It is very much akin to Sekiro, where once you figure out the patterns and rhythm, you retain that skill. Sekiro bosses unfortunately ALL become nothing once you learn to abuse every single opening. I salute your effort and attrition!
A similar strat I once saw was using Ogha since his greatbow knocks her down all the time, i guess you could also add your own greatbow on top of it and keep her far away.
This is pretty neat, the mimic and I usually blasphemous blade spam her. Phase 2 when she goes into scarlet aeonia I hit her with ice breath from a distance- rinse and repeat. Ping ponging agro to keep mimic healthy also helps to have a heal in your spell slots as the mimic will use it sometimes.
Identical to my loadout & strat when I finally overcame this PIA boss. I couldn't succeed using Tyrannicon's cheese oddly enough and went back to defeat her by...just beating her!
Damn all three of us really used the exact same loadout 😂 here I thought I discovered a new strategy when I would knock her down with the blasphemous blade ash of war and hit her with frost breath.

Truly the purest of cheese. It definetly will help many people who are having trouble with her. I remember struggling for over a day and ending up caving and summoning
Latenna is the best spirit ash cause unlike all the other ashes she doesn't make the bosses spin in constant aggro so you can focus on 1v1 with the boss while she just keeps the pressure and stagger so you know it's actually a fun summon... unlike 90% of the summons "in my opinion at least"... and hey she also waif material
She's the best summon aside from Tiche for me. I don't even use Mimic anymore. The consistent damage is arguably better than most summons (like for Elden Beast, she's the only one who can damage him almost anywhere he is). She's not meant to draw agro (obviously), but I prefer agro on me for most action RPG's anyway. It makes it easier to tell what bosses are doing and you don't get caught by them suddenly switching agro on to you.
@@snunpai I hate tiche and mimic personally they are far too op to be fun to the point they make the game boring while latenna just supports and rewards you for playing well and keeping agro as opposed to all spirits that draw agro and have you stay back like your some side character XD
I think you can use a rune for invaders it boosts summons apparently. Not sure of it is not patched out. You get it from lord of blood. Saves you some time.
Latenna and the nightmaiden & swordstress puppets carried me all the way till I got to the snow giant after that I needed someone that could do damage and dodge alot of attacks so I brought out Black Knife Tiche and damn this girl goes to town so much that you gotta keep up or she'll make you look like your just standing around doing nothing.
I remember distinctly summoning Tiche for Godskin Duo and I started buffing (Golden Vow, Erdtree Blessing, FGMS). She took care of a solid 20% by the time I was done. She wasn't having it that day.
Wow lol I literally just done this with her and it works very well especially when Luttena is max level 10. Her arrows seem to really hurt her, malenia did try to aggro towards her a couple times and I almost messed up if I didn't have the aggro talisman on then she would have went full on at her. Shewww the talisman save my ass or hers rather lol. Thanks for sharing 👍👍 Still works like a charm
Really makes you realize that Malenia has a moral code, unlike some people. She doesn't attack you as aggressively if you're (at least what she thinks of it) not engaged.
also according to some other video, if you summon latenna, or any summons really, before you summon them you activate moghs great rune. this gives all your summons an extra 20% damage boost among things. now, if anywhere, in a huge range really, any bloodloss occurs while moghs great rune is active, your summons get another 20% damage boost for like a minute or so, on top of the permament other 20% damage boost. Finally, you can also throw a cursed blood pot on the ground, or, at malenia herself. I dont think it has much effect for latenna, unless it would make her attack faster... but the pot effect itself, whether it misses or not, also adds another damage boost to summons. so you can make latenna do a good deal more damage that way.
I didn't know about the innate 20% boost. I was under the impression I have to proc bleed/curse pot. It didn't cross my mind since the tests I was doing with this, I was restricting myself from attacking her to see if Latenna could truly solo her (which she did). I will be using Mohg's rune when I test the other archers though!
