I got a la free electric bicycle with a thumb throttle I'm trying to change it to a twist throttle firework it's got fireworks but the thumb trout has six to a five wire
Figured out something; I removed (got frustrated putting it back together) the spring from a cheapie thumb throttle. It was the kind with the 3 light volt indicator on top.
Anyway, I put the unit back on the handlebars, then placed an appropriate-sized o-ring beside the throttle, then snugged-up the rear gear shifter. The end result is the throttle stays fixed where you set it. This can obviously be dangerous, but otoh it's VERY good while riding. You can control the motor via your brake handles, and pretty much go a constant speed which saves on battery life. A lot of my rides are full of stop-and-go.
My plan is to evolve this a bit more to make it safe, but I do very much like setting the single-power level
(the main current drawback is you might forget when you're stopped somewhere, release the brake handle and go flying off; not a happy thought).
Hi MP
thanks for the feedback
Yes is no problem while your riding the bike as you know about it, what if someone else un-be-knowlingly gets on the bike, that's just my angle on it.

@@Dumponanything Hi DOA
It's a while since i did that video, but from memory, you would think the wiring would be the same, but back then different manufacturers could use different colour wires, If manufacturers have standardised by now, it could be the same, but if it was me i would methodically check what wire is what.
As long as you don't get the +ve and -ve mixed up you shouldn't do any damage to the hall sensor, I have no experience of the ones with keys, but would imagine it just the same as the push button switch.

@@Dumponanything Hi DOA
Its a while back since i did this, so memory has faded, but i think you mean the 3 pin plug i added for the +ve = red to red -ve black to black and signal wire white to white, then there were two other wires with bullet connectors on to the switch.

I'm on holiday at moment so can't check the bike physically, but i think the 3 pin connector is how ive just described.

Ayup bud, i ain`t sure about all meters but mine will show a minus (-) sign before a voltage reading if the polarity is the wrong way round to how you put the red and black test leads, so the yellow and blue wires will show the right way without minus(-) before reading and the wrong way will have a (-) minus before volts, I noticed your meter has a minus that flashed when you buzzed it, test your meters taking a voltage test on a small battery both ways to see if it does, cheers all
thanks AS
i will check that again, i had noticed a while back that happens sometimes but on last checking it seemed to show the polarity correctly and in reverse correctly, appreciate the feedback

@@MrFactotum yes i am not sure if they all put a minus before volt reading when its reversed, I have a fairly good edison dam668 meter, it states in the manual it does this and only sussed it out a year or 2 ago and I've had it near 20 years lol but I don't see why they all wouldn`t. its handy now I no it does it, cheers bud, I'm building well converting a trycicle into electric using a wheelchair motor and gearbox but the motor is getting to hot, I've built aelectric fankenscooter out of a aovo pro, a Windgoo and stem of an electra, the handle bar stem had snaped on the aovo and the board stem snaped on the windgoo, so I was looking at your vid to find out if and how to wire things, because I have other parts and 2 razor e100 full scooters to use parts off, trycicle is 24v 4 new 12v 9amp hour batteries, and sooter is 36v 350w that I now have 2 hubmotors and 36v 10.5 amp hour and a 36v 6 amp hour batteries, it goes 19mph, I'm thinking of putting both hubs n it, not sure if I can use 1 controller and throttle for both, or I can cut the deck with broke stem down, with the battery and controller in it and bolt it to the wheeled deck, the aovo controller has Bluetooth and apparently the firmware can be hacked to increase mph and acceleration, so plenty to play with, the aovo has no suspension and honeycomb tires so it rattles like a horse cart on a cobbled street, crap, windgoo has front and back sperings but the ally stem has snapped, I put a bit of pipe in the stem hole and got both sides of broken stem over that and drilled and tapped 3 bolts each side that went all the way through, it works and holds but it has streatched and wobbles now, I will get a tig when I get the money, I had a razor e300 with 2 aldi batteries wired direct using all sorts of switches and old drill triggers, it went about 28mph and they are great solid scooters for building on, ok bud enough bull ship, let me no if your meter does cheers all

Couple side questoins:
-does the lcd/led display actually have any controls usage
-could you point me to the correct display, as I'm thinking our controllers are the same ("dc moto by lithium battery").
Talk about the wild west, ebikes are pretty much it.
The blue lcd on the bike is nothing to do with the bike function actually, i just wired it in to check the controllers maximum amperage under load, it has no other function, other than an experiment, its actually a watt meter they use on solar systems.

