Looks like I'm not the only one coming to such videos after hearing the news! Sadly, I didn't know she received an honorary Oscar until reading the obituary, so I had to look it up
Rest in Peace Angela Lansbury. A true LEGEND. Thank you for being part of our childhood. So glad she was able to have this recognition in her lifetime.
My Uncle and his then partner were in a lift (elevator) in a Boston hotel about to go up to their room when the doors opened again and in walked Angela Lansbury. This was around the time when Murder, She Wrote was still filming and hugely popular and my Uncle said to his partner 'I think we'd better find another hotel, there's going to be a murder in this one!'. Angela Lansbury burst out laughing, despite the fact that she MUST have heard the same thing millions of times before and she happily signed an autograph for my Uncle, which he still has to this day. Always been a fan of hers, very gracious and an absolute legend!
It only took them 70 years to give her an Oscar. She is undoubtedly a legend. Her body of work is mind-boggling & she's never let limitations such as age, womanhood, image, personal problems stop her. A true inspiration. I look to her as a positive example. We can all learn so much from her approach
C.J. O'Dell I don't get why she didn't receive the Award at the actual Academy Awards ceremony. Nonetheless great and wholly deserved. Now - let's get her an Honorary EMMY! lol
She's grossly underrated! That woman oozes personality charm and star power and she was such an underrated beauty as well with her big blue eyes and cute round cheeks. Thank god she was finally recognized!
They stopped giving the Honorary Awards at the telecast a few years ago. There is a separate ceremony a few months earlier just for those so honored. However, they do usually acknowledge the winners for a brief moment during the actual show.
Finally! Finally! Finally! She deseves that Oscar sooooooooo much. One of the greatest actresses in the entire cinema-industry. And she is also a star in tv and theatre. I'm so glad for this tribute for a living legend.
God bless u Angela. Almost 90 years old and you are still active, still sharp and still beautiful. You should be a model for young "actresses" these days. Thank you Angela and i wish you well.
Angela Lansbury is simply one of the greatest actresses of all time! No one deserves this honor more than her. A true legend and an inspiration. 88 years who? She doesn't look a day over 60. Here's hoping Ms. Lansbury will be offered a great film role soon so she could add another Oscar to her endless list of accolades! Brava!
Charlie Chaplin According to Ms. Lansbury she turned down the role of Nurse Ratchet because she ''couldn't bear her''. After she saw the movie she knew even more that she made the right decision. Ms. Lansbury said that Louise Fletcher is a great actress and deserves her Oscar very much.
Great sincerity, and she is fully able to perceive the magnitude of her achievements without being smug or self-centered about them. Her tribute to her family at the end says it all. A lovely lady and a stellar career.
She is still with us now in 2022. Both she & Margaret Thatcher were born the same month & year but MT passed in 2013 the same year AL is receiving this award.
A beautiful heartfelt speech, from a wonderful woman. All through her acceptance speech she pays tribute to the people who inspired her: fellow actors, directors or producers and all her family. My love, admiration and appreciation for Angela stems from her incredible talent, humility, humour and generosity. She is a one of the greatest artists of our time, honoured in UK as a Dame and we in the UK are proud of our "Mrs 'Arris"!
I just saw NATIONAL VELVET this past Saturday in a local revival cinema with two young friends of mine. Elizabeth Taylor, Mickey Rooney, and even little Butch Jenkins are gone, but older sister Angela Lansbury G-d bless her is still hopefully going strong. Angela Lansbury's grandfather George Lansbury was the leader of Great Britain's Labor Party in the late 30s and was succeeded by Clement Attlee who became prime minister in 1945. BTW we, especially the kids, enjoyed NATIONAL VELVET.
Please watch on RUclips the What's My Line clip where Angela Lansbury is the mystery guest and Pia Lindstrom (Ingrid Bergman's daughter) is one of the panelists.
The lovely and wonderful, Angela Lansbury, passed away today, October 11, 2022, at her home in Los Angeles. She was 96. One of my favorite actresses, I've always admired her demure and sense of reservedness as hallmarks to her wonderful personality as exhibited by her kindness, sweetness, humbleness and integrity. She was a wonderful actress and a more wonderful person. I can't believe she's gone. She will be sorely missed! ETA: Her appearance in Disney's, "Beauty and The Beast", was actually her gift to her grandchildren!
