I got this 6cm thick oak table. And I want to make a semi hollow body. I'm gonna use the strength of the oak for the bridge and I've been looking at small pieces of wood they usually use for headstock, like 20 x 10 centimeter pieces of rosewood, for instance. I intend to make cavities and then simply putting this headstock wood on top. I don't know whether it does anything with the sound because the bridge is still mounted on the oak, but it's mainly to not make the body too heavy
@@mcclane12000 So maybe you aren't a pro luthier. But to build a homemade guitar that's playable and actually sounds good musically is still an impressive feat. #respect
hi! just to give you a quick update, i just bought the wood to start working on it! i've been listening to your band to, you guys have some pretty amazing music on there! i'm going to order the neck next week and start working on it as soon as it arrives
Faceless Excellent! Just get stuck in, there’s plenty of RUclips videos that will help you out but as I said, just ask if you need any advice. Thank you re the band, we’ll hopefully get more stuff out this year!
very creative use of tools...all done in a 3 x 3 ft garden shed! better finish work is all that is required...more sanding...thicker clear coats...looks perfectly functional though, i may try one myself now. so thanks :)
dave e Thank you! Limited tools and space sums it up really. As far as finishing, it was made from plywood so I couldn’t sand too far without busting through a layer! The clear coat was more about protection than aesthetics...but I am incredibly impatient so you’re quite right! ;-)
I really like how this came out. Quite unique doing a 335 shape but with the flat top and back. I think, because of the construction (a routed/chambered solid wood body), it's more accurate to compare it to a Tele Thinline style rather than 335 semi-hollow style.
@@mcclane12000 I'm wondering about trying to mold/laminate a couple layers of that really thin mahogany plywood Lowes sells as replacement door skins, to get a slight arch on the top.

@@MinecraftAndIndie totally do able. Might I recommend a telecaster body, it's a flat top with no tricky contours so shouldn't take as long. Download a template, don't do it by eye like me, then you know the hardware should fit well!
Hello, good job !! have you the dimensions of positionning Bridge Holes please ? i hav no documentation. On a kit a bought, 4 holes are missing on your video from 7,09 mn to 8 mn.
beetlemusique Right. What you see me doing is measuring from the nut to where the bridge ‘should’ be based on the neck’s scale. I then manually positioned the bridge with two strings through to get near enough exactly where it should be for string spacing and intonation. I simply marked the position of the bridge and tailpiece and drilled the holes accordingly. Hope that helps!

Faceless thank you! I gave the neck pocket a slight gradient which did the trick, I’d probably have just shimmed it otherwise! The boards will (I think) have been 18mm each. Good luck if you do one!!
John Velarde Good question! I’m nowhere near it now but I think it was around 15-16” at its widest. The size was dictated by the boards that I had, hence free-handing the shape to fit!

They have a product out now called 2k clear in a spray can .it has a valve in the bottom of the can you smack on a hard surface and it Mixes the hardner in with the clear .you have to use it with in 24 hours and you have to use a real respirator because it would be like inhaling drop lets of super glue it’s 25.00 a can but 1 can would have done to or 3 coats on your guitar than you could have sanded it with some 1200 grit sandpaper and it would have been like glass .And the best part you could pore gas on it and it would just role right off .if you ever do another guitar you should check it out 2k clear .i have used it on small parts instead of mixing it up and dirtying a paint gun. The guitar sounded really good.
