    My method for Japanese is learning 1 kanji, 3 words & four sentences a day. Every 2 weeks I also revise everything that I've learnt previously to make everything fresh in my mind. It's a slow process but it's not too much pressure and I'm remembering everything.

    Note for myself:
    In the learning journey (Learn language or some new skill…):
    ⏰~ burn out => ⏰to review your study habits
    1 Being overly critical or underestimating yourself
    -overly critical: feeling not enough => quitting and making excuses
    -not critical enough: 👀that your progress is slow
    => Set a realistic plan: Long-term, mid-term, short-term goals => constantly measure how much you’ve accomplished:
    -short-term: daily tasks
    -middle-term: help you track your progress/weekly basis
    -long-term: set on a monthly/annual basis
    2 using excessive resources
    N app x
    1 learning method x
    => find the middle ground (traditional + new methods) => something well-structured that helps you learn progressively
    Main resource 50%
    1 app FC 25%
    1 app podcast 25%
    =>=>=>Lingopie
    3 Focusing solely on quantity
    => review
    4 Lacking consistency
    ?What material will I be studying for this level?
    ?What is the desired outcome of this level?
    => routines & habits
    5 Prioritizing passion over commitment
    Language learning is a journey of accumulation, not an instant transformation
    It require dedication, planning, and willingness to step out of our comfort zones

    in brief:
    This video, hosted by Zoe, a PhD candidate in sociology in France and Germany and a polyglot who speaks 7 languages, discusses common bad study habits that hinder language learning and how to fix them.
    1. **Being overly critical or underestimating oneself**: When learning a language, setting a realistic plan is crucial.
    This includes long-term, mid-term, and short-term goals.
    It's essential to measure your progress and adapt your plans as necessary.
    2. **Using excessive resources**: Due to the abundance of information online, people tend to hoard resources, thinking more resources will accelerate learning.
    However, this is not true.
    Quality and quantity have an inverse relationship in terms of internet knowledge.
    It is suggested to stick with one reliable app for each skill you're learning and not overwhelm yourself with choices.
    3. **Focusing solely on quantity**: Simply increasing your word count is not effective.
    Instead, understanding words and prioritizing daily reviews before learning new words is recommended.
    4. **Lacking consistency**: Language learning is about accumulation, there's no quick fix.
    It requires consistent effort over time.
    Setting realistic goals and planning ahead can help maintain consistency in learning.
    5. **Prioritizing passion over commitment**: While passion is important, it is not sufficient.
    You need discipline, perseverance, and adaptability to achieve long-term goals.
    Studying isn't always fun and comfortable, but pushing through the challenges is a crucial part of the learning process.
    Zoe also recommends using a platform like Lingopie, which provides language learning through watching videos in different languages.
    She concludes the video by encouraging viewers to share their experiences and questions in the comments section.

    Regarding time management, Zoe, I prioritise learning and the creative process by waking up early. I need to start work at 7.30 each day so I set my alarm for 4.30am. This way I can devote my energy to language learning, saxophone/guitar/hanzi practice, and other pursuits BEFORE going to work. After work, I am always too tired to learn/practice and just want to 'lunch out' watching movies/relaxing so I go to bed early knowing I have that special 'me time' to look forward to. Please keep the videos coming! 😃

    Excellent video. I have been trying to learn Spanish for over a year but I always get too busy to focus more on my learning. Technology makes it hard also when you can use it to give you the answer instead of having to memorize it . Discipline helps along with having a friend who speaks the language that you wish to learn

    Hello Zoe, I am enjoying your videos immensely. I'm studying Turkish and alas Lingopie doesn't have it yet. But I already found several points that you mention which are hindering my progress :
    - wanting to learn too many new words a day ( indeed I don't remember as much as I thought I would),
    - not doing this "passive listening" 25% of your total routine in the form of a podcast or other, which made me realize that when I see Turkish shows, I read the subtitles! So I'm switching to a little watching without subtitles, which will improve my listening and my level of attention.
    - being part of the "studying on my own" group: you're right, it's difficult to hold oneself really accountable. I'm fluent in English, French and Spanish and it occurred to me that I could do this exchange of conversations that you advocate in another video. I had never thought of that (I'm older and sometimes progress passes me by😁) so I'm looking forward to be able to help a Turkish speaking person speak in the languages they are learning and get this all important immersion in return. I'm not quite there yet, but soon. Teşekkür ederim : Thank you!

      اللغه الروسية نسميها لغة الاستثناءات لان لكل قاعدة في اللغة استثناء وشواذ عن الاستثناءات وهذا هو اكثر شي متعب في هذه اللغه ، بل اضافه لاختلاف تركيب الجمل عن اللغه العربية وبعض مخارج الحروف في البدايه صعبه لكل خلال الممارسة كل شي يصبح سهل

    Truly agree with the vocabulary learning. I used to learn English vocabulary mindlessly, just focused on the meaning and quantity, without learning the examples and context.
    Thing changed when I started using Cambridge Dictionary. When I come across a new word, I look it up and read all of its definitions, examples and relevant collocations/idioms. By doing this, I can comprehensively understand the word and know exactly how/when to use it.
    P/s: I really like your accent. Nice video ❤

    The foundation of language is sound. That sound is a continuous and dynamic change in sound. Deep learning is the method of imitating natives and correcting through feedback to learn that dynamic sound.
    Since the brain continues to develop throughout one's life, the learning methods for both adults and children, as well as for native and second languages, are the same.

    Bonjour Zoe. En gros, tu donnes le même genre de conseils que Steve Kaufmann 😊. Mon experience personnelle tourne autour de l'apprentissage du japonais. Pendant 6 ans, quotidiennement, jai étudié dans les livres, j'ai fait des listes de vocabulaire, essayer de retenir toutes ces regles grammaticales, noircir des pages à écrire des kanji, etc. Un jour , je rencontre un etudiant japonais avec qui je sympathise. Et là, catastrophe... Je ne comprends pas le moindre mot . Ses phrases sont pour moi juste des series de sons. J'avais oublié une chose essentielle dans l'apprentissage: écouter. Depuis un an, jai laissé tomber les livres, les règles grammaticales et me concentre sur l'écoute et la lecture via des podcasts. Mon correspondant japonais et moi, nous nous sommes revus. Très étonné, je suis arrivé à comprendre plus de 50% de ce quil me disait et je suis même parvenu à dire quelques phrases très simples, bourrées de fautes. Pas grave, j'en suis revenu encore plus motivé. Il me semble avoir plus appris en 6 mois qu'en 6 ans. Je fais la même chose pour les autres langues que j'ai apprises afin de maintenir mon niveau. A 60 ans, je vais continuer à ne plus apprendre mais a découvrir le japonais. Je compte me lancer , me jeter devrais-je dire, dans le coréen et l'allemand. 😉😄😁

    I didn't make any mistakes except setting a goal. I don't have a long time goal. but my english level is not developing now.
    It needs a time to learn any language, but I wanna learn various languages. I am learning english, japanese, chinese. And now I wanna start basic russian, malay-indonesian.
    I can be consistent becuz I have free time to learn languages. Thx!

    How do you put subtitles in so many languages on your videos? It is really amazing and I'd like to know how you do it!

    Enjoyed your videos and have subscribed. Can we learn in direct conversation? A chat learning kind of thing I think would be faster and more effective, thanks.