Angela Lansbury is absolutely a HERO to me! He portrayal of a woman in her 60s on Murder She Wrote STANDS as a role model to us women of that age as one of grace, beauty, intelligence, courage, and honor! I have watched her since her performance in MSW continuously....her You Tube clips...read her unofficial biography...and only wish I could meet her in person or see her on the stage! She has enriched my life TREMENDOUSLY....and I am SO THANKFUL for her! She has touched so MANY lives throughout her many years before the public! A woman I will always admire and whose influence will always live as long as there is film to replay over and over again!
I have so much respect for this woman. She has some something about her which people just lack nowadays.. For her personality on and off screen she deserves all the recognition she can get. I wish the future generations will have anyone that comes close to the legends we have now x
And it don't get much better than the legendary Angela Lansbury!! I am so glad to see her FINALLY acknowledged for her exceptional body of work by the Academy. She truly DESERVED to win when she was nominated in 1963 (FIFTY YEARS AGO!!) as Best Supporting Actress for her wicked performance in THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE. But it was not to be. She did however, go on to a remarkable stage career winning several Tony awards on Broadway. Academy PLEASE start including these Lifetime Achievement Oscars on the annual telecast again. These living legends have often waited a lifetime to be honored by their peers and we should all get to see them rewarded.
I am so grateful I was born and raised in NYC. I adore Dame Lansbury. I saw her 3 times in Gypsy, 10 times in Sweeney Todd; I saw her in The King and I, countless appearances in tributes, attended the Tony Awards one year because she was going to appear on it. I flew up from Florida to see her in Deuce and in Blithe Spirit. I met her so many times, especially as a youngster, and she was always so lovely. Outside of Mickey Rooney, to me, she has had the most incredible career, covering every arena and owning them. Long may she reign!
I love her!! Murder She Wrote is one of the best shows ever made!!!! And as she mentioned herself, that role (as Jessica Fletcher) gave her the most attention - I live in FINLAND and absolutely love the show!
I wasn't expecting her to mention Portugal but it's true, 'Murder, She Wrote' is still broadcast here and I watch it every afternoon. She absolutely deserves this award.
Dame Angela Landsbury is an entertainment ICON with an impressive resume of work in stage, screen and tv. Thank You Dame Angela for the many wonderful memories of your incredible life on stage, screen and interacting with your fans. You will be remembered as a GREAT HUMAN who shared her GOD given talents with the world and inspiring so many young performers with your kindness on set. LOVE THIS WOMAN!!!!
I still watch episodes of "Murder She Wrote" because my wife is a fan, and so am I (secretly!). She is one of the finest exports we have ever produced (alongside Dame Julie Andrews, etc) and she is still 'treading the boards' when some would have cried "enough". "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" is still a personal favourite. Enough said.
I think I'll be coming back here for the foreseeable future... Never have I felt so devastated by the passing of a celebrity like I feel now for having lost Angela Lansbury. There will always be a special place in my heart where me and my late grandparents are sitting in front of the TV watching the adventures of Ms. Jessica Fletcher. Thank you for the beautiful memories and rest in everlasting love and peace.
One of the most befitting tribute to one of the best ever human being par excellence I know, Angela Lansbury you will always remain one of my heroes. God Bless and Thank you Oscars for this video :)
It was actually better that it wasn't. At the Oscars you hardly get the chance to speak a few words and they're already shovin you off the stage to make way for the next part. Here she got a chance to say all that she obviously wanted to say. It is great. :)
A true Hollywood legend and superb on film, television, radio and in the theatre and loved and admired throughout the world. God Bless Angela, long may it continue.
Such a Grand woman of stage and film. She has done everything. She IS theater production. Such a Living Legend and the list of individuals she has worked with is Legendary. She has such persistence and doesnt forget to thank anyone. That's what its all about. So glad she has renewed happiness.
I love you Angela Lansbury!!! So glad to have seen you on Broadway and you here receiving an Honorary Award for all of your film, television, and Broadway work! Congrats to a great dame!
Angela Lansbury's contribution to the world of entertainment will go down as unmatched by anyone. Stage, Screen, television, Acting Dancing, singing, Directing, Producing and I would imagine writing. While some may match that, no-one will beat it!
I love that she name-checks Mrs. Iselen and brought John Frankenheimer's widow to the ceremony. MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE is so, so great, and she is so great in it.
Great actress! Beautiful lady! I've seen many of her work's from National Velvet to Death on the Nile to Murder She Wrote and loved every minute of them all. May You rest in peace, Dame Angela Lansbury🥀
She’s had the most incredible career! She’s truly conquered every aspect of the biz there is! Worked with everyone from Judy Garland, Katherine Hepburn, Elvis, Orson Welles.. Film, TV, Broadway: Amazing Angela! So beloved!
