We got gas here in June 2001. One of my cousins found a rock that's shaped like a baby skull in the Best Western parking lot. That summer is truly forgotten now.
I live near a citco and it closed about 4 months ago and then it was abandoned and I thought, hey wallieb26 you will like this, until it opened again and it was an Exxon then because I saw papers that were printed "Exxon" & ripped off the citco sign and painted Exxon on it, now I have three Exxons!
I finally got to catch up on all your videos, took me 4 months almost non-stop... I can't wait to see what's next, I'm sad that I have now to wait for your next videos! Keep the good work coming!
Back in the early 1970s there eas a Mobil station across Rt.30 from the intersection of I70 in Breezewood. It was a major drug distribution center in the area because of the confluence of Rt 30, I70 and the Pa Turnpike. I don't remember what year it happened but there was a major drug bust at that Mobil station that was supposedly the largest drug bust in that part of Pennsylvania up to that time. Lots of trash got arrested and convicted.
I went to an abandoned ames out in collins, ny last week, Wallie! I love your channel. You inspired me to check out abandoned buildings, too. I do not go inside of them because I do not want to get sick from the black mold and other hazardous materials inside the stores.
If they finally get around to making a proper connection between I-70 and the PA Turnpike, then there might be a lot more abandoned services in Breezewood. Supposedly keeping the travelers' services in operation is the "reason" a proper Interstate-to-Interstate connection does not occur in Breezewood.
No direct connection of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Interstate 70 is ever likely to occur. The project would have to be first proposed by the local entity to get into statewide plans. Considering that traveler activity at Breezewood is a major source of tax revenue for mostly impoverished Bedord County -- it would be improbable they would move to divert those travelers away via a direct connection,
It is pretty old for sure. Our dishwasher is too. Both work perfectly though! Since, we rent there isnt anything we can do. Otherwise I would get modern items
Fun fact for you that hotel caught fire back in February 2019. I forget the name but that's why its fenced off. A holiday inn is going to be built there as soon as construction can resume.
Interesting location. I've never seen two or more gas-stations within walking distance from each other. Americans are used to healthy competition, and choosing where to fill up the car, Why I'm a so amazed by that? haha.
Where I used to live there were two Marathon gas stations directly across the street and where I live now there are two Circle Ks across the street from each other
I used to drive through breezewood going to and from college in the raised middle finger that is northern West Virginia, way back in the late 1980s. Back then there was a really seedy place outside of the main town, along a service road off to the right along the southbound I70 spur maybe a mile from where 70 hits the main drag. I think it was a strip club. We used to joke that it was, at least. It might have just been a windowless dive bar. I wonder if it's still standing. I doubt it is still open if it is.
It's so weird to see this, because whenever I me and my family would travel to Maryland, we would stop through Breezewood first and go to this very gas station and every once in a while, go to the Taco Bell. Seeing this gas station being abandoned now or closed is just weird for me to see.
i stopped there in my travels to Maryland from Ohio as well. I dont remember Gateway plaza having exxon gas before though. Must of combined businesses i think
As you may know, the gap in the Turnpike exists because Breezewood has flatly refused to have the gap filled in, so traffic is forced to use US-30. The abandoned section did bypass the area.
Some more context on the Exxons: The Exxon shown in this video closed around 2012. The other Exxon was open until around 2018/2019, which was around the time that Gateway became an Exxon itself.
You could spend a week in Breezewood! I remember as a kid how exciting it was to get to breezewood going to the beach and then being excited cause I was 2 hrs from home!
there's a radioshack still open in Gatlinburg, TN. had a picute of it on my phone but accidentally deleted it. How i know, looking for somewhere to start a new life with my family. Stopped at a Family Dollar and right next to it was the radioshack.
I got stuck in breeze wood about 20 years ago on my way to century 3 mall, long story lol. I remember getting behind a bus and the children of the corn getting off that bus and just staring at us. Man that was so creepy lol
The branding on the station is Exxon/Esso; the white-on-red Convenience Store sign is a dead giveaway. "Out of Service - Line Break" means there's no power to the interface box in the back room -(Gilbarco Pump tech for 10 years)
It turns out the hotel you mentioned caught fire and after that they called quits and closed. I'm pretty sure it was a econo lodge and it burned in Jan or Feb 2019
I have a couple Exxons still going near me. Do have a couple abandoned gas stations, but pretty sure none are exxon. That sign on the road next to the pumps looks to have a TB arch... Hmmmm (lol jus saw it in the video). Looking at the 2007 street view, both Exxons still appear to have been open simultaneously!
EXXON stations would call their stores Tiger Mart. Much better than during the day at some places you took video of, nice the lights are on. The red border says this was a EXXON, you have that right Wallie.