I'm doing a sl1 run with a lvl 10 latenna and she's amazing! Latenna is seriously the goat! Her range is further than her visual spawn some times! Commander Niels spear and mohggs great rune and seppuku buff her up nice and if you need just drop a warming stone or that sheild ash of war she can have a longer happier picnic and if you need to keep her alive for aoe nukes just drink the ally damage boost perfume cuz it makes the next hit they recieve only do a tiny % it normally would! There's a ton of great ways to use her!
The first time I really abuse Latenna was at Astel... Because that was such a large area, and the boss jumping always around, and at least Latenna constantly deals damage all the time...
@@snunpai Yes I was basically running around trying not to get hit or catched by that fucking teleport grab. and hitting astel with magic... So in some fights also it does not seem like it Latenna may be a better ash then the mimic tear or the black knight.
My strategy for Malenia was similar but different. I used Oleg, and my goal was to keep Malenia focused on me, dodge her attacks, and have Oleg initiate from her backside. Once he hits, I would jump into a double greatswords power stance attack, knock her flat on her face, swing one more time, and roll out. Since I dealt more damage and was technically the one who broke her stance, she would go right back to focusing me. However, I had to keep looking at her for it to work, because the moment she focused Oleg during Phase 1 it was a loss, because Oleg suicides at the start of Phase 2 and loses half of his health.
My first Elden Ring build was severely bodged and didn't do any damage. But I had Latenna, so I upgraded her, leveld HP and Stamina, equipped shabriris woe and made that my build. It worked surprisingly well.
If it does, that would be amazing. This doesn't seem easy to me just due to the fact you're playing decoy. If it does work for someone though, I'd be happy.
I finally had some time to try this, didn't work well. Malenia would constantly agro on Latenna. Even pulling Malenia far away I just can't keep her agro on me. I suppose it takes some time to learn how to hold Malenia's agro. I just don't think it's worth the time invested. I think your time would be better spent learning Malenia's moves and how to dodge them. Not knocking this method, it's just not for me.
She's honestly easier that way. As long as you have answers for her big moves and just punish the small moves you're comfortable with, she's trivial. That's sorta the point of any boss, to learn them. To me, she's a boss from Sekiro (which most are easy if you adapt to the game's core mechanic of deflection).
I don't know if this is just me, but Malenia always directly runs towards Latenna and gives a shit about me. I even run directly past her and she still keeps attacking the spirit. The Shabriri's Woe also doesn't seem to work. Any ideas ? Patch 1.09.1 / PS5
Shabriri's Woe has never worked. You have to hit Malenia when the fight starts and have her chase you. Running into her or past her won't draw agro. It can be anything like throwing daggers, spells, or even just punching. Briar armor is good for this since it does 1 damage when you roll, so you dodge into or away from her while keeping agro at the same time. Once you're far enough away, she won't ever target Latenna (unless she manages to get very close). If that happens, you can just drag her away again.
Bro I cannot get the start of this to work no matter, what on the latest patch, probably tried 20 times, no matter what she always drops agro on me and runs at latenna, I can never get her into the corner out of agro range for latena
I just did it now; It still works. If you're having trouble drawing agro, use throwing knives to keep her chasing you until Latenna's out of range. A rapid fire bow would also work pretty well, as long as some form of damage is done to her even if it's miniscule. You can use briar gloves or Fire's Deadly Sin for passive damage so you don't have to attack with your weapon.
I havent tried the armor, i suppose thats worth a shot, but I had terrible results with throwing knives, most of the time she dodged all of them giving me about a 1/8-1/10 success rate. I did finally find a strat where hugging a wall and punching her a few times seems to do the trick about 1/3 of the time@@snunpai
I used this trick for the Fire Giant. You make him chase you at the top of the map on the rocks and then place Latenna at the bottom and he gets stuck in the rocks and she just fires non stop on him... Not very quick but very easy.
