Keep up the great work my Older Brother George who passed away last December loved watching your videos and was in the process of altering his van and RV using your videos as inspiration I remember him showing me your videos so I subscribed and seeing your video pop up made me smile thinking of him. Thank you for all that you do and hope you know you inspire many much love!
Great way you solved the problen of the slats on the bed! I just did my bed in my 1987 J9 and used a high quality, custom cut foam of only 4". Its actually very comfortable to sleep on.
I usually like to make my mattresses out of 4 inch memory foam! My client bought this mattress and asked me to install it into the van. I didn’t realize how thick it was until it was out of the box 🤷🏽♂️
@@Dualex_Builds I have been trying to reach you. I am extremely interested in having you do some renovations in my RV ASAP!!! How do I reach you, or how can you reach me?
Another inspiring video! We love your commentary and your dedication to making your projects better, not just completing them. Love watching you problem solve when issues come up, and you creative solutions. Big fans!❤❤
Crazy skills! I really enjoy watching your work. Years ago I built a teardrop trailer, so I know how complex it can be and how you have it all figured out. Keep up the amazing work!
Another great video. You make it look so easy. When things don't fit or work right, you always have a fix for it. You are a talented carpenter. It doesn't appear that you take many short cuts. I've watched a lot of your builds and they are always top notch. I think you found your niche, camper and camper van builds. Thank you for sharing your project. I look forward to part 2 of this build.

It's crazy everyone in my community is starting to sell their houses and living van life but nobody has anything built crazy too. People spend over 100,000$ for "luxury" and it's not even remotely close to this ya know what I mean. Love the vids
You do great wood working, really enjoy watching your vids, been doing my van upgrades for years. Just enjoy the thought you put into your builds, Bill
My couch slides out into my bed too-although not over the kitchen. Maybe on the next remodel. lol Great design! I have a shiki buton-basically a futon that I sleep on, I just fold part of the side next to the wall over during the day for a backrest. No cutting involved, about 5" thick when you're sleeping on it, and very comfortable. Just an option.
I've slept on futons all my life. It's hard getting used to normal mattresses. My back always hurts badly when doing the switch. I hope you don't experience that.
@@charisma-hornum-fries I seem to be able to switch back and forth easily. Some friends I visit really want me to stay in their homes-so I do. But I prefer my van and shiki buton.
I have a similar bed design in my van except that the sliding part is made of iron pipe and is supported by the iron pipe ladder when fully extended...
You do some great work and you have a great outlook once you miss the mark you figure it out to make it right alway glad to see your work keep up the great work young men 🤗
Hello DuaEx, I've admired your work remodeling vans and creating storage and space in seemingly impossible places, so on to my reason for making this post I have a two-part sectional couch which I would like to raise and also create a daybed sort of situation and some storage within the raised space. What ideas of any might you have for something like this?
Damn you're amazing! How much did all this cost if you? Now I do have some questions how are you suppose to get by during the winter if you were to live full tike van life?
Made me chuckle. I has the same issue with a mattress i got from amazon. Expanded to 10" and left no room in my laal van. Its now in my spare room and i had to by a cheaper thinner one that works perfectly. Nice work on the sliding bed design btw
Mr. Dulex, please tell us how why you put the achor for the slat system on top of the bed frame instead of on the bottom so it not only kept the slats alined but also acted as a stopping block so you did not pull the slide out of its place. I did not see that action in the bed slide system. Please elaborate?
Great Job! Building out your own van is such a great challenge, not just for your body but for all the things that no one ever taught us. Adapting and over coming challenges seems to be my van story also, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Glad to see other van peeps go with this style bed, its what I went with also! You will enjoy the ease of it and the room. I would be careful with that cooktop tho, don't jump in the bed to hard and crack it. Great workmanship. You have a new sub!
Nice, have been planning to do this too, also you can buy a pre-made system like this (with foam mattress already cut in half and wrapped in fabric) by buying an Ikea day bed (and using the leftover side parts for something else)
And this is why I watch your videos. The first time I saw you extended the bed I saw the way the boards lifted up and I thought uh-oh. Most people ( including myself) would have said I can deal with that but you went the extra mile. I would love for you to build a van for me in a couple years. Do you think $15,000 would do a build?
Great build. Glad you got the electric knife. A sailing channel ordered a mattress like that and they cut one or two layers off of it for fit and comfort, have your shop vac handy. LOL 😂 Have you ever thought about using any lightweight metal studs for framing ? Thanks.
DualEx- Absolutely love this idea/design- but then again, so much of what you do aligns w/ my own needs/parameters. That said: What I seek/want is a "bed"- that isn't permanent. Why tie up real estate 24/7 when you only use it 8hr. a night? (So....potentially a modified Murphy Bed type, w/ a 6-8" air mattress, inflated nightly) Any ideas?
Without Kreg's and Dewalt's help, where would we be? My gramps would be shocked at modern tools. He built mills, cabinets, houses, doors, even the old Disney Studio. I inherited his tools. He would be impressed with your talents.
First and foremost. Your work is amazing at the least. I truly respect your dedication and craftiness with skill. One question. My wife dream is to have her own food truck with a spin. Is it possible to have you think about this project. I truly respect any answer but of course to say yes is out of this world. Feed back would be mind blowing. Appreciation always wateva the answer. Salute to you again.
Where are you based out of? I'm up in Washington and am planning on getting my build done by like end of next year. I've got some great concepts for layouts I've not yet seen in any videos, including a full size stand up shower, bigger than most residential showers lol!
Can I get a list of all your fave gadgets that would work for a man on the go? My husband is a master craftsman but full time dad now. It's been almost a year on the road with me and the kids while I am travel nursing. We love our new life but he needs some upgrades this Christmas as he continues to remodel our little home. We love watching your vids! Not a lot of old school teachings like this anymore! It's all in the details. Stay blessed and happy holidays!
What's wrong with you that you need such a thick mattress? Isn't the bed supposed to double as a sofa? The bed is way too high which means to have climb up like a small child and then you cannot sit up in bed. A rock and roll bed is so much better.
11:18 maybe you mentioned it in the video & i just missed it, but how did you get the sliding frame to stop in the right place so it wouldn’t slide out of it’s slots? or are you just being careful not to pull it too far? i hope that makes sense.
Never get the wood get in contact with the metal of the car. The water from the humidity in the air will "condense" at the colder metal when it is getting cold outside. Then it is in contact with the wood and mould will follow soon. Between wood and metal always have some armaflex or cork...
Those are wood to metal screws. They look like wood screws but have a self tapping tip. That was also the proper sized hole for the nut. I didn’t have it tightened all the way when squeezing the tool the first time and didn’t re-record it when I re-seated and tightened the tool. I like to show my mistakes sometimes

much love and respect do you do work in the DMV area? I need a build out for a work force development program in 2023. Once again thank you for the shows.
The way the bed slides out over the counter and stove is worrying. Also, I feel like this setup will not last very long. Like the wood is structured well, but overtime... the bed is going to wear down and it'll all just need to be replaced with sometime more structurally sound.