This video is helpful, thanks.
My problem is I have 8 wires coming from my key switch throttle and i haven’t seen any help for 8 wires from throttle. What I’ve figured out so far has been thru research, video, and articles.
Brown + yellow, key/ignition
Blue, green, grey, black - all leading from display screen on throttle (batt, volt indicator.
And blue + gray, throttle.
Red, black, white - all come from HS in throttle.
Black wire shared between HS and batt/voltage display.
After connecting to “practice motor” motor will spin but only with “intelligent wires”. I can’t get any action with throttle + when I multimeter test, voltage to HS is at 8v.
Motor spins, get all info on display, but I obviously have something not connected or misconnected.
Man I could really use ur help. Stuck for few days now.
Do you have an email address? Would you allow me to send a video of my connection and what happening?
I’m thisclose…. Need help to get over this hump
GREAT VIDEO.

Hi Robert
thanks for comments, sorry to hear your problems, i can only vouch for the voillamart kit in the video,, i've never seen one with 8 wires on, I think the chinese call the key switch wires (door lock) although it's a while since i played around with these, so i think these wires need a battery voltage +ve , then when switched to the on position, it sends +ve to the controller to wake it up, also i thought the signal voltage should be 4 to 5 volt, never heard of 8 volt.
I can't promise anything because these things need hands on faffing around with!!! but my email is on my about page, but only shows on a computer /laptop for some reason.
good luck
Kev
@@MrFactotum
thanks for your reply, Mr. Kev. I don’t have a laptop but I’ll go to library to get your information. To clarify, when I test the three wires from HS in throttle, this is an isolated test with red multimeter probe on signal wire and black on ground. Read starts at expected .8 but increases to 7v … just under voltage of 9-volt battery I’m using to test. Regardless of error in reading I know for sure HS works because it is fluctuating from pole to pole.
I’ll send video as soon as I get to a library. Thank you so much. You didn’t have to extend this generosity.
Lastly, 🙏🏾 + condolences for the loss of ur daughter. I’m confident she would be proud of you, sir.
Email u in the coming days.

Im thisclose…it’s so frustrating, but I’m not a quitter and I enjoy ebike challenges.
Somehow when all is connected and I pass a magnet over the throttle HS, there is no correlation motor spin. Motor only spins if I connect intelligent wires on controller.
Im still working at it as we speak + I keep notes like you, too. I’m studying ur notes all day. Helpful.
Somehow, I’m not getting any voltage to throttle HS when passed over magnet which tells me I haven’t grounded something, closed a circuit somehow.
I have the wires figured out for sure, it’s just I’m missing some connection from controller to read HS throttle
Thanks So Much!!!!

how to connect simple thumb the three wires black green and red on controller six color display socket red black white green brown yellow
hi 4444sh
If you are just omitting the switch, just connect the 3 throttle wires to the controller then the 2 wires for the switch will need joining if you are not putting a seperate switch in. If you are deviating from the voillamart set up i have no experience in other systems, so just use your multimeter to determine the wires, like i have shown in my video.

On a twist throttle voltage display. 1 week ago it read 48v now it reads 42v. Does it go all the way down to 1v or 10v before I need to recharge the battery or ? Please let me know ?
No,
a 36v battery when full reads 42v when discharged it will cut out at around 30v,
Don't know about 48v batteries, but will have a similar ratio.

So the yellow and blue wires are just (+) for the switch functionality?.... Is the throttle working without connecting the 2 wires?
hi GR
On mine
the yellow is continuous Live +ve
the blue is switched live +ve
i didn't try mine without these wires connected but i would imagine the throttle internal connections need this switched live to turn the power on or off to everything for safety.