I wish there was an option to make latenna use different arrows of your choosing, like if these were fire arrows instead of magic arrows it would be awesome since malenia is weak to fire , there is another archer ash that does sleep arrows but not sure if this boss can be put to sleep
Fun stuff - don't look back or you'll turn into a pillar of salt :).... I was wondering about lock on, because I have noticed when using incantations like lightning strike, frenzie burst or even the bolt of grandsaxe weapon art - if I initiate the L2 weapon art, for the Bolt of Grandsaxe, or the L1 for the incantations, WITH OUT having lock on, and then lock on just at the point where the animation is just about to release - the enemy is way LESS likely to dodge the lightning spear, lightning bolt, or the frenzie burst. It is a risky yet valid tactic, does take skill to get the timing just right, but would most likely be defined as cheese - sure, why not. It is a tactic that I have sometimes decided, during the animation sequencing to sometimes target another more aggressive enemy's aggro. It sure beats "you've died" again - just to learn to memorize dodge, duck, dive and dodge - if you can dodge Malenia, you can dodge a ball.
I have a video of beating Malenia with a +0 Ohga using the Bolt of Gransax. It works as you describe since the release animation will only snap when the bolt is actually being thrown. For comparison, if you use Mighty shot on a bow, the arrow is released as soon as you let go so by the time you lock on, you're already facing her and she can dodge. It's still possible but very difficult. Enchanted shot shoots at a literal 90 degree angle so it doesn't have this problem.
@@snunpai Interesting - I'll have to take a look at "Enchanted Shot", because I do enjoy being a archer - even a stealth archer.
@@sleven1160 Wriggly sword for the win!...that sounds bad, but you know what I mean XD
10 mimic + ice breath were my executioners as well in p2. p1 - rivers of blood katana.
I should be doing homework right now, but I enjoy this a lot more.
I've just tried this (sl 131, 60 vig, 15 end ). It took me about 5 or 6 tries considering how much more aggressive and mobile phase 2 is, but it's definetely viable if a bit slow. You, sir, are a gentleman and scholar
I was intending it to be a showcase of "possible but not optimal". You'd need some decent patience and mandatory dodging skills so I never considered this a cheese. I'm glad it worked out for you though!
really good find on her AI
this also works if you're just trying to heal, by unlocking off her, she eases off the pressure
Her immediate lunge off your healing is the ultimate disrespect.
Nice method. Glad someone uses my favorite spirits summon.
Super useful on my current challenge (no lvl up, no weapons upgrade)
That's a fun run. I used Night Maiden's Mist in mine. Pretty goofy to drop tear gas and run in a circle.
225 subs, your channel has been criminally overlooked, you are putting up top notch content and your production is nice, in case you are not big on Twitch or something just wanted to say keep it up! and wish you luck, you look like a pro already
Your words are very kind! Greatly appreciate it and I will continue to try and provide good content.
lol "aparently the way to kill a god is not looking at him", thanks for the trics because i've already experiment her stupidity by running in " circle " staying at whip range. Easiest P1 for me
Dual Whips on Malenia is fantastic. The extra bit of range just turns her brain off.
@@snunpai yeah she just walk being stager, as whip have blunt damage(except urumi), and often took a bleed proc! Was my no invoc run and it end to be be the best one
Zhou Yu: How did you get 100.000 arrows in 3 days?
Zhuge Liang:
I love this reference.
cool strat, nice video. congratz on algorithm gods, i wish u many many more subs.
Truly the purest of cheese. It definetly will help many people who are having trouble with her. I remember struggling for over a day and ending up caving and summoning
such an unprofessional video...
Great job.
The redmane knight's arrows are so strong they continually just knock her over lmao
This is fantastic..Ive used Latenna on a few bosses now, never thought to try her here...Good tactics! ;0
Latenna is really underrated.
This definitley good advice for those who want to beat her thanks. Wish I knew this sooner I ll try it on my next run.
Bro this is ingenious cheese.
Cheese is valid in souls. Just means you are smarter lol
I’ll try anything at this point 🙃
Tbh this is actually cool af and I would consider a "challenge" method.
I saw this video a long time ago it feels. I, finally here fighting her and had this in mind the whole time.
All those arrows in Malenia!
Really makes you realize that Malenia has a moral code, unlike some people. She doesn't attack you as aggressively if you're (at least what she thinks of it) not engaged.
What bothers me is the host watching the 2nd phase cutscene just to die to SA.
Host watches first cutscene.
