I am thankful I live in a time where I can learn about a beautiful craft made by skilled artisans in many places in our world. When life feels stressful or scary, it always makes me feel hopeful to learn wonderful new things about the people all around the globe.
Good video, showing the traditional manual proces of candlemaking. What I like the most is that everything seems to be done calmly, without any stress which is so common in today's industry. Nevertheless I wonder if there's any other advantage in adding the wax in so many layers, as opposed to, say, moulding the candle and maybe finishing it as shown here, other than following the traditional craftmanship? In any case, the presentation is great, and it's always good to see that there are still people who stick to the old ways, and I hope it's also financially sustainable, so the craft is preserved...

And again, the victory of tradition over common sense, the cargo cult of antiquity without understanding the reason for such a sequence of actions. Thicker hollow base - to prevent wax from spilling out. It was impossible to make an even and thick enough wick due to the low level of technology, so it was made by wrapping a stick in paper. Drying the base in a standing position - since it takes too long to attach each stick for hanging, and the worker had to work from dawn to dusk in order to somehow provide for himself, that’s why arranging “standing bundles” on the shelves. To save wood or coal for heating the wax, they heated it only at the very beginning, because the wax thickened at the end of the procedure, and it had to be spread by hand instead of the normal dipping process. And so that the resulting product was not disgustingly crooked (otherwise it would not be sold for normal money), it was leveled with a knife or a plane. Also, drying in bundles makes the candles crooked due to uneven cooling and sticking of several pieces into a heap, which is also corrected with a plane. Now, being able to keep the wax warm, monitor the temperature, use modern higher quality wicks, finally hang the product properly... They repeat the old process, carefully reproducing all its shortcomings. This is either stupidity and the cargo cult of the old, or “it was better before” marketing. This is the approach of either hucksters in pursuit of profit, or fools. Proper maintenance of traditions is when you understand why this or that action was performed, and look for ways to simplify the work using new technologies. Your traditional candle will retain its qualities, but will become affordable to people, and will not cost as much as an airplane wing.
Aw how very kind of you thank you so much my son who's taught himself japanese think everything there is just wonderful, the people are so very polite, and everywhere is so clean and respectful not like here in the 🇬🇧 xxx 😘 🤗 💐
It's just a traditional candle.. probably a good one if you like Japanese candles for sure but in no sense are these the "highest quality". I wouldn't use them at all if I wanted the best possible light for my work.
I cant help but feel like many traditional Japanese artisan goods were just excessively luxurious and needlessly expensive items made to distinguish the rich from the poor. One of these candles is probably worth 20+ regular dip candles and it will burn 90% the same. Regular people are not buying these things
@dianaa7743 Because “traditions”. Nowadays it is fashionable to call something outdated and requiring too many resources and labor supposedly “better”, this allows you to increase the price and sell well to those people who are not able to think critically.
Bonjour, merci à tous les deux pour le travail que vous faites, j'imagine que vous utilisez de la cire d'abeilles ? Commercialisez vous vos bougies à l'étranger ? Si oui pouvez vous m'envoyer un lien internet pour acheter ? Merci !
The wax is made from the seeds of the Japanese wax tree, which are harvested in Japan. The seeds are pressed to extract the wax. The wicks are made from straw, Japanese paper, and silk floss. These candles are handcrafted by skilled artisans.
@kodawari.official where can you see these studies? If they were truly conducted as "scientific research", there should be articles and materials left for evaluation by other scientists.
@@deadcxap755 Agreed. I've spoken to several Professors from different Universities in different countries. Because I was really interested to see if it was at all possible. And once they stopped laughing all of them agree the test has either never been done, because it's clearly not possible. Or it's a claim by a person somewhere in the middle of nowhere where people don't question such claims. And I'm yet to find anything proving the claim. Which is a pity.

I highly doubt you can get a 1/F frequency from a candle. I'm not sure who told him that but it isn't true. Still, the candle is nice looking.
The 1/f frequency was proven through joint research with a university! Thank you for your wonderful comments!

I’m an admirer of Japanese artisans, but I found this looked unusually dirty. I felt it was done like this for the sake of it being done like this.
Wax on, wax off 😁
Потрібно японців привезти до України подивитися як у нас роблять свічки🎉😊
Зачем так усложнять?
By creating annual rings, it becomes a flame with a relaxing wavelength!

This must be the stupidest way to create a candle I've ever seen.
Horribly inefficient. A product of a culture which values human life and, threrfore, human labour, very low.