@@MrFactotum Sorry but i have to ask again, because i am really unsure. Do you think that 36V throttle you posted would work fine with a 24V battery?
@@SnakePlizkin Hi SP No Problem at all.
I can't see any reason why not, It's the controller that matters as long as the controller supports the 3 wires to facilitate for a throttle and the controller supports working at 24volt ie with a 24v battery, the throttle should recieve its 4v signal to tell it to work. I'm no expert it's just my knowledge from tinkerining with a few ebikes that i've made up mainly from Voillamart parts, however there not really voillamart parts thats just a suppliers name.
As long as the battery and controller match i.e 24volt controller, (some controllers are dual voltage, thats 36v/48v or 24v/36v) and that the controller has all the functions you need i can't see a problem. As a last resort If you have not bought the throttle yet, just try to find one that says the voltage range or ask the supplier.
Hope this helps you

Sorry to bother u again. Still working on ebike and listening to this video.
When u did a continuity between the yellow and blue wires (mine yellow + brown) u said the yellow wire is ur continuous live +ve and the brown wire for activating controller. U probed the black meter to blue and red probe to yellow.
Wouldn’t continuity work both ways so that even if u switched black and red probe u would still get continuity, no? So how did I determine that ur yellow wire is for continuous voltage and blue is for voltage to controller when u turn key, press button, etc to turn bike on. Little confused.
I’m watching video over and over to absorb information. Thank you.

hi Paul
sorry to hear your having problems. It sounds like your opposite to what i was transposing,
It may be that the controller is for the 5 wired thumb throttle, the trouble is its over a year ago since i did that on mine , there are that many chinese controllers / throttles in the market without standardised colours its difficult to say without physically checking things, if its a voillamart kit should'nt it have come with all the correct fittings. Its just going to be a process of elimination to find out what each wire does, by checking with a multi meter, all i can say is try to work backwards from my video, to see if you can establish exactly what each wire does, i.e. live, earth, signal, display etc, to find out what the extra wire actually is for. Sorry i can't be of more help, but its difficult without being hands on to job.

hall sensors don't read the speed, they tell the controller where the motor phase positions are as it spins, to tell the controller which of the 3 winding phases to send power to, it all happens in micro seconds as it spins.

Help! So I have the same old 6 wire throttle and a new 5 wire throttle with key instead of a button.
My voltage meter turns on but the throttle isn’t turning the motor? 36v 750w motor.
Any ideas?
Also I can hear the motor click when I turn the key switch on. Just no turning.
hi ff590.
sorry to hear your problem, it's really difficult to say not being able to have a hands on approach, there are quite a few variables to check, as nothing is standardised, if the motor worked ok with the old throttle on then this should eliminate a motor problem, unless by coincidence a fault has occured with maybe a hall sensor in the motor,.
Because your key switch throttle is differenent to my button one it could be wired with different coloured wires, it's just a matter of being methodical and re-check what wires are serving what parts etc. and trace there function.
Sorry i can't be more specific, but its difficult not being hands on to look at it with it not being identical to my voillamart one.
all the best with it👍👍

Hello again MrFactotum.
Had another question i was hoping you could possibly assist with.
I replaced the throttle I couldn’t get to work despite wiring it exactly like yours.
And it worked!
Question is though, now I replaced my controller with one that supports an lcd. With the lcd being the only/off power button now, is it possible to use my(or any) keyed throttle? It’s currently working just as a throttle only without the key function.
Thanks again for the video. It’s been extremely helpful.
@@TwitcyTraineyup FF590
glad to hear it worked.
As for question about the different controller with a lcd display, i have never owned one of those, so can't really offer any advice, i just keep all my bikes with the minimal hardware, then if a problem occurs it's more simple to resolve, I would keep it without the key function if its working ok, if your worried someone might take off on it, put a on/off switch hidden near the battey, to isolate the battery., thats what i have done, i also put a inline fuse there as well, and carry a spare fuse with me.
I'm not telling how to suck eggs here, but never leave a lithium battery on charge in your home, shed or garage. especially the far eastern ones which most of them are anyway, wether branded or not. I always charge mine outside in my undercover entrance way, and never leave it alone.!!!!

Warning: On mine the yellow wire from the controller must connect to the yellow wire on the throttle. If the brown wire from the controller is connected to the yellow wire on the throttle like it says in the video it will still work but the voltage display will be illuminated even when the power is switched off! Only the blue wire on the throttle needs to be connected to the brown wire on the controller. No need to connect the green wire from the controller.
Hi iptv
Thanks for comments, it works fine on mine and for many others who have commented,
I did say in video that there's no guarantee that all throttles will have same colour wires and to double checkwhat wire does what before fitting

Today I replaced another 6 wire twist throttle with a 5 wire thumb throttle of a different make and it's a good thing that I took your advice and tested it before seating the connectors into the socket because this one needed to be wired like in the video with the brown wire on the controller to the yellow wire on the throttle. Like the other one it didn't matter if the blue wire on the throttle connected to either the yellow or green wire on the controller.

