    i think it should be illegal to put relaxers on children. especially since we have more than enough evidence that shows a direct link btw relaxers and reproductive health issues like fibroids and endometriosis. a child cannot understand nor consent to those health risks (and they shouldn’t be encouraged to). not to mention the psychological impact as well. it’s abuse imo

    For some reason, people still see long afro hair as being unusual. I've had to move away from the "raised hand and mesmerized eye" many times. I don't let strange people touch my hair, because I don't know them or where their hands have been. Call me mean or whatever but I have slapped away a hand or two.😠 ROFL, I have not had the sniffing experience yet that's wild. Staring doesn't bother me because I stare back and that makes them uncomfortable. For me, there is no problem with people asking questions about my hair because I see it as an opportunity to educate. I don't expect people with straight/wavey hair to understand the stages of my coily hair. Sorry, relaxed nor permed girlies are not natural IMHO. Natural means how hair grows out of your scalp without bonds being chemically broken with a relaxer or created with a perm. Otherwise, what would have been the point of the natural hair movement in the first place? I'm with you on the length issue. Just accept the length it is and wait for it to reach WL.
    To me, the greater issue with little kids and relaxers is one of scalp and follicle injury.😢 Little ones are still growing and their scalps and hair follicles aren't even mature yet. We don't know how much damage is being done or how much toxicity is being absorbed through their scalps. It isn't even clear what their texture will be when they get to preteen.
    Some people who have no edges are beyond the point of growing the edges back. They have had traction alopecia for so long that the follicle is dead It doesn't really bother me they made their choice and they are grown it's not my business. Unless they ask me about it I don't even pay much attention to it other than feeling a bit of sadness because it didn't have to happen. Regarding trimming, I guess some people just want their ends to be even, crisp, and sharp all of the time. Personally, I know my hair grows at different rates, and its growth pattern usually forms a U shape. It doesn't matter how many times I cut it bluntly straight across within a few weeks my naturally curved U is back.

      So many great points! Commend you for engaging in conversation to educate. Tired me sometimes and am not in the mood at alllll!!!
      Relaxed hair is people’s real hair though altered. So maybe we have virgin unaltered hair to be more precise. It’s like having painted nails vs non painted, they are still your natural nails though one is altered

    Def feel the touching...I went to a blk HS and it was common for girls to have straight hair, braids, or hair tracks. (Wigs and crochet stuff wasnt really a thing we embraced yet.) My hair was always in chunky twists or marley braid. When i got my hair pressed.. All of a sudden everyone was amazed my hair could do that. People were even touching it! I get that it was new but that it was the weirdest week. HS is just weird...

    I understand why parents relax their children's hair (mine was relaxed from 8-13) but I definitely I agree 100% especially in this day and age of all the knowledge we have that we should NOT be doing that. In fact, I don't agree with any chemical hair services, or extension braids or locs until at least 16 because the scalp needs AT LEAST until then to mature.

      I would never. I got my relaxed at 9. But it's better to actually be careful and take the time and care to keep it up until they get old enough to tear it up on their own. And later, they will appreciate how the relaxer was held off😊❤

    Pi, You had me cracking up with you looking like Tatiana M Ali when she wore a similar hat you have on in this video, making those facial expressions 😂😂😂😂.
    Touching my hair and staring and asking "is that your real hair" like they have never seen long textured hair before. Yes make it make sense frfr😒
    Thanks for sharing 🎉🙏🏾💜💐😀

    If people touch my hair, I sometimes touch their hair also and make it awkward 🙃 Close family and friends get an occasional pass, though 🙂

    The hair touching attempts don't happen anymore. It happened a lot when I wore my hair loose. Many a fools almost drew back nubs from trying to put their germy hands in my head. What sane person touches another without permission? My PTSD kicked in a couple of times.
    Asking if I'm wearing a wig or hair piece. That didn't really bother me. It jus caught me off guard.

    Relaxed naturals aren't natural… then we may as well say the argument that yt women have posed that wanted to join the natural hair community is valid….

    • @CoilyDiaries
      @CoilyDiaries  3 месяца назад

      not quite. the video was to open a discussion of whether the naming was/ is accurate. if you paint your nails they are still your nails, just painted. virgin hair/ natural hair might be more accurate since relaxed hair, though altered is still someone’s real hair
