The Real Reason Why Prince Philip Didn't Live With The Queen

- Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip first laid eyes on each other at a family wedding when the queen was only a child, and when they next saw each other in their teenage years, it was reportedly love at first sight. The two were married at Westminster Abbey in 1947, thus beginning the longest-running royal marriage in the history of the British monarchy.
So why did they live in separate houses?
Late in his life, Prince Philip moved into a cottage at Sandringham, where he spent his last years reading, painting, and cooking. Meanwhile, the queen stayed at Buckingham Palace. What caused this royal split? Here's the real reason Prince Philip didn't live with the queen.

From The Queen's "own words"He was her confident, her advisor, her strength, and many more positive words. He was the Love of her life. She was lost with out him,and his death was her largest grief.
That is why she went so fast after.
She is hardly going to say negative stuff in the public eye. The Royals basically never say personal negative stuff
We can tell how close they were by the amount of children they had and how quickly she deteriated after he passed away. Their souls must be so closely knitted.
Confidante.
@@nadiar.7788 That's the French version of the English equivalent. Probably used because of the French invasion in 1066 which over threw the then British King Harold to be replaced by the French William of Normandy.
He was a hard-working Royal. Yes, the top nine do work hard.
He was also an accomplished naval officer, pilot, warrior, and all around badass. You wouldn't want to tangle with His Royal Highness.
Give him the respect he earned.
It's an insult to call Prince Philip "a stay at home dad". He went on over 20,000 royal engagements in his life. He was involved in many charities. He was his own man.
He did but had a note from the queen where to go 😁
@@MrCodgod666 he got away with so much....Deeside...
I think he was a very good man, all the scandalous , nasty speculation about his character were destroyed when people saw the funeral and simplicity he requested.
He was born on Mouse Island at Corfu , and though a Prince, he liked a simple
life and was inwardly quite shy and humble. Prince Philip could have had a brilliant Naval career but chose a woman , the woman he loved, who happened to be Elizabeth at the time ! They were very devoted to each other .
@@valerieobrien5521Whatever about being devoted to each other, they certainly were related to one another.

I think the queen’s will to live declined significantly after he passed away. This is common.

Couldn’t be truer. Baby love never dies
I mean she was 96 lol
She was 96 ! 🙄
He had a promising Naval career but he left it to become the consort. Calling him a stay at home husband is an insult. He was way more than what we can imagine. Please don’t disrespect him.
He would've been a penniless former royal of dubious vintage if he hadn't had the spectacular good fortune if catching the princess' eye. He got a life of ease and luxury. A sexist, he couldn't bear to play second fiddle to his wife. He was an unmitigated racist. Elizabeth, a quiet sheltered girl was drawn to his reckless spirit and had to put up with so much crap from him.
@@cinnow Yes he had a weird sense of humour. Calling him a racist by quoting 3 of his sentences is not enough. When I think of racist and UK together then many names come to mind but not him. Sexist? Well yes, maybe, he had a very conservative outlook towards that aspect can’t blame him. An old war hero, what else do you expect.
@@abhishekmukherjee4857 old war hero may not be an accurate description. He quit the navy quite early, upon his marriage. Calling the Chinese chinky, making racial references to Africans, constantly aware of, and reminding former colonies, of their "glorious" past, these were some of Philip's foot in mouth racist remarks. A nobody, he could never come to terms with his wife's preeminence. A harsh father to Charles. A man who got more than he deserved. He probably would have had a wonderful naval career thanks to Mountbatten and Churchill. Elizabeth should've married Porchester.
@@cinnow I think we both have very polarising views about him. He spoke his mind and wasn’t afraid of the consequences. You too speak your mind and I respect that. You are entitled to your own opinion and I wouldn’t want to change that 👍 Happy New year in advance stranger :)

My mom and dad slept in separate bedrooms after 30 years together. It kept them together and they got along better plus my dad snored and my mom liked to watch TV late at night so they respected each other. I’d rather see that happen then they split up and divorce because they don’t wanna sleep together
It is healthy to sleep 💤 separate rooms / for any reason / i do the same and im married 28 years & and we have a son 💙/.
My husband and I sleep in separate rooms. We've been together for 32 years. He out snores 2 tvs, air conditioner and me wearing my headphones watching TV and watching RUclips. We still love each other just like if we slept in the same bed. Quite few of my friends have the same sleeping arrangements. 💗🤗☺️

The same with my parents. My mom was always a night owl, and my dad snored momentously!

Hello Cindy how are you doing today and your family wishing you Merry Christmas and Happy New year 🎉
I’m from a former British colony and now 74 years old. As a child in the first grade it was traditional to have photos of Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Buckingham palace adorn the walls of our Anglican school. To this day I think he was one of the handsomest men I ever saw. And as a six-year old child I remember admiring photographs of him and the Queen. I can see why the young Elizabeth (her majesty) fell in love with him. I also admire Her Majesty very much.
Awesome!
I read that they did not share a bed or room because he snored. She could not sleep while listening to that noise. I know the feeling, my husband snores something awful. He’s seen a doctor, nothing wrong. I’m a night person, I am a nurse, just retired, I worked nights …. I like nights and we did not have to fight about the snoring. On nights I was off he said it was me, one night I took a movie of him,it could not be me if I was taking the movie.

