  • Have you ever discovered you've made too few chains on your foundation? Here's how to add more chains to a too-short foundation! See the links here for more info!

    Foundation Double Crochet Tutorial: www.mooglyblog....
    Basically, when you come up short on your foundation chain, and you don't want to pull out your work, you have 2 options!
    Add more stitches using foundation stitches. This technique works particularly well for simple rows of stitches, such as single crochet, double crochet, half double crochet, etc.
    Add more chains using a separate piece of yarn. You'll want to pull this from an extra skein or from the opposite end of the skein you are working from since you'll have to cut a new piece.
    I hope that this tutorial helps you out the next time you find yourself a few stitches short of the first row! Thanks for watching! .

    WHAT A LIFE SAVER!!!! Thank you, thank you. I only needed two more chains in a complicated foundation row. I actually untied the knot and used the yarn tail, then tied a new knot and I'm good to go. 40 yrs. of crocheting, 40 yrs of too short foundation chains, and I'm just now learning this! Thank you again!!

    I leave my tail a little long, and if I ever need a chain or two more, I just use my tail to chain whatever I need starting in that first (last) stitch I made. Works every time and doesn't look bad.

    Thank you! I’ve been watching many crochet project tutorials and this is never addresses. It is just assumed that your stitches are correct. This knowledge is a real game changer and I will Conway continue to crochet. I was about ready to quit because I was so tired of ripping everything out and starting over.

    Thank you! I've been coming up short on a 252 stitch base chain, second row to be 251 and the pattern continues from there. Don't know where I'm going wrong but your tip should help solve the problem. I've counted and recounted, then ripped out again and again. Thank you so much and it's so simple!! can you do this if you come to the end of a work and realize your piece needed to be two more stitches or does it only work with the second row of a project

    • @mooglyblog
      @mooglyblog  3 года назад +1

      You can try to add stitches to the side of a finished piece, but slip stitching into the stitch of the row before you turn and chain up to make the next row. It's a little tricky, so it depends on where it is on the project and how it will show to decide if it's a good idea for a particular project! :)

    I have a pattern that has a 6 stitch increase on the front and end of the row for a shawl... for every row, I'm fine adding the extra at the end where you can chain three and crochet over them in the next row but this solves the problem of three doubles at the end of the row.... then I chain three and add three in the next row.
    Time to learn a new "stitch" or crochet skill. Thank you 😊

    Do you (or anyone out there) have any tips for adding width to WIP/finished cardigan? I’m working on the back panel and there are no gauge or measurements in the instructions. I’m now about 30 rows in and I’m fearing that it’ll be too small😕 I haven’t started the front panels or sleeves yet so I’m hoping I have some more leeway to fix it.

    Would this work to widen a scarf even though I crocheted more than 3 fts worth? As I was going, I realized it’s too skinny and am not happy with it. Hoping I don’t have to unravel and start from the beginning 😢

    • @mooglyblog
      @mooglyblog  3 года назад

      Yes, though it will be a little obvious - making it in another color would make it a design statement instead of a fix! ;) Just turn and crochet back across the "new" stitches and then sl st to the side of that row, then make a turning ch for the next row, turn, etc... I hope that helps!

  • @jayoon2980
    @jayoon2980 3 года назад

    How about for the next rows, what will be the next counts if there are already added chains? I’m a begginner and I’m just following from some youtube videos.

    • @mooglyblog
      @mooglyblog  3 года назад

      Once you have the number of stitches made for the first row, the second row (and so on) should have the same number of stitches as long as you're not increasing a decreasing. :) The number of stitches you put in that first row depends on what you want to do or what pattern you're following.

    • @mooglyblog
      @mooglyblog  3 года назад

      Perhaps - it's hard to say for sure without seeing it, but it's worth a try! :) Just find where you started losing stitches and add to that row. Alternatively, if it's just a small narrowing, you can work an edging or border all around, and put taller stitches on the ends of the narrower rows. If done all in the same color, it can be subtle!