If its the same just follow my video, it's quite a while since i did that project, so off top of my head don't fully remember what went were, and without the full information on what you are using i don't want to tell you the wrong thing, if your still not sure send me a picture of your controller wires and thumb throttle wires, but if they are not identical to mine, a picture won't help as you need the multi meter on them to find out what is what with the functions.
Hope that helps
good luck

@@MrFactotum thanks for the reply , no it’s a twist throttle m8 not a thumb one , again thanks for the answer. Peace out
@@aishalotter9995 hi
If it's the same throttle as shown in my video, then the white wire is the throttle signal wire to tell the motor what speed to run at, depending where the throttle position is at, so that's why nothings happening as its not connected to the controller, you need to connect this wire to the corresponding wire on the controller, It's very difficult for me to explain further without being able to see everything.
hope this helps you
good luck
Kev
Ok so i tried your method cause i have the same voilamrt throttle but it doesnt work any more suggestions?
sorry to hear that R A
so the thumb throttle it did work then it doesn't now, must be a bad connection somewhere or faulty thumb throttle / controller, i did have a voillamart controller prior to the one in the video that had a fault on it which they replaced with no quibble. Check that your getting 4.1 volt signal from the controller, and that the same 4.1 volt is reaching the thumb throttle, if not its one of the above problems, Hope that helps

@@RealRayAl ok, check the correct voltage is coming from the controller and reaching the throttle, or re connect the original throttle as it was, this will help finding if its the controller or the thumb throttle, to eliminate one or the other, its difficult for me to be more precise with not being hands on it, it's a matter of elimination, it might be a bad thumb throttle, hope this helps you, good luck,

@@MrFactotum it might be a bad thumb throttle because when i connect the brown to the thick white on new throttle it powers on the new throttle but no motor movement. I cant connect the old throttle anymore because the 3 wires that were connected to the small sensor chip in throttle snapped off and idk how they were connected to chip. Thats the bad thing.
Was the controller and the hub motor by Violamart also ?

Controller was voillamart, the hub was a Old Sparta as per my other videos where i repaired it.

hi Brandon
Sorry to hear your problem, it's just a matter of double checking all the wires and connections for faults, and for good connections, or maybe you have a faulty product. It's very difficult to say without being hands on.
Hope you get it sorted.👍👍👍
ATB
Kev
But how do u no if it's a faulty product
@@brandonsourjohn4901 well Brandon, thats the million dollar question, it's like anything else, probably compare it with a good one, then you will have a spare or sell one on.
Sorry but it's a hands on problem, can't be solved unless on the job. Just double check all the wiring, connections, earths, live wires, signal wires to see if they are all doing what they sould do, if you accidently put full voltage wires to signal wires you can damage the hall sensor in the throttle. After that it's probably down to the throttle. Cheap imported items are notorious for having some form of faults, some repairable, some not. If all fails you could ask the supplier of the throttle to replace it if it's still not responding.

I have connected throttle differently.
l connected the yellow thread to the + battery, and the blue thread to the wire thin, red in the controller.
Now, although in the battery I have 41.5 V, the Throttle shows me 22-28 V and the engine does not rotates.
Why don't I see 41.5 V and on Throttle ? 😕
I think I ruined something ...
hi john
you say you connected the throttle differently may be there's the problem. Could be controller or throttle problems, giving the false reading. Many others have commented to me with successful outcomes. Its imperative that you don't connect positive power where it should not go due to risking causing damage

I do not have the same colors at the wire in controller. I have 2 controllers. I thought the first is faulty.
I replaced him with the other. The defect remains !!! I think the problem is at Throttle.
I'm going to look for a video, "How to repair a throttle."
In this video I presented the 2 controllers. Unfortunately, I do not know, how to put the translation into the video, and my English is ... Poor.

