Using Duolingo to learn a language is like studying addition to learn math. It can be useful to understand the basics and it can be fun, but if you actually want to get good at it you're gonna need to get more advanced sources.
the best thing to do is stay passionate in your language. just because someone says it's difficult or tough doesn't mean it is for you. learn things in sections. don't just rush everything. learn basic vocabulary like verbs or conjugations before learning anything else.
@@YaHya_The_CooL_ManWhen you're watching a movie, touch the screen and go to this section at the bottom where you can change the language and subtitles
Without *truly* loving to learn your language you cannot learn it. Decide the reasons you want to learn it and use that to propel you forward. I currently have 12 streak on duolingo for Spanish and am about to make it 13 💪🗿
Yesss! I wanted to learn Russian over the summer (took way longer than just the summer for me) then I changed the language on my phone, turned on captions, and talked to myself out loud in Russian. I have got to say leaning a new language was probably the best thing I’ve done! -and yes, I used Duolingo.

I’ve been learning Japanese for more than 800 days and can confirm that I am only just now beginning to have the skills to talk in normal conversations
Pro tip to learn a new language: travel to the country that you wish to learn the language and commit an offense to go to prison to be forced to learn that language
It may sound really obvious but surround yourself with people who speak the language if possible. Online video calls with natives or best option, go to the country. After coming back from Japan and getting the chance to speak with locals I felt I learnt more than I ever did from apps like Duolingo or Lingodeer because I was learning it from real people in real world scenarios Also hearing how little particles are just dropped irl is a weight off my chest. They hurt my brain in Japanese
@@ProjectFrenzy This year I made a friend who was from Japan. She taught me the pattern for counting. It was great learning from her and fun to try to follow along with her conversations with the other Japanese students at school
Tip: whenever you learn something, immediately use or say what you've just learnt, that way your brain memorises it as a casual talk , so it is more effective than just Learning in mind
ESL teacher here, also try doing what I tell my students to do: dedicate 10 minutes per subject a day. That means: 10 minutes listening to the language 10 minutes reading it 10 minutes speaking it 10 minutes writing it Slowly but surely this will increase language proficiency. You can omit writing if you want, but I guarantee 10 minutes per subject a day will lead to becoming fluent
@garrysmith1029 If you keep at it for a long time then 10min of each of these (40min all in all) will do. Of course mite is better but just as much as you need input you also need to make output to retain what you have learnt and actually being able to communicate in the language
@simonolesen3436 well yes but I still think you need more input but output is important as well. I think it needs to be more than 10 minutes per subject.
I've decided to pick up Japanese again for my required second language for highschool, and this video helped me so much that i have now binged your channel Thank you for not only teaching me new tricks to be more productive in academics and life, but giving me motivation to follow through with school well :)
that is literally how i leraned english as someone who grew up and lives in austria. I watched MTV daily and they had subtitles by default on shows that werent dubbed like "pimp my ride" and "next" i didnt necessarily like all the shows i watched.... but i learned... and that very quickly
This is actually really good because I’ve been watching anime for 3 years plus and now sometime I forget to read the caption but still managed to understand 50% of what they are saying
Sound advice, practising learning the language and then immersing yourself in it works really well since you're having to follow along and try to make sense out of things!
Protip: Add sticky notes for vocabulary around the house, for example "거울" on your mirror, it will help so much. I did this for learning English so i hope my comment is understandable! 😁
I'm a native Spanish speaker, and this is exactly the reason I am able to speak English so well (compared to my classmates at least). One day I just decided to keep my media (computers, phones, games, etc) in English and never switched back to Spanish haha
Yeah, I’m French and it’s the same for me 😁 I’m 13, and my English level compared to my classmates is top tier (and yk, us French have a bad reputation for the matter of speaking foreign languages 😅)
I just started watching a show in mandarin, with both English and mandarin subtitles on. I'm really enjoying it and I think it helps me familiarise myself with the language, although it's kinda painful because for some reason mandarin speakers seem to be competing at the fast speaking Olympics, and I can't read at lightning speed.
@@dabbing._.dahyun I took french for 7 years in school up until this year. I had relatively good grades in all tests and on the semester. Bonjour Monsieur is literally the only thing I remember.
This is the input method. You get information in the language you're learning. After some time you will do the output, which is just like it sounds. You'll start actually practicing. It doesn't mean you won't practice it during the input time period, but your main is to receive information. Language apps are great but you will make better progress (much better) with doing what he says in the video.
I recommend the Netflix one in these circumstances: - You are rewarching a show you've watched 2+ times - You start doing this while you already know a bit of the language
Also a tip for English speakers trying to learn a language (such as Spanish) is just to forget most of the things about English cause English has a bunch of phonetic sounds but since it’s only 26 letters in the alphabet they’re all cooped up into those 26 letters and a letter being next to or close to another letter can change the sound of that letter, but like in Spanish , for example, everything sounds exactly like it’s spelled, and it doesn’t have as many phonetic sounds as English does, so a mistake a lot of English speakers make is they try to apply their rules for grammar and stuff, like for example a word like “esquite” would be basically pronounced like ‘eh skeet eh’ but english speakers would probably see it spelled and would think it’s pronounced something like “is quite”, that’s why I think it’s probably better to just learn how to speak the language before learning all the grammar and stuff
According to the language teacher from the latest pokemon games, knowing the words “hello”, “thank you”, and “delicious” in a language can get you quite far