This Exxon I use to deliver coca cola to all these stores back in the late 90's when Breezewood was bustling as of now this building is gone and construction is being done on this property now as I drove by there yesterday, also the store across the street the "sacs" store is now closed as well as the flying J. Let me just say when I delivered coca cola in Breezewood back in the 90's all those places was open it was nothing for me to put off 800 cases of soda twice a week just in that little strip and now other than sheetz and gateway there really isn't nothing there... ps next time your in the area drive up past the old flying j and the building behind is what use to be the post house bus terminal it has been closed for years now but might be an interesting explore for you! Thanks for the video and entertainment
sure looks like an Exxon station to me also ,,,yeah breezewood always seemed busy whenever I got thru that area...sure seems funny how a lot of the places you film still have lights on ….wonder who pays for that ?..anyway thanks for posting ,,,you are helping me get thru this virus crap you and Kayla take care
Wow your gas is still really expensive. Here in Maine it’s down to the 1.80s for regular and 1.70s for diesel. In the summer it usually gets too over 3 dollars because of the tourism.
OK here’s how a gas station works an individual like Stuckey‘s express owns the gas station they have a percolator of fuel which would be Exxon Phillips 66 chevron and many more fuel providers so they’re not just Exxon stations Phillips 66 you have like you said Stuckey‘s express you have the neighboring gas station That gets it fuel through Exxon I just have many fuel providers
Wallie if you come across more abandoned service stations please notify the companys who the stations banner is under because according to the companys ive spoken to its against company policy to leave a station unsecured meaning not boarded up . if you send the companys offices an email with the exact address of the station they will contact the local area rep who will then do whats needed to secure the property like boarding it up removing the pumps . because at least shell say its against their policy to leave stations unsecured .
if memory is correct........the motel had a fire i believe....end of 2018 i believe could be wrong......the towns nickname use to be "gastown" it was an Exxon. Ive gotten gas there before. i dont remember gateway having exxon before though
So I guess if you missed a Shell or Exxon gas station then there's one 1 min away. lol I found it interesting that they're right next to each other. I wonder if they are the same price?
Wallie, funny thing (besides the fact Exxon still has a station next door to the abandoned one) is that this station still has the same format (pumps and everything) our local Esso stations in Puerto Rico used to have when they sold their stations here in 2006. Esso came to the Island as Standard Oil of Indiana in 1895 (PR was still a Spanish colony then) to sell KEROSENE in the Old Port of San Juan (today La Puntilla in the Old City) and were "KICKED OUT OF THE ISLAND" in 2006 as the Gov't of Puerto Rico couldn't pay U$1.05 Mln owned for the gas and stuff police cars and other Gov't vehicles consumed. Stations were sold to Total Petroleum, a French-owned oil company. PS: In The States Esso was the brand mostly used for a while (replacing Standard) until the 1970's when they finally adopted the Exxon name there...
I know when I lived in NJ they had 2 Exxon stations across from each other in multiple spots on RT 22 To capture traffic on both sides of the highway. I imagine it was more difficult to turn around in those days.
It's possible the EXXON may have moved next to this former EXXON. Thank you for sharing Wallie & Kayla. I've always liked Texaco but now we don't have any for past few years plus I also like Shell which I could tell the difference for some reason but now we don't have Shell as well & my other I like which we have is Phillips 66 (Phillips/Conoco).
That’s not uncommon especially in Alabama to have two stations that close together. Years ago my grandparents lived in Boaz Al it had two Texaco’s and two Amaco’s and both Amaco’s were within walking distance of each other. And in the next town over they have two BP’s and two She’ll stations that’s really not that uncommon from where I’m from.
That is quite something, all those abandoned places within such short distance of each other. Around here, the abandoned places are all scattered around. Saw a couple comments about the fire in that hotel, and it reminded me of the old former Howard Johnson (hotel and restaurant) that was located in Albany, NY, just off of NYS Thruway Exit 23. Happened back in July of '17. Place had long been vacant, at least ten years prior. The fire was the last straw for the place, though it took them like...a year, year and a half, before the place was finally demolished. Now the property has been partially redeveloped. A Sonic drive-in opened there shortly before this virus mess started, a Sport Clips is planned to open in the future (would likely have opened by now, under normal circumstances), and a BIG new hotel is being built in the back. That's one long abandoned place that no longer stands, but I know some others that still do, that I haven't mentioned yet to date. A grocery store (a video of it is on YT)...a car dealership who's showroom was repurposed as a thrift store, then closed...and abandoned Hess station...as well as one remaining abandoned Toys R Us (the other two have been converted into different stores). Great video, as usual. Can't wait for the next one!
2:51 love the picture with the old Taco Bell sign the old Denny’s style store and more older style stuff like the Pizza Hut and Walmart truck
We got gas here in June 2001. One of my cousins found a rock that's shaped like a baby skull in the Best Western parking lot. That summer is truly forgotten now.
That is a Marathon now. No more an abandoned Exxon.
You have great videos didn’t realize how many places have closed up
I like your videos thank you
Good video wallie

