Bret Michael's from the band "Poison" worked there as a kid in the summer. He lived in Butler, PA but would spend summers at his Aunt's house in Ligonier to see his cousins.

@@WallieB26 Unfortunately, I have some bad news to tell you. The township has rejected a plan to reopen the pool. So that means no more swimming pool. But they're not giving up on the site. There are bigger plans coming there, we just don't know what it will be yet. And I wouldn't call this place abandoned, the township is taking care of the site.

This is incredible! This is my kind of Urbex. It's places like this where the memories live. You can almost hear the sounds of kids laughing and playing having a good time. There's a certain sadness and peaceful feeling you get almost like there's a connection even though personally I've never been here. I'm sure many of the locals have fond memories here.

I spent many summers as a kid here when I'd come from Connecticut to stay with family nearby. I had no idea it closed! Sad, but cool to see that you were able to get in there. That one last scene at 24:34 of the entire area flooded pretty much told the whole story re: the demise of this place. Great vid!

Aww. That is such a shame it is closed. I only went there once, but I can remember driving by several times on our way to and from laurel caverns. It was ALWAYS empty looking, even on hot summer days. I love that area PA, it is beautiful, especially in fall. Great video!

Crossroads Diner. Ligoneer Beech. Whalom Park. It makes me want to cry to see all the stuff in Rick Seback's documentaries go out of business. Seeing the proximity to the creek though, I'm honestly surprised this place lasted as long as it did knowing what happened to the YMCA in Upper Saint Clair.

Well hon I really enjoyed your tour of this beach how fun it reminded me of Saratoga that we had here in Utah in the 60s and 70s that eventually went into disrepair when the lake flooded but it had a really cool wicked slide like the one that was in this photo that would never go today that’s for sure but talk about how fun back in the day that was a really steep slide too but I bet the kids absolutely loved it in the day and talk about that ring of all those cool cars going around wow that was wild you did a Really Great job filming this...🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥📽📽📽📽📽📽📽📽📽📽📽📽🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎞🎞🎞🎞🎞🎞🎞🎞🎞🎞🎞❤️

Like many, good memories. Going there a very special treat in the 50's. I haven't read all the comments but one feature was a big flat wheel sitting at an angle to the water, flat on top and pipe work underneath to hang onto as it circled in and out of the water. Memories thanks for vid! NM Fran

Remember hearing about serious flood damage shutting it down.So sad it never cleaned up and reopened.Had 3 places just like it in NE.Ohio that also closed but for liability insurance reason being too high due to lawsuits.💸💼 Holiday Sands in Ravenna,Lake Plata in Macedonia and Fell Lake in Sagamore Hills where I grew up.All gone, loved spending the day at these private big pool parks close to home Fell Lake I could walk to and Lake Plata was a bike ride away.So when we were old enough could go without parental supervision all day back in the days when you and all the other kids could during summer break.🏖Grateful I grew up in 60s Thru 70s carefree freedom.🤗

Hey brother, just seen your video. Thanks for doing that and bringing back a lot of old memories. I lived in Ligonier as a boy growing up and we would frequent this pool 2 to 3 times a week with my family. A friend of mine was actually an owner of it and his parents would allow us to come there and swim for free :-) I would say the main thing that destroyed Ligonier Beach is the extreme climatic weather that they experience regularly. The pool can actually only be open for around 4 months a year leaving income to be difficult. Not to mention the river right behind it continually flooding. Perhaps a redesign / reconstruction could bring back this historical monument! I can't believe it's sold for only $230,000. That's the average Market house price where I live in North Carolina now period for a commercial property such as this I would expect millions. Anyway it's great video and thanks for sharing

Wallie .. i like all ur vids very much .. but this one probably the most, since its a place I grew up going to. I'm from CT but used to spend summers with family out in Ligonier and we spent hours every single day there for years. I had no idea it even closed until I saw your vid. You did an outstanding job on this one, including the history as well as your own footage. Depressing as hell to see the condition it's in now, though. I had no idea all that damage happened. Thanks for doing this one ... very cool, though sad, to see. I want you to come up to New England some time and do some exploring up here.

At least it is going to be opened someday. I found out it was bought and they are going to be fixing it up and soon people will be able to keep their traditions alive. I was so happy to hear all this. But the pool will not be opened this summer but maybe next summer? But they are working on things and you will be able to go there just no swimming. I am hoping that next year the pool will be open and that I can come and visit the biggest pool I have ever seen. But I will keep checking to see how things are going they have already removed 10 dead trees, and I am sure there is going to be more stuff done to it this summer. If you live around there plz keep me up to date on if the pool is opened yet or not. Great video thanks it got me wanting to go.

All the door hardware looks very new . So someone spent a few bucks recently and installed it . Was that asphalt used to patch up the middle portion of the pool ? That pool would be a HUGE job to fix with cracks in the concrete and pool mechanisms would have to be renewed . Did they charge for parking or any other type of admission fee? By the looks of it, all the buildings would have to be renovated and some sort of flood protection possibly considered .
A big job indeed . You've got to be careful walking up into these rickety old buildings !

  • @TheEASDelta
    @TheEASDelta 5 лет назад +3

Aw shit, I had no idea the place been shut down since 2017 on account of floods and arson. I used to go there once back in... I want to say somewhere between the late 2000s and 2010, can't remember exactly when I went, but when my step pap took me, my younger brother and cousin there as part of our 'mystery trips' where our step pap would take us someplace as a surprise. I remember then the place was still pretty booming with a lot of people then in summer.
I actually live 10-20 miles east of Ligonier near Jennerstown so I would pass this place often if we were heading out toward Pittsburgh along Rt. 30.
Sucks to see the place has since closed 2017. Would've probably still been in good business had it not been for arson and the two floods that hit the place.
At least Idlewild Park, just five minutes from Ligonier Beach, is still a good destination to go too and enjoy the Soak Zone they have there. Funny how this place managed to be in business while Idlewild was nearby and would be as busy during the summer season.

It must have been awfully tempting to take some mementos from there. That's an old Yuengling sign, from the days before they created their popular Lager. Some writing in French on the Molson sign. I doubt you would see that today. There was a public pool outside of Johnstown called Liberty. It's been closed a long time. When my mom was a kid, long ago, Charles Bronson was a lifeguard there.
