  • Hidden far from the city in upstate New York lies the ruins of a castle that could be straight out of a fairy tail movie. Dundas Castle also called Craig-E-Clair Castle, was built in 1880 as a summer home for Bradford Lee Gilbert. After exchanging various owners, this once beautiful estate now withers away neglected and forgotten.

Hard to believe people would let something this beautiful rot away. Beautiful imagery. So much neat stuff back there. Here in Arizona all we have is cactus, lizards and sand and one civil war battle where a bunch of guys got drunk, yelled at each other then went home..(I'm exaggerating a bit)

Sad to see all the boarded up windows. Last time we were there over 15 years ago most of the window panes were intact. Thank you for this beautiful birdseye prospective of the castle.

Yea its sad to see, but understandable considering how people mistreat these structures now.

This is beautiful! I've been urban exploring for quite sometime. I'd love to get permission to drive up here and take some photos. I'm from upstate new York so this would be a nice few hour drive. It's a shame people have no respect and break into and ruin it for others that actually want to visit and take pics and not hurt anything in the process. I've found the owner of it's still the same man.

Thank you ! The castle is honestly one of the most spectacular urbex sights I have ever seen. Its also become a pretty popular spot, and thus security cameras have been installed. If you can contact the owner you might be able to obtain permission to take some pics.

@@hannahcanario I did not contact the owner, as I never had any intentions of entering the property. But i''m sure someone can point you in the right direction for contacting the groundskeeper for a visit.

This property is on 346 acres and is 31,775 square feet with 34 bedrooms 7 full and 2 half baths, the owner is from Manhattan (religious organization) and the 2020 taxes paid were a whopping $702.29! Yes, you read that right!

Yes, apparently whoever now owns it is turning it into a hotel or conference center according to Atlas Obscura..

Security cameras, private property sign, cleaned up a bit, there must be some intention to repair or restore...I sure hope so, for history sake. Great fly over and much appreciated.

The inside of the Castle has marble floors, spiral staircases, huge fireplaces. It's sad to see the vandalism that's been done to it (something that I have a hard time understanding). That said, Several friends and I actually slept there overnight in the summer if 81. We had permission to from the caretaker who was there at the time.
If people didn't feel the need to make a mess of something simply because they are able to it wouldn't be off limits.

  • @iworkout6912

I'm sure the history of this building is well known. I have read it somewhere, and its probably on line somewhere. I have driven by many times and you would never know its there. Which is probably a good thing, as more people would try and get in it. With modern tech, its easier now to catch people who might want to get in it just to tag the place and destroy whats left. Probably mostly kids and they have not respect for buildings like this. Its well posted, so you would be arrested for trespassing. There is a State Police office not far away in Roscoe.

Its accessible, but you would probably want to contact the owners, as the grounds are monitored.

Freemansons own the property. A LOT of horrible things took place over the decades. It's needs a serious exorcism or leveled.
