  • Today I ride the best motorcycle trail across Tennessee, the Trans-American Trail. I head out to Tellico Plains Tennessee on the Royal Enfield Himalayan with a group of ADV riders during the first ever Smoky Mountain Bike Week. This trip I will ride for several hours and end with several water crossings in the Tellico sections of the Trans American Trail.

    Hey that looks like a lot of fun, I’m watching this from England btw. Beautiful country there. I liked your sound effects, especially with the river crossing, which makes me laugh and I liked the slide guitar playing as you did your own crossing. Really cool. Anyway, thanks for sharing this. It was fun and I’ve subscribed and hope to see more. 👍

      Thanks for the nice comments, Glad you enjoyed it. Funny thing, I rode with a gentleman on the Tail of the Dragon today from South of Paris. He is here in the states for 7 months riding. Thanks again.

      @@skitchonwheels I looked up the tail of the dragon. It looks fun. I love riding twisty roads away from cities and towns. Good luck with your adventures. They’re fun to watch and your sound effects are funny.👍

    Another great video buddy. I love seeing the Himi out there. Looks like a ton of fun.
    I am headed out on the George Traverse in a couple weeks. Looking forward to it.
    I don't know if I could ever 2 up out there.

      The Georgia Traverse sounds like a great time!! 2 up off road won't be anything I do anytime soon : ) The Himmy can do a little 2up on pavement maybe. Thanks for the encouraging words, I'm trying to do a few more videos this year but life gets in the way sometimes. Have a good ride!!

    Not sure where you're located but I'm in W. North Carolina so if you ever want to hit the trail hit me up.
    Also, when you are doing river crossings, put your phone or any other electronics in a safe dry place.
    Look into the Smokey Mountain 500. Some of the same roads in this video but tons more miles covered.

      Thanks for the input, nice point about the phone... I never even thought of that! I just heard of the Smokey Mountain 500 2 weeks ago. I definitely want to do it, my work schedule is changing so getting 5-6 days off in a row to do it will be possible. West NC is close. Does the Smoky mountain 500 go thru there?

    I appreciate your humble honesty in the vid. On tires - personally I would rather have an aggressive off-road tire than a 50/50 because, again for me, the shortcomings of the tire on tarmac are far outweighed by their advantages on dirt. Kind of boils down to what you want the bike to do.

    • @skitchonwheels
      @skitchonwheels  2 месяца назад +1

      I'm needing a change real soon. Still figuring out what the next 2,000-4,000 miles will look like. I'm going to tackle the change on my own, 1st time changing....should be fun! : /

      @@skitchonwheels It IS fun. Get some reasonable hand tools. Use lube. Have a spare tube on hand in case you pinch one (assuming you used tubed tired on a RE H-I don’t know). If possible, have a pal ready to come bail you out if things go sideways.
      It really isn’t a big deal, but it does take some experience to learn how. 5 years ago I would not have imagined that I would change my own tires and now I really look forward to it. A pal showed me how the first time and I was off and running after that. Def a skill worth having.
      Edit: come to think of it, I got a flat on Witt Rd on my TAT run a couple years ago…

      @@RGB872 The RE-H is a tube tire. Good insight to have a buddy handy on my first try or at least a phone call away. What tire do you run? I know it's different for different bikes usually but is there a DIY friendly brand of tire for my first change?

      @@skitchonwheels I ride a DR650 and here are a few thoughts, worth exactly what you are paying for them: my favorite off road combo is Pirelli Scorpion Rally (not STR) front and a Dunlop D606 rear. I have also liked Motoz Tractionator Rallz, D606, and IRC TR8, on the front. I hated the k270 front. It just did not track well for me.
      For the rear, if I am feeling cheap, I go for the Tusk d-sport, or a Kenda K270 / Shinko 244 (very similar tires).
      I think the front is more important than the rear in terms of staying upright on trails so favor a DOT knobby. YMMV. Good luck and have fun. :)
      Edit to add: Shinko 244 may be friendly for a first time change. I have heard some people complain about the d-sport rear being difficult but I guess I was just lucky. Both tires are cheap, so messing up would not hurt the wallet. :)

    Enjoyed your video. I had a 2021 himi that i sold last December. A few suggestions, ktm 390 foot pegs fit the bike, wider more stable. I had the mitas EO7 (old version, not the plus)on and they performed well on gravel and sand, but not mud. Seat concept seat made big difference for long ride. I traded up to a bigger adv bike , i felt it was too underpowered for highway. Rode the eastern TAT and i Enjoyed the bike on the trails, easy to service. It was the long ride to the trails that made me sell it. I dont think you'll have that problem though.

    • @skitchonwheels
      @skitchonwheels  2 месяца назад

      Thanks for the insight. I never thought of the foot peg exchange but that could really help! I think by the time I ride the full TAT I will figure out if this is the bike or not, I would need to ride it across the states back home. Kind of a concern of mine.

    Great video! If you want to do more riding like this then the bar risers are a good idea. Proper boots are also well worth the investment. Check out on-line reviews and recommendations. You did really well riding that type of terrain if you had not done a lot of it before. I hope you enjoyed yourself and want to do more in the future. Clubs and riding camps are a great way to improve your skills. Your Himi, maybe with some mods, in the hands of an expert could do almost anything. No need of a BMW or KTM etc. Nice to see the family having a great time at Dollywood. Best wishes to all!

    Most people doing the trail only film that one crossing. I assume rationing disk space? But there are a lot more crossing than most people show.

    • @skitchonwheels
      @skitchonwheels  7 месяцев назад

      Those are the only crossings I've been on. I think people find the rocky crossing difficult because of the alge makes it so slippery. Do you have a favorite crossing? I'd like to see it. Thanks for watching and appreciate the comments.

      Thank you for the support. The Himmy did great! Yes, it was a GS 310. It did have more street tires vs off road tires on it. Most of the GS BMWs had street looking tires.

    Just about to get some boots. Looking at RST and Fornas.
    What crash bars you use? I might do some green laning on my Himmy but weather here pretty foul.
    Love across the water from a Brit always!!! (Must try and visit my cousins more. Philly, Ohio and Arizona)
