First bass player that comes to mind whenever I see a hollowbody is Jack Casady, nice build!

Hey Georg,, Good job. I wanted to give you a little tip for a more even finish on your future wood projects. even if the wood appears smooth you should sand through the grits from 80-220 going with the grain getting all the scratches out from the previous grit as you move up. For instance 80 than 150 than 220, than clean and stain. if the stain does not apply dark enough at 220 you can get away with stopping at 180 . Generally with hardwoods this will result in a nice even stain. But if the wood still takes the stain somewhat blotchy you can sand it off, do one sealer coat of shellac than sand it back and stain. the result will be the wood taking the stain a bit lighter but much more even and highlighting the grain.
This is not criticism just some things I have learned through the years woodworking. I think the guitar is cool and most importantly seems to play well. Rock on!

should have said stain or dye... The steps are the same for either, dye does usually have more vibrant colors.

@@aphone6529 thanks for the tips. Later on this year I'll do a Les Paul with a flame maple top, where your advice will come in handy :)

Love the color choice! There's something really cool about this style of bass.
I saw a video recently from I believe Framus & Warwick where they actually put a clear coat on first and then taped off the body to get really clean lines between the colors, but with a spray gun rather than wood dye by hand. I've seen in other videos you had a spray gun, so that might be something to look into for a future project

      Thanks :)
Framus probably used candy paint (translucent color). I've tried this on a guitar I'm working on just now, it worked really well.

I have the same kit from a different company that's been gathering dust for like 5 years in my indoor storage that I can't seem to bring myself to put together in fear of screwing it up lol I actually have 2, a bass and a 6 string, I was wanting to make one of each that both had my own unique look to them :)

gluing the neck in is quite easy and paint mistakes can usually be sanded off to try again. And maybe by telling yourself that it's ok to have some mistakes on a DIY build makes it less taunting to start.

@ It's the gluing the neck in that scares me the most. It's so permanent if I mess up lol

@@BriannaBeastMode on the positive side, the wood glue can be moved and adjusted until everything is in its right place

Nice work. But about decal - You have to put one layer of Tru oil on the neck, dry and after first layer glue the decal. After that put the others layers of Tru oil. I made this way and had no borders of the decal at all.

I did had layers of nitro under and over the decal, but somehow it didn't make the decal borders disappear. I had better success with proper waterslide decals (super thin). The decal that Pitbull provided was rather thick.

Where can I get my hands on this kit? Having trouble finding it anywhere.

    •  Год назад

it seems to be either out of stock or discontinued. It used to be on thefretwire.com and on pitbullguitars.com
I hope they'll bring them back
