prompter, they shoot lasers at it and the speaker can see the text. They are sometimes used for closed captioning at movie theaters and such.
Such a beautiful ending!

At the end, a standing ovation. Bravo!
A President with a good sense of humor!
You have to remember, the bar isn't set overly high in the first place.

That Rush Limbaugh line was baaaaarilliant.
I love him. that's it.
How can you not like the guy? I don't like his policies but the guy is charismatic as hell
I wonder when we'll see Obama performing on Saturday Night Live xD

once upon a time there was a president that actually appreciated the press n spoke full sentences with a sense of humor- corona virus quarantine 2020

What was the joke about Rahm Emmanuel about at 3:45. Can someone explain that joke? It got a loud applause.
Okay but seriously I didn't get some of these jokes. Can anyone link to a site that breaks it down? I can't find anything