@@John_Smile Hi john, ive had a quick look at your video, but its very difficult for me as i don't understand your language.
The trouble is there is so many controllers on the market and theres no standard wiring configuration, the controller in my video was from a voillamart kit so i can only advise on that controller with that wiring configuration is. Its very difficult for me without being hands on to check what wires does what. Its just a matter for you to check with a multi meter what wires are negatives, (positives Full Voltage) and (signal wires usually around 5 volt),
I will take a more detailed look at your video a little later on to see if i can translate and check the wires visually, and if i can come up with any info i will let you know, Hope that helps and hope you understand its difficult for me not being hands on and with the language barrier.
take care and good luck

Starting 5:30, I tried to translate from Chinese in Romania, connecting the wires.
I'll leave several pics below.
One is with Chinese text.
One with the English text.
I will try to translate the video and in English. I have never translated.
But I will try.

is there a pas 12345 function on the Voilamart ?
Not on mine MB2u
Hi I don't know if you can advise me but I have the voilarmart kit and replaced the six wire throttle with a five wire and followed your instructions, and it worked on the first couple of test rides, then it stopped working and the wheel does not turn and the volt metre on the throttle is jumping about from 16v upto 26v and anything in-between, when I first wired it it worked and read the voltage as if it was a single cell. Thanks for any advice
hi qc
sorry to hear your problem, its very difficult to say without being able to be hands on, it could be any number of things, i afraid its going to be a trial and error method of finding the problem. if i where you i would check all connections first .
I have to say though, when i bought the voilamart kit, i fitted it, and it worked a couple of times for one day, then i had problems it became eratic, to cut a long story short, it turned out to be a faulty controller, i emailed the seller expecting to be fobbed off, and to my amazement after sending them a video of the box that the kit came in as proof of being there product and explaining on camera to them that i had connected everything up as per the instructions, they sent me a new controller and its worked fine since.
If i were you if the wire connections seem ok, i would look on youtube for a video that tells you how to do static tests on the motor. there is one out there but the name slips my mind at moment. It checks the 3 main phase wires and hall sensors, and is quite simple to do. This will enable you to rule the motor out if all tests are ok, its very unlikley to be the motor.
Then you could put the six wire throttle back on and see if that works. this will point the finger at the thumb throttle to be suspect then.
If still no joy, it looks like things are pointing to the controller. Make sure when changing wires anywhere on the system that you don't short any out or connect wrongly with power on, as it could damage the circuits.
Hope this helps you, take it one step at a time, and let me know how you get on. Good luck

5-wire (new switch) to 6-wire (controller):
Yellow----->Brown
Blue---->Green&Yellow
Throttle:
Red------>Red
Black---->Black
Green---->White
He has this information clearly in his video, but just in case you're looking at it on a crappy screen.
Applies For this specific set of controller and switches only.
For his controller pinout:
Brown: full-time battery positive to on/off switch
Black: Negative wire for everything
Red: ~5 VDC to throttle
White: ~0.8VDC to 3.8 VDC, "Hall Sensor", varies for throttle movement
Green, Yellow: Battery voltage with on/off switch in "On"
Someone please verify I didn't F this up?
Hi MP
Spot on for this specific controller and switch, since then i have another thumb throttle with once again different colours, why an earth they can't have an industry standard is beyond me, so please everybody check your wires with a multi meter to varify all the colours and to check the battery voltage, signal voltage, sensor voltage, earth and switch wires. it's fairly simple to do this with a multi meter so double check,.
Thanks for feedback MP
Happy ebiking

That didn't work whatsoever for me
Please note CONTINUITY on a meter does not determine polarity.

thanks for clarifying.
Yes your right about mr fixit, but i'm always open to advice and pointers, from anyone, thats how you learn!! and your message will certainly help others, thinking of exploring the subject, I do enjoy cycling, took it back up about 18 month ago to help my fitness, bad knee and bad back, and its helped enormously, me and a friend like me in our 60's have built up to 30 mile rides now, and now we've exhausted many of our local flati'sh routes, we thought having electric at our disposal we could venture out a biton different routes and any major hills would not bother us as much, i only use the electric on big hills.
Anyway sorry to hear about your brush with covid 19 and hope you get back to normal as soon as possible, my daughter had it recent, shes ok now, but we were on tender hooks for a while as we look after the grandkids, but we escaped it up to now thank goodness. Hope you keep progressing to get back on your bike,
