Yeah, it's frustrating that the courts didn't see her life as in immediate danger. Like, the woman forced Gypsy to undergo several life-quality reducing medical treatments and it's likely any attempt to leave would have ended with her mother killing or putting her in a vegetative state.

The kids eventually got away, but the daughter had been so affected that she now still fakes her illnesses by herself, for the attention. It has been years and every few weeks/months she has a new 'serious' illness or tries to overdose (never enough to kill her but enough to be hospitalised and get everyones sympathy again). my mother is currently in the same prison as her (Chillicothe correctional center) and said she was able to talk to gypsy one or twice and that she was a sweet girl. i feel so bad for her and what she had to go through, and I don't think she deserves to be in prison. it should have been charged as self-defense and I hope she continues to grow as a wonderful woman and is able to find happiness and love once again.
Her lawyers and many other people in court hated how she got prison because the entire time she was doing this she was on drugs and Victor was mentally ill himself. However since she planned this they had to put her in prison sadly.

This is Münchhausen-by-proxy syndrom. There's also been a rather infamous case of a mother feeding her young son salt increasing his sodium levels and ultimately killing him. Munchhausen is a real mental disorder and I think it's good that movies like this one exist to help spread awareness.

I actually knew about gypsy and Dede before this movie came out. I don’t condone murder but I understand why she did it. Sometimes when you feel trapped you snap and want to end the life of the person who never had your best interest in mind. She might be in prison now but she has expressed relief and joy to not be under the care of her mother anymore.

I would trust my mother to do this. She lied to me about other family members and says I need to take her pills and stuff she brews against my "deficencies". I don't have any clinically recognized deficiencies. I don't think the stuff hurts me - they are weird herbs and vitamin pills and stuff like that but she likes to tell me that I'm gonna get really ugly and sick if I don't take all her stuff. She likes to control and I'm happy when I'm eighteen next year. I feel with Gyspy, the mother in the movie made me sick cause she reminds me so much of my own.🤢

(Like when you take a vitamin C pill, even though you have enough Vitamin C). If I think it's something too strange I always find a way not to take it. At the time when I wrote my comment I felt emotionally charged cause that person in the movie really reminded me of my mom behavior-wise. But she is not really hurting me and different from the movie I have a father who protests when he sees something too strange. You don't have to worry.

Her mother's been shown to be just as toxic and controlling and I believe she was even heard on camera saying that her daughter "must stay thin" or something along those lines. Couple that with the fact that Eugenia still sees herself as a young teenager despite being almost 30 and even responded to a video by Coach Greg, saying that being a grown man, he should stay away from young girls like herself. the sad thing is, this really happen and the mom had munchausen by proxy, Gypsie was imprisoned but she said that she felt so free even tho she was in jail, I think she's out now after serving her sentence, she's living with her father and step mom, go look into her story if you are curious.
Honestly she is much more "free" than she ever was. It's sad that Gypsy *had* to kill her mom to escape her abuse.
She’s not yet out. Gypsy is married now; 31 years old and still in prison serving her 10 years sentence . She’s a good girl, she survived a lot and sure will survive prison too and be free once and for all.
@@phoenix8412 I see, last video o saw about her was 2-3 years ago and thought she would be out by now, I’m happy for her freedom tho, but she’s right, her mother should be the one in prison but she was trapped in more ways that one and drugged constantly.
She is still in prison she gets out next year or 2024

Unbelievable that someone has decided that this poor girl had to be in jail. The system failed her when nobody checked whether she had those illnesses, failed her again with the social worker and yet again even though everybody knew by then that she killed her mother to escape and have a real life. What justice is that.

I feel bad for kids who goes through this. Taking medications you don't need is actually bad for you and your teeth. Worse are ones just wanting to make kid feel unwell and make It seem that it's the kid's illness caused it when they literally put salt to make the kid slowly die and the boy died.
Imagine mother abusing you, autoimmune disease supresss immune system and uti appear do to fear and all doctors give antibiotic , and that bs never go away and person don’t know they have suppressed immune system because mom to them is normal, they love her! It’s fog!( not just one doctor in one town, like four, even specialist - uneducated personnel I say)if person don’t escape they can die and no body knows what happened

I actually knew about gypsy and Dede before this movie came out. I don’t condone murder but I understand why she did it. Sometimes when you feel trapped you snap and want to end the life of the person who never had your best interest in mind. She might be in prison now but she has expressed relief and joy to not be under the care of her mother anymore.
I watched the documentary of this story sometime ago, and , seriously, I couldn't express just how mortified I was afterwards. I'm glad Hollywood took it to a permanent shot.

I would trust my mother to do this. She lied to me about other family members and says I need to take her pills and stuff she brews against my "deficencies". I don't have any clinically recognized deficiencies. I don't think the stuff hurts me - they are weird herbs and vitamin pills and stuff like that but she likes to tell me that I'm gonna get really ugly and sick if I don't take all her stuff. She likes to control and I'm happy when I'm eighteen next year. I feel with Gyspy, the mother in the movie made me sick cause she reminds me so much of my own.🤢
She's obviously making you take her meds cause she refused and does not want doctor to know she's not been taking it. She need the meds to keep her sane for sure. It's not good to take meds not meant for you if your healthy and not need those meds.
Sorry you had to go through that experience you need tell the doctors what she does to you, those are her names on the med bottle not you it's not right for her to forced what you don't need
@@CutieRingoJoy Thanks for the advice. I looked most of them up though and I'm sure they might be unnecessary, but not really harmful. (Like when you take a vitamin C pill, even though you have enough Vitamin C). If I think it's something too strange I always find a way not to take it. At the time when I wrote my comment I felt emotionally charged cause that person in the movie really reminded me of my mom behavior-wise. But she is not really hurting me and different from the movie I have a father who protests when he sees something too strange. You don't have to worry.

As someone who was raised by a malignant narcissistic mother, facing neglect and abuse to boost her ego, Gypsy's story feels reletable on a level I hope no other person ever feels.
Just the amount of control. This show perfectly captured the feelings of isolation, neglect and abuse that come when these people control your world to such an extent...

I just watched all the 4 parts. Does this story remind anyone else of Eugenia Cooney? Her mother's been shown to be just as toxic and controlling and I believe she was even heard on camera saying that her daughter "must stay thin" or something along those lines. Couple that with the fact that Eugenia still sees herself as a young teenager despite being almost 30 and even responded to a video by Coach Greg, saying that being a grown man, he should stay away from young girls like herself. I believe we may have a similar tragedy if someone doesn't stage an intervention in Eugenia Cooney's house.
