  • I was considering moving the strap button on my semi-hollow Gibson ES-339 Studio, and could not find a lot of information about it, so I documented the process - maybe it will help someone out! A similar approach might work for other semi-hollow guitars like the ES-335, or even hollow body guitars, but your mileage may vary!

One thing not shown in the video: I should have taped the surface of the guitar before injecting the expoxy - at some point near the end the little tube came off and I ended up with expoxy on the outside of the guitar - not good. With some quick cleaning and later polishing it now looks like it never happened, but I could have done without the extra excitement.

Just finished and I'm glad I did it! I just used Elmer's since I don't have the fancy epoxy stuff. Seems to work fine and I reckon the peg screw will hold everything in place.

I think I'm going to give this a shot. Ive got an Epiphone Sheraton 2 that has the same issue. It's one of my favorite guitars but it pulls away from my body and has serious neck dive. I think this would help alleviate that issue. Thanks for the video.

This is a design I I hate about this guitar also! I have an Epiphone ES335 and hate how it sets against my body 🤨🤨😡but I like the sound and feel of the neck but when I put a strap on and stand to play its very uncomfortable .

Yes it seems like a small change, but it does make a difference. Many people seem to have no issue with it, but I definitely like it better now when playing standing up.

Thanks, a useful video, but you didn't show how you removed the guitar string that held the wood block you glued into place?

Hi, thanks for the comment. I just pushed the string from the outside into the guitar until I could fish it out through the f-hole, then cut the rest of the string off just outside the new hole for the strap button and pulled the string out through the f-hole.
