How long did it take to figure this one out? I swear the SoulsBorne community are some of the most creative, out of the box thinkers in the world. I LOVE IT!
Right?! Like is he just trying a bunch of shit himself? Is it a team of people experimenting with different ways? It's awesome.
For anyone struggling with this it is the easiest fight in elden ring if you want it to be. Use Mohgwyns Sacred spear and mimic tear. Grab lord of blood exultation and alex shard. Enter boss room, wait. When she is about 30 feet from you summon mimic. Heal and run at her and bait her by left corner of room entrance. Start spamming skill and your mimic will to. Back off when stamina down and reup on fp. Then smack again. Phase 1 down in 30 sec. Phase 2. Roll into her as she lands and roll away when flower blooms. Wait for flower to start disappearing, then go spam until 3 strike. Let mimic hit while you reup fp and spam again after spin move hits mimic. Done in a total of 3 minites. 5 times trying to get the method. Hope this helps!
*This still works in 1.12.*
The real 'cheese' here is the fact that if you kill Malenia with certain duration-based damage (like Howl of Shabriri or Volcano Pot), while she is in her critical-recovery animation, she enters her second phase with very low HP.
As for the walking behind her part, just move forward as she starts moving. If you are locked onto her, you don't need to move left or right, just forward. Then move slightly to the right as she starts turning. You want to be slightly more to her right side if you want to use Freezing Mist, because it causes her to flinch towards the left.
So the weapon still knocks her down? Very good to know!

This cheese is even VIABLE on a Level 1 run!
Details:
The hard part about using this Cheese at Level 1 is meeting the requirements of the Dragon King's Cragblade.
To use the Dragon King's Cragblade you need need 37 Dex and 18 Strength:
Getting the 37 Dex is the hard Part:
You start with 10 Dex
+10 from the Dexterity knot Crystal Tear (Physick)
+5 from Radagon's Soreseal
+5 from Prosthesis Wearer Heirloom
+5 from Godrick's Greatrune
+3 from the Lazula Glinstone Crown (a hat)
Which brings you up to 38 Dexterity!
It doesn't even require Millicent's Prosthesis!! So you don't have to do the bad ending of her quest!
For the Strength:
You start with 10 Strength
+5 from Radagon's Soreseal
+5 from Godrick's Greatrune
Easily nets you 20 Strength
Meaning you CAN use the Dragon King's Cragblade at LEVEL 1!!!
The 2 required Spells are Unseen Form (requiring an Int of 16) and Poison Mist (requires a Faith of 12), are easily usable with Marika's Soreseal (+5 Faith and +5 Int) and the Lazula Glinstone Crown (+3 Int) you're already wearing for the Dex bonus.

Just be safe, bring at least 8 Flask of Cerulean Tears (FP Flasks) into the fight.
At level 1 you only have enough FP to cast Poison Mist 3 times before needing to drink a flask, and she takes 2 casts to Poison. So be sure to give yourself plenty of leeway.
I did this today on a RL 1 PvP Twink i've been working on and didn't want to burn the tree for Dragon King's Cragblade so i had to find an alternative.
Use a Stonebarb Cracked Tear Physick for increased poise damage.
Iron fist Charged R2>R2 will break her poise letting you crit her.

I once skipped phase two on accident. I went for the critical while my summon smacked her upside the head and triggered phase two, when the cutscene was done I landed the critical and she instantly died
This 100% fair fight, if the devs included the items and effects to work like that then it's fair , they could easily program things to not work with certain bosses but they leave it open

Did this cheese. Took me many attempts. Days. Like 50 or so attempts. Yeah just fighting her might have been faster... Anyway. Got a few notes I feel I should share.
The first phase is the most likely to fail. That's the approach. When she approaches the chair she'll sort slide. That's a feint. You need to move to the right a second LATER.
After that comes positioning. Perpendicular to her back is not the back of the npc because of her stance. When approaching and doing a target lock you'll notice the back is near the right leg. You can reference her head direction.
Phase 2 positioning is right in front of her chair (Then move a little closer to her) There's a chance that improper position will alert her on Frostbite. You'll want to start with frostbite because that's the one that does most of the damage. The rest is a game of waiting. It takes about 8 minutes to get the hp down. The next part of Phase 2 is to make sure she has the right amount of hp. This will vary a little for everyone depending on how much damage you do. I had best success when her hp was over "e" in Malenia. Finally Thundercloud form has a small chance of not doing its job. Nothing to do about that. Start over. If you do manage to land that critical. Then comes the volcano pot. I actually went with Shabriri Howl instead of a consumerable.
Phase 3. She should have 1 hp or something and poison will kill her. But for this step I actually killed her with Glintstone pebble so she doesn't have the time to attack at all.
Things to remember for phase 3 is. Is to have a shield a staff red tears and glinstone pebble equipped. If the poison and glinstone fails. You can always just hit her.

Tried this a few times. It takes forever, and if she decides to do her spinny move after you knock her down, she doesn't stun and you die. You have to get the charge attack in with the perfect timing where she's not knocked down, but her AI hasn't activated yet, and then if you fail, you have to wait all that time again.
Of course, this comes out after I finally learn her fight the hard way, dodging waterfowl and all. Darn
the beauty in some of these cheese platters is amazing
1 tip: Storm Blade. Works on Malenia and every other enemy in Elden Ring.
For some reson she keeps attacking me every time i try casting freezing mist.
I've tried this around 20 times now and god damn thundercloud form is so unpredictable. Half the time it doesn't knock her down, the other half it kills her outright and I dont get the chance to throw the pot before her phase 2 transition. I think I'm gonna try good old Ordoviz's Vortex (the original Malenia cheese!) instead as it's more reliable at knocking her down.
And I've beaten her a couple of times before so no advice needed. I just really want to cheese her to give her a taste of her own medicine!