What an elegant classy woman! She's so beautiful and she not only deserved this Oscar but deserved at least one Emmy for all those years as Jessica Fletcher in "Murder She Wrote". It's a shame the Oscars don't give these legends their due during the Oscar show now and they give it at the "Governor's Ball".
Patty Duke was incredible, but Angela Lansbury was a force to be reckoned with for The Manchurian Candidate. Even tho she didn’t win the Oscar, I was so happy they honored her with this honorary award for her variety of work. What a fucking legend.
What a just, if belated, honor for this consistently wonderful actress. Her performance in Manchurian is absolutely unapproachable in its villainy. Eternal love.
Angela needs a talk show! She could have on all these classy guests and they'd just tell stories about their careers. Emma Thompson would be the sidekick.
She mentions all the great movies and stars that got her to where she is today and she is grateful for them. Can't fault her as she's such a beloved star. Always Mrs Potts to me.
Was brought up with Bedknobs and Broomsticks and my aunt watched Murder she wrote so I naturally had a lot of affection for Angela, she seems like such a lovely woman.
Every laud & praise for this ultra-talented lady is so deserved! If you have never seen her performance in Manchurian Candidate, it is a MUST see! So chilling, so dark & so doggone SPOT ON for her character, I actually watch spellbound & shivering! It is amazing!
Angela Lansbury is a brilliantly talented woman, her body of work stretches across so many genres, but to me she will always be "bobbing along at the bottom of the beautiful briney sea"....I first saw her in bedknobs and broomsticks, when I was a child...it is still one of my favourite films.
I'm writing from Italy as a great fan of Angela Lansbury . I will miss her very much , she was my medicine when I felt sad or worried. Now Miss Fletcher is flying and investigating in Heaven.
just read that she died. O, I do feel sad about it. She made her debut in Gaslight - can you believe that...! Wonderful actress. Bless her for given us all these wonderful movies and tv series. You did it well, Angela. Very well.
Like many of my generation, a child of the 60's, I first came to know of this supremely talented lady when she starred in Bedknobs and Broomsticks. I was too young to realise that she'd already established herself as a remarkable talent although my mother enthused about her other work so I quickly became educated. She always comes across as humble, dignified and truly appreciative of all she has. She is now a Dame, another accolade richly deserved and the only award which can only be given by her birth nation. Indeed, she is legendary and a great British export.
Love Angela Lansbury so much!! We keep rewatching "Gaslight" and "The Picture of Dorian Gray" and "The Court Jester"; and that one with Elvis, "Blue Hawaii"; and of course "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" and "Beauty and the Beast." We watched the tv broadcast of "Sweeney Todd" and loved it. We own every "Murder, She Wrote" episode as well as the movies that rounded out that show's amazing run. We have a record of "Mame" with her singing that we've about worn out. Can you say we are die-hard Angela Lansbury fans? Had we the money we would have gone to New York for every play, but alas could not afford that happy pleasure. We did get to see her perform with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for Christmas 2001, which was an amazing show. Angela Lansbury, you're the tops, someone with talent and true class. You deserve every award possible.
I have met Miss Lansbury a number of times and she remains one of the most gracious and talented women in the acting community . I watch Murder She Wrote every night. I admire her longevity in TV and film. 🎭🙇♀️
What a lovely lady and wonderful speech. She is so deserving of this. Not only that, but Angela looks absolutely stunning. She is simply beautiful. Long Live Angela Lansbury! You are a true legend!
I love Angela Lansbury who had being appeared as Miss Eglantine Price in "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" and it was very tremendous of her doing that in 1971, I love it because I have favourites on my own and it's the best thing for me in peace forever.
One of the most talented actresses of all time, a true LEGEND of film,tv and the stage. There will never be another actress with as much talent or class as this AMAZING woman. Ms Landsbury will.be remembered always for the characters she has brought to life, JB Fletcher, Mrs Potts and Mrs Claus just to.name a few. THANK YOU Me Landsbury!!!!!
RIP. Everybody is called a legend, but Angela Lansbury really was a LEGEND.
Looks like I'm not the only one coming to such videos after hearing the news! Sadly, I didn't know she received an honorary Oscar until reading the obituary, so I had to look it up

It took them way too long, but at least they did finally give her an Oscar. An honorary award, yes, but technically, it still counts.

She is British-born --Irish mother, English father. Lived in the States from the onset of the London Blitz during the Second World War.
She never gave up her British nationality which is why she was knighted.
Granddaughter of the British Labour Party leader and Socialist George Lansbury.