I don’t like the implications expressed here, they adored each other, he was the boss in their relationship, why do we need an American nasal voiced narrator? More research needed.
Don’t forget prince Phillip was also born a Royal his Father was Prince Phillip of Greece. His Mother Alice was the great Granddaughter of Queen Victoria. He had had a rather broken life and had probably had enough of the idea of being a royal especially as his family had been treated so badly after the monarchy of Greece was overthrown when he was a baby. I could understand him wanting to live a low key life.
"They dream of being like us" a profound statement with a lot of truth.
Why, so they can eat cake, too?
He retired at 96 and she’s still working and devoted to her country. They can do whatever they like
Prince Philip was the rock on which the Queen could stand and be the Queen.
Prince Phillip remained at a cottage at the queens behest. Here he could relax and she could visit him. My God, the man was 99yrs old and retired from service. Unless her majesty suffers from old age dementia, she will continue to rule as Queen,,,a promise she made as a child but believed in all her life.

It's amazes me to see these British peoples longevity in life!
The Queen is between 93 or 94 years old! And she is as sharp as a tack! Sure, she has slowed down a bit. She is involved in the daily operations within her home. She goes through a lot of mail, answers many of these letters. She doesn't even limp when she is walking. Most Americans, male & Female are having their Knees, Hips, Shoulders, etc. replaced daily!
It seems all American Bodies wear out quicker vs. British People's body's. Simply "unreal" in my books! However, I am glad for them.
@@LiPo5000 The Queen just celebrated her 95th birthday. She is not just busy within her home. She has duties comparable to a state president. She represents the country. I don't know how she does it. That’s a very valid point since waking up tired contributes to bad mood which can affect the marriage. @@brendadrumm9708 That's so true, particularly about the aches and pains. When I hug my husband he says, oh I didn't know that hurt there until you touched it and I've thought the same thing. You still love each other even if you don't sleep in the same bed all the time and don't spend all your time together.
That idea of being married and living apart for s period of time doesn’t sound that crazy
I traveled for work after a rough time in our marriage. Space helped us communicate better, heal and actually miss each other! I agree though. My marriage is a lifetime commitment. It’s nice to have some healthy distance.
It's called separation not divorce.
They are lovely I miss them
Def many charities -as well as backbone of royals ❤❤❤❤
Long live the queen 👑
At 55 I've had to move into the spare bed.
I'm sick of waking up cold with "ALL" the blankets gone & draped over my wife & the floor on her side but the kicker "pun intended" was the constant kicking of my ghoolies in the middle of the night.
It's wonderful having a entire queen size bed to yourself with no one stealing the blankets but the best by far is no more being kicked or kneed in the nut's.
Not a pleasurable way to be woken up.
Once or twice but then learning not to do it anymore was the goal over the past 10 years but to constantly keep doing it is cruel, nasty.

If that's what happens when you and your wife sleep next to each other then it's probably because you are very tall and she is very short! Only way that can happen. Haahaahaa
I hope he and Diana are having a time of their lives at a better place
This is an affront to the late Queen and King who were devoted to one another!
I knew it!!!! He was an interesting character.
Awesome 😀
They chose the way they wanted to live their personal lives. Thankfully he was allowed to slow down and retire in his last couple of years.
Retire from pulling towels off artpieces and signs?

So lacking in education... Get back under your bridge, fool.
Wish the American narrators would check their facts & study the British monarchy and consitution
Can't do that - as a necessary part of their being is to lie/exaggerate/glamourise and misrepresent reality.
Many older couples move to their own rooms, they could afford their own houses.
Lol
What people don't realize they are us all of us they know that can you understand who you are R.I,P to the bouth GOD bless ALl
Very lovely guy. I dearly miss him and his jokes.
If the Queen and prince Phillip dreamed to live like us and you feel so good about that, really? Why then do you blame Prince Harry and his wife wanting that type of life?
Probably easier to set up medical equipment and nurses out of the view of the public. People need privacy regarding their health when they are dying or in bad shape away from the papers and cameras.

I only wish I had a love like that . So long my God. I'm surprised they didn't live separately sooner lol
No wonder they were married so long
Lol
They only lived apart in his late years so all the rest was their hard work.
The queen spent every weekend with him
I find this all very amusing...why?...because it's none of our business. Who cares, really?. Can't believe I wasted time to comment!
They lived togather but had separate bedrooms for the purpose of being rested an havin space for prayer an royal duties.
Buckingham Palace is the administrative centre for the Royals, they do not live there. They consider Windsor their home.
Hi
Philip was very very handsome....wonder how he liked Elizabeth
It's the privilege of the aristocracy and Royals isn't it? They lived together but apart, more so as they got older so they could adapt better when one passed. If only we could all do that? True love ❤
Maybe they just couldn’t divorce
His man cave was a little bit different.
He deserved to live quietly at the end of his years if that is what he and the queen decided upon.
Retirement at 96 ... he needed a union rep.
He was a royal, but he still worked hard.
He was King Consort in all but name.
In my mind, he will always be King Consort and King Father Philip.
They had a beautiful love story