Strange that they left the pumps behind.
there is an abandoned motel there also right by the freeway called bel air..
Great one man love it
I've always to head out to this part of PA. Road trip soon maybe this year.
I went to an abandoned ames out in collins, ny last week, Wallie! I love your channel. You inspired me to check out abandoned buildings, too. I do not go inside of them because I do not want to get sick from the black mold and other hazardous materials inside the stores.

You know there’s a Quiznos subs on that corner se that truck over there wallie
That stove in Wallie’s kitchen. Makes me think 1960s.
It is pretty old for sure. Our dishwasher is too. Both work perfectly though! Since, we rent there isnt anything we can do. Otherwise I would get modern items
I just noticed that that sheetz up the hill From next-door at the Breezewood PA area noticed was a Perkins restaurant that had to be abandoned
R.I.P. Exxon
Fun fact for you that hotel caught fire back in February 2019. I forget the name but that's why its fenced off. A holiday inn is going to be built there as soon as construction can resume.
I don't think a holiday Inn is goin tnere..there's one across the road..I live 10 min from there
I think That Inn Is Called EconoLodge
I believe it was a econo lodge.
Love these videos.
I top off at Midway on the turnpike just to skip Breezewood and then can stop at Annapolis.
Interesting location. I've never seen two or more gas-stations within walking distance from each other. Americans are used to healthy competition, and choosing where to fill up the car, Why I'm a so amazed by that? haha.

I need to go to Breezewood for the abandoned turnpike one of these days.
I see Geoffrey in the background in the video I have that same one
Love your videos

Exxon has been open in Montgomery Alabama

Dope exxon.

"Out of Service - Line Break" means there's no power to the interface box in the back room -(Gilbarco Pump tech for 10 years)
It's been a good 3-4 years since I drove on the PA turnpike thru Breezewood. I see they are still gouging folks for gas and snacks.
I like to bike the Abandoned pa turnpike bike trail right by Breezewood
it’s now a marathon gas
2.77??? 1.69 here in St. Louis.
A Tiger in your Tank...
Here in my part of Kansas, our prices are right now $1.31
$0.99-$1.30 here in Metro Detroit
WallyB you really shouldnt pull on the front doors. They could still be alarmed! The cops might show up.
Gas prices are currently below $ 2.00 a gallon / when was this taped????????????? ( I’m from South Florida - north palm beach county area Florida)
They have always done this at Breezewood. If you are on the turnpike and need to gas up or buy a snack they gouge you.
Is this area a popular spot for truckers stop and rest? I've never heard of an interstate highway coming to an intersection.
@corey Babcock A friend of mine used to refer to the Flying J as the Fucking A.
yea thats was a old Exxon. from how it looks, & the pumps are blue. cool to see
It turns out the hotel you mentioned caught fire and after that they called quits and closed. I'm pretty sure it was a econo lodge and it burned in Jan or Feb 2019
I have a couple of race cars that says Exon on it. I remember we had a few Exon’s where I live, they got bought out by different gas stations.
Wow, talk about a ton of gas stations!
I loved Radio Shack, but it was always too expensive for me.
EXXON stations would call their stores Tiger Mart. Much better than during the day at some places you took video of, nice the lights are on. The red border says this was a EXXON, you have that right Wallie.

I passed a gas station the other day where it was 99 cents a gallon!!
7 gas station and propably 7 different prices for unleaded.

Poor wallie no taco bell lmao.
Both exxons and denny's owned by same people. Both exxons were open at same time.

Breezewood the home of abandoned businesses
ain’t short of choice petrol station in the area!

Maybe the Taco Bell and ExxonMobil were owned by the same landowner.
So I guess if you missed a Shell or Exxon gas station then there's one 1 min away. lol I found it interesting that they're right next to each other. I wonder if they are the same price?
Things ain't eazy in the breezy. I like Exxon, my town used to have 4 of them, now there's none.
Is Exxon and Esso the same company ?
could you explore a abandoned bradlees department store?
You really have high gas prices at over $2.00 per gallon. Here in Michigan we're paying around $1.35 for regular.
They always jack up the gas prices at the turnpike/freeway exits like Breezewood.
Wallie, funny thing (besides the fact Exxon still has a station next door to the abandoned one) is that this station still has the same format (pumps and everything) our local Esso stations in Puerto Rico used to have when they sold their stations here in 2006.

There is an Exxon that has been closed since 2019 in New Stanton
