    Good looking guitar.
    You managed to overcome difficulties and, better yet, had the courage to show them in video, so we can learn from your mistakes.
    I reckon most of them should have been dismissed if you had drilled ALL the holes in the top before finishing.
    Another thing that baffles me is that you decided to omit the f holes. I don't know if that detracts from the overall acoustic sound of the instrument, but definitely should have made installing the controls a lot easier.
    I assume you did it on purpose to get a more modern look, so hats off to your ingenuity to make the installation work.

      Nah. It’s not as common but it used to be no big deal to see arch tops and the occasional Semi without F holes. D’Angelico and Jim D’Aquisto both made them. Just a choice.

    • @jeffmckinnon5842
      @jeffmckinnon5842 Месяц назад

      A good finisher would rather the holes not be pre-drilled, for a few different reasons, but either way, the top coat was always going to let go, because the satin finish was cured, and needed to be sanded. That is why the rest of it came off so easily.
      If it was all done in a day, this wouldn't have been a problem.
      By letting it sit, even for a weekend, the gasses dry up and lose the ability for subsequent coatings to stick properly.
      We have to learn the right reasons that things like this happen, if we are going to learn from them....

    The piezo cuts frequency because of its impedance! So when you turn it on it basically acts as a capacitor (anybody correct me if I’m wrong). I have made the same on a strat. Only way around it is with some active electronics. If you roll off the volume pot however, you should get mostly pure piezo sound

      Even an experienced Luthier might not have a bladder mold for an arch top. It costs a fortune to make and it only does one thing. It is for mass production only.
      It was likely, the only reason that he had someone to sponsor the video.
      You can't make a ply-wood arch top, without a perfect mold for the top and another one for the back.
      If he would have carved these by hand, there wouldn't be a video with a sponsor.

    • @SuperGuitarProject

    I think you should not passively mix piezo and magnetic pickups because of the impedance differences. So I would either add an active buffer/mixer circuit or give the Piezo it's own output. When I do this, I route the piezo to the right channel of a stereo jack. Like that if you have a mono jack plugged in you'll have the mag pickup. If you plug a stereo jack you can route each pickup through it's own processing chain / amp

    • @66Gollum
      @66Gollum 5 месяцев назад

      Theoretical you are right, but in my guitar it works good. As far as i can see, the potentiometers should be wired the other way round, so the amp always sees the same resistance and the signal goes to the middle. I would also try a high resistance for the poti at the piezo (1M)

  • @Flea-Flicker

    • @SuperGuitarProject
      @SuperGuitarProject  Год назад +2

      hi that's an interesting question but I haven't figured it out yet, my best guess is that I need to use a stereo guitar jack instead of a normal jack

    • @SuperGuitarProject

      The way I wired this piezo worked alone well, but when I added humbuckers It didin’t work the same, possible solution could be using stereo jack with three wiring spots, and wire piezo ground/hot to that third spot. I haven’t tried it out yet but I’ll try to fix the electronics in future

    Damn phones. Kit made in China? Hopefully not but what isn’t made there these days. Which is why the only choice I’ve seen so far is cut everything yourself. Hope these are made in the USA or any place but China. It’s a geopolitical thing and I’m tired of sending them money so they can build their military. Ok, on with the show. Thanks for this. Finland, man I hope they make this kit there and not just a reseller. Sent them an email. Thanks. OK so I watched to the end and seeing that you built this in Finland is very cool and gives me hope that the body was also built in Finland. I won’t go this way if body made in China. Glad you posted the mistakes as well. Top to wavy, needs more prep time to get smooth. So did you take some old Seymour Duncan pickups and rewind them? Novel approach. Hard for sounds to come through RUclips. Piezo pickups would be good for the Boss or Roland sound effects and no need for add on kit but it means using the same jack. Not sure how that’ll work with the other devices but hey it could be ok. Great video to learn from. Thank you

    There is no meaning of kit, if neck , fret board etc are missing and we have to split sides on bending machine, none of home builder has these machines at home, you have to improvise your kit , so a home builder can build this beauty at home with out having expensive machine.

    Too expensive for me. I can make one for a lot less money. It is a nice kit as far as the body goes. But the kit does not come with the fret board and neck woods. Plus, the cost of shipping to the USA is expensive as well. Good video, just not going to spend the kind of money they want. I made my version of an ES335 from scratch. Sold it last week. Was thinking of making another one. Thought a kit would save me some time. But I won't be buying this kit.

    I guess this is a VERY cheap kit. No mention of any of the wood supplied. I guess wood is wood. It’s not an arch top. The one color, (white), binding is unremarkable. The neck and headstock design is unremarkable. A great project for a middle school child and his Dad project meant to bond the two of them and if anything goes wrong”wrong”…. so what? As long as the builder isn’t looking for their video to be inspiring beyond a middle school level, it will do a some kids great experience building their first guitar