Definitely anticipating your Shadow of the Erd Tree DLC Boss Cheese strategy Walkthrough,especially since im on new game+ and have no other save profile ,i tried starting a new build that was beyond ridiculous i really didn't notice how many hours playing was involved, nevertheless i heard the difficulty actually scales with your level so yeah im at level 350+ so im gonna need sum Wine with my Cheese....

Today , what we WILL DO….
I just did the cheese, still works, I have a video that shows the same thing basically. Few tips: 1. You can walk up behind Malenia like literaly touching her ass when stealthing up behind her, even after you lose stealth. 2. Positioning for the poison/frost is pretty specific, she will see you when she staggers from frost damage if your too far left, this also is the same for Thundercloud form. If your to far right it will miss most of the damage and wont knock her down. 3. I was successfully doing everything but the cragblade wouldnt stagger her after Thundercloud form, easy fix just upgrade the sword as much as you feel comfortable, I went right to 9 and started 2 handing the weapon before thundercloud form, and didnt have that problem anymore. Willing to help others if your stuck cause Malenia sucks lol
Would her health reset on phase two ??? Im doing all the damage but when i go to phase 2 she has all her health back?

@@estebangallegos9286 i had one where her health reset on phase 2, watched back a vod, noticed i didnt do enough damage during the crit to kill her, you want her health to be zero before you finish the animation from the crit, and before you throw the pot. Hope that helps!
@@jasonbright8888 id say just make sure her health hits zero before she starts standing up from the crit, and make sure shes already dead before you throw the pot

if anyone is struggling to get the crit hit like i was. what i did was poison mist her entire first phase and then let my mimic tear kill her second phase. you need +10 mimic tear and a decent build and it will be done easily.

The levelling up system in the DLC is separate from the base game. You can enter it at any level and enemies will be scaled to your level

I hope this still works, after the latest patch. They've nerfed the Cragblade. It's supposed to be not too big a nerf on that one, I think, so we'll see. I'm going to try it.
If the Cragblade doesn't work, what else do you suggest to knock her down and get the crit in? I have a weird build -- combined Int/Faith both at 60 plus a ton in Endurance because I like wearing the heaviest/best possible armor as well. (I have time to farm and don't like having to choose.) So maybe Cannon of Haima or Giantsflame Take Thee? Any other suggestions?
I have the 9+ version of the weapon but I'm not able to get her into a critical stance. What's wrong?
So this is what happened to me! I summoned 2 randos to help me and we were fighting her normally, but right at the end of phase 1 she got staggered and riposted. I don't remember clearly if one of them actually threw her a pot/something or not (i didn't), but at the start of phase 2 she was already dying. Super disappointed with that. I'll try to solo her in NG+ with no pressure
Her second phase had close to full health for me, I followed everything correctly.
I love this guide but I found a much simpler solution: Mohgwyn's sacred spear maxed out + mimic tear maxed out. Did it on 1st try. Note: weapon scales off arcane and weapon upgrade so make sure to max out the weapon and your mimic tear and use at least 20+ arcane. (I also mean the spear's special ability which uses FP so make sure to bring enough FP flasks).
They just nerfed that spear with the 1.12 update, reducing the blood buildup from the skill by half or more. (60% first hit, 50% second hit, 40% third hit -- but I would imagine that since the first 2 hits are not anywhere near as likely to stun any more, you're not as likely to get that third hit in a row in, so you're mostly going to be getting those first and second hit numbers). It will take more than twice as long now to proc bleed on her with it.

@@Angi_Mathochist buuut I had the poison activated and it was still working in phase two taking down her health just only her health was like 75% full vs the sliver of health in this video. Doesn’t really matter anymore for me though I beat her with the blasphemous blade. Was easier for me fighting her head on than to try this over and over though this is an awesome cheese! 🧀
Confirming this worked today (Jul 4)! sometimes when going into phase2 she will just straight waterfowl dance, or other moves as well, not just the rot dive, but if you can dodge her long enough, the poison kills her. THANK YOU GURU!

I just beat her with my mimic ash, my thought is to just keep stagger attacking her between you and your ash. I have about 30 in endurance and 40 in strength
I have the black knife armor unseen and assassin's Gambit and it is not nearly that easy to sneak up on her. Even the stats to boot. I'm level 350. Even the no sound and crouching talismans.
If you dont have that weapon you can use the lions claw ash of war on a heavy weapon

Less than 24 hours after I spent several respecs, finally beating Malenia in readiness for the DLC. I feel like the guru is mocking me.
I might be dumb but I spray the poison mist and it doesn’t get her, it just sits there and disappears. It might be the update that happened the other day but I’m not sure
Spray the poison then wait 5-15sec before spraying it again

Not the hardest just happens to be very annoying and has the authority of dealing "your health" amount of damage.
Edit: it worth noting that holding the thundercloud form all the way when charging at her may cause it to miss her so it is better to release the skill button when you are almost on the side of her. Otherwise she will escape the stun and start her mosquito dance.

I don't think it's a misuse. The tools for stealth are part of the game. There's nothing at all wrong with using the tools you're given and your brain to figure out creative ways to solve problems. And personally, I find that way more satisfying than just repeatedly hitting and dodging until I finally learn the pattern and get lucky enough to survive long enough to win (only to have to learn a new pattern for the next fight).
When it comes to Tyrannicon, his videos are so awesome, I hit like before the video even starts playing. Do the same!

Update I actually was able to do it with using tasker flames instead of thundercloud. But when I broke her stance and used the volcano pot it only took one fourth of her health instead of all of it. I summoned black knife tiche and was able to kill her. 😂😂
