  • Seth and I went to Hillsborough NC today to try out their new skatepark. It was super smooth and really fun though it took me a bit to find some lines. We had the park to ourselves for a while but I think it could feel crowded really quickly. There is still active construction on the grounds and it looked like the grand opening was set for September 28th 2024. Overall we had a blast there and I loved the transitions!

looking smooth and comfortable out there on the transition!! I wish I could skate like that

I gave up on the grinds to spend more time on the transitions. I will leave the grinding to you younger guys while I continue to struggle with getting better on the walls!

Good skating, that looks like a great park to learn at for sure. Seth is doing real good

It was a great park, so smooth and the transitions were all awesome. I can see how it could get crowded really quickly with more people though, I don't think it can handle many skaters before it becomes a waiting line for each run. I think it would be a park for early morning skating.

The way you went backwards over the bump was awesome, great balance 👏 I'm currently laying in bed, some virus caught me, so instead of doing rollerblading, I'm watching rollerblading videos 😁 Last friday, I've been to our bigger skatepark. I don't go there too often as it's always full of kids. So I had a chance to try dropping in from a ramp, not the smallest one, maybe 1 meter of height. I actually was too scared to drop in from a lower ramp as the transition seems to be more abrupt than on a higher one. It was such a great feeling to overcome the fear ☺️

I hate to hear you are sick, hope you get better soon! Great job on the drop in!! I know exactly what you mean about the transitions. The smallest wall at our local park has the sharpest transition and was the one that scared me the most and took me the longest to try, and I still have not managed to frontside stall it. Now all you have to do is keep doing the repetitions and it will feel natural eventually. I try to do at least 10 every session at every park, and even now the first couple at a new park are scary sometimes. As you do it more, your confidence will grow and even though there may still be some fear, its much easier to overcome it. I hope you can get back out soon and keep it going😀

@@theaverageoldguy I've recently added the link to my Instagram here on my RUclips profile, I upload my inline skating journey there. It's very useful to record yourself as what we see with our eyes and in our heads often looks completely different in the videos 😁 Let's say, I do an element and I think that I keep a proper foot position, then I check the video and boom, my feet positioned all wrong. For example, I have a tendency to push my knees inward when jumping or going backwards. Now I'm working on keeping my knees straight. It noticeably improves my stability.

@@TheMalni Oh you are so right about the video's. I always feel like I am squatted down way low and really go low to absorb impact when I jump, and on the video's I am straight up. Same with skating backwards, I feel like I am twisted around great and my feet are just right, on the video?? not even close. It will definitely humble you to see yourself on video and I go thru that every single edit!

Come out to Apex on a Thursday night at 8. The whole Raleigh/Durham blade scene gets together there each week

Nice skating you two! Seth makes it look so easy too.😂 I went out today and bought a pair of Playlife Reactor aggressive skates. Basically they are the same skate as the USD Sway 60. They look amazing for the money. They have Kizer flat frames. Nice quality. Cant wait to try them out but Im nursing injuries like you 😢😂

Those skates look really nice, hope you enjoy them! Yeah, if Seth weren't my son, I would be jealous of his progress. He has really come so far in the year we have been skating and I have had so much fun skating with him and watching him progress. I feel like I am constantly nursing an injury or two or three. . .its just a fact of life when you get older. I generally skate with injuries unless I just can't move, which is probably not the smartest thing to do. At 53 you may be starting to feel that clock ticking like I do where you know you only have so many good years left, and I really hate it when I can't skate, it feels like I am wasting that time. Hope you heal up soon and get out on those skates. Are you able to skate all winter, or does the weather prevent that?

@@theaverageoldguy Yeah I definitely feel the clock ticking with regard to being able to skate. And seeing my son get stronger while I get weaker makes me feel bad (for myself) lol. As for winter here there is no skating from December to mid March at least so I will be healing during those months, hahaha.

@@theaverageoldguy I spent the last 8 year not doing much physical kind of hobbies. I was learning how to build and fly FPV drones. So these drones are great for when you can't do much physically but they give you an out of body feeling and it's like you are flying like a bird. You wear FPV goggles that have tiny screens inside and fly the drone with the goggles on. There is no limit to what you can do and how you can fly, its crazy. Closest thing to flying. Almost like flying a wing suit without the wind going past you. They are nothing like the DJI style drones you get from best buy that basically fly on their own. These are all your fingers flying them. These drones are fast, tough and agile and you can build and repair them yourself or buy a ready made one. I go out to big office parks and dive the building towers or I fly in open multi level car parks. I also fly in an old abandoned Goodyear Tire plant. It give you the adrenaline rush of flying without risk of hurting your body. look up Mr Steele FPV or my FPV channel called DerelictFPV on RUclips ruclips.net/video/ZLsKYqBP-0o/видео.html to get an idea. Or just FPV drones. Look at the more recent stuff as everyone is digital now and the view is crystal clear in the goggles. Also you can have tiny ones to rip around a walmart parking lot or in your house even or large ones to do long range cruising. There is also a whole subculture and trick book like in skateboarding. I was doing tricks at a construction site and got stuck on top of a crane! Talk about adrenaline! I had to climb the crane to recover it. But you don't need to do crazy stuff like that. Anyways just a though in case you want to chase the adrenaline rush and rest your body at the same time. It's pretty fun.

@@AWS-Blading Man I know how you feel about the getting weaker. My son decided he wanted to be a weightlifter at about 14. He could barely do anything with the bar and 2 big plates and I was still able to bench 200 lbs at a 150 lb bodyweight at that time. Fast forward 10 years and he is benching almost 400 lbs, deadlifting 600 and squatting almost 500 and I can't even bench now because of a shoulder injury and deadlifts and squats are gone because of my knee😭

@@AWS-Blading That FPV Drone looks really cool and the abandoned buildings look awesome, reminds me of being a kid and rummaging through an old dog racing track grandstand we had in our town. That seems like it would be fun but could get expensive!

@@AdamLenz Bikers always scare me because they move so fast its hard to keep track of where they are or know what lines they will take. It is fun to watch good bikers though, we have several at our park that can do really cool stuff. The way I skate, I'm sure I'm a nuisance to just about everyone!