Dies to the first charging double slash.
An Interesting new Technique!
Oh God you really Need to try that with the puppets archers
That's on the list!
Wild Malenias perceive eye contact as a challenge.
Very useful guide for me to fight Malenia
also according to some other video, if you summon latenna, or any summons really, before you summon them you activate moghs great rune. this gives all your summons an extra 20% damage boost among things. now, if anywhere, in a huge range really, any bloodloss occurs while moghs great rune is active, your summons get another 20% damage boost for like a minute or so, on top of the permament other 20% damage boost.
That amount of waterfowls shouldn’t be possible in one phase
It ends up being good practice at least.
Loyal Latenna claims another victory.
Radahn had cleanrot spears lodged into his back. Malenia has Lattenna arrows lol
Astel doesn't even really attack her as well. You barely have to agro.
@@snunpai Yes I was basically running around trying not to get hit or catched by that fucking teleport grab. and hitting astel with magic... So in some fights also it does not seem like it Latenna may be a better ash then the mimic tear or the black knight.
Latena is so damn good
Who'd guess a stationary turret strategically placed can be a mighty help.
This is why Latenna is the best waifu
My strategy for Malenia was similar but different. I used Oleg, and my goal was to keep Malenia focused on me, dodge her attacks, and have Oleg initiate from her backside. Once he hits, I would jump into a double greatswords power stance attack, knock her flat on her face, swing one more time, and roll out.
Since I dealt more damage and was technically the one who broke her stance, she would go right back to focusing me. However, I had to keep looking at her for it to work, because the moment she focused Oleg during Phase 1 it was a loss, because Oleg suicides at the start of Phase 2 and loses half of his health.
my fav part was when you said, " oh she didn't thrust.. oh wow". .. 🤣
That was crazy you figured that out 😂😂😂😂
I might try this. I struggled on my first round with her. I had no problems for the next 5 or 6 rounds. On, I think NG+6 and really having trouble.
Latenna such a queen
Sir, my respect. I will try this.
Love this summons she took over 4k damage of astel the naturalborn void before he came close lol
She is REALLY good at landing headshots. It's surprising to see a solid 500+ on a volley when it connects.
I've only beaten Malenia by summoning Let Me Solo Her... LOL. Thanks for this info... I'ma try it for sure.
I found this video hella interesting, I think niche things are the most interesting stuff in elden ring
This is what I have been attempting with my RL1 run using daggers and lightning spear to keep aggro and do some damage.
"Hot ice...you heard me...hot ice....I heat up..the ice cubes....it's the best of both worlds!" -The Brickma Build (great movie)
My first Elden Ring build was severely bodged and didn't do any damage. But I had Latenna, so I upgraded her, leveld HP and Stamina, equipped shabriris woe and made that my build. It worked surprisingly well.
I love how busted the ai can be
Great find, will definitely help those stuck with her.
If it does, that would be amazing. This doesn't seem easy to me just due to the fact you're playing decoy. If it does work for someone though, I'd be happy.
when you play the summon for the summon, to get porkypine malenia
Mohg's Great Rune would be excellent for this.
I enjoyed this.. Thanks for the tips
To me, she's a boss from Sekiro (which most are easy if you adapt to the game's core mechanic of deflection).
elden ring really is a sandbox game! thanks for the video : )
Malenia is such an unfair boss. Nice to know the players can make the fight unfair for theirselves, too.
I used this trick for the Fire Giant. You make him chase you at the top of the map on the rocks and then place Latenna at the bottom and he gets stuck in the rocks and she just fires non stop on him... Not very quick but very easy.
Melania is an Enderman
Interesting Method :) great video
I wish there was an option to make latenna use different arrows of your choosing, like if these were fire arrows instead of magic arrows it would be awesome since malenia is weak to fire , there is another archer ash that does sleep arrows but not sure if this boss can be put to sleep
You can throw AOE pots at her.
My preferred playing style is actually stealth - I enjoy the strategy of being stealthy. You know the old saying "stealthy is healthy" :) It is very challenging to stay in stealth playing ER... Thanks
