As an engineering project, I have always found the Expo 67 site to be interesting. I also like large spheres and I am happy the American Pavillion survived that mylar fire. I am surprised the skeletal frame did not sag with the heat. It still looks like a really good structure today. Expo 67 was before my time but I have accumulated some stuff from back in the day, like the black guide book and some small sized related 67 paper items, plus a couple of coffee table books about the build site and exhibits. I haven't been to LaRonde yet, I have only peeked through the gate and that is all. As a traveller/visitor time is usually limited and I think that I would need a full day for just that alone. I think Belmont got bullied out. LeMonstre has different tracks L/R and IMO that is the true proper way to do up a twinned track design.
Minor correction, the Expo Express operated until October 1973 (same with the Blue Minirail, which closed the same year). Those trains were indeed self-automated and run by computer, and had pretend drivers sitting up front. They did operate the doors to avoid boredom though. The Minirail was also self-automated but did NOT have people pretending to be drivers, I think you mixed up the Express and Minirail (I could be mistaken, but I've not heard of the Minirail having drivers, fake or otherwise).
expo 67 is the fourth top attendance of all time it was a major succes at his time. 35m et 40 m visitor were expected and 50m show up. For Quebecer it still have a major cultural for it's time. Montreal and Quebec open to the world.
you know, those neo-feudal barons surely must've chortled to themselves all gloriously after lumping the dominion's subjects that maple leaf steeped in mercantalism for 'their' flag......
I swear that (a) I rode (one of) MHW's Minirail's at 1981, and (b) this happened to have been MHW's very last summer or season --- I'd taken my sister to stroll about Les Floralies the following summer afterwards
@trainrover - The Yellow Minirail at MHW (which passed by the metro station) had its final year of operation in 1981. So likely you did indeed ride it that year! It sat disused and abandoned after that until it was finally demolished around 1985-86. La Ronde's sister Yellow Minirail was demolished in 2022.
What a good doc this needs more views
Thank you!! Just starting work on the next chapter 🙂
This is so cool, it deserves way more attention.
Thank you - we hope so too!

It’s sad that expo 67 never really reached the pinnacle of success that was promised 😮
