I find it interesting that the product came with a couple of scratches. In my experience, refurbished products are essentially brand new with only new internals. Hell, Apple sells refurbished products and if it weren’t for the generic packaging he would never be able to tell.
At a $30 difference with one year warranty, I can see how some people would justify this purchase. However, I can't justify the purchase unless It was $50 cheaper.
Thanks for covering this! I would say with the $30 discount and the one year warranty totally worth it. Better than taking a chance on ebay or FB market. Plus you know that it's not going to be hardware banned from online play. Like you said it's going to be used and over time it's going to get a little scratched like all devices do any ways. The only reason I could see not to get it is if you're a collector and want mint condition. If that's the case you're not looking for a discount. I a decide to get a switch this is the route I think I would take. Thanks again and such a great video!
I bought a refurbished Wii U from them years ago and it was immaculate. It had protective plastic on the screen and even the shell with brand new accessories. I was surprised your charger and screen had scratches. It seems Nintendo is contracting another company to refurbish their products now. That's really a shame and I'm glad you made this video. They may be small blemishes but I feel like compared to their old refurbished units there should be more of a discount. In this case, I would spend the extra $30 on a new one.
From what ive seen, Nintendo's referb department doesnt half-ass it like Gamestop or others might. And they have access to genuine oem parts. Referbs was also a good way to get consoles that are out of stock new (the switch was like this for a while).
maybe it's wrong of me to compare the two but after years of using refurbished apple products that were entirely indistinguishable from new, this does feel like half-assing. I get that the switch lite screens are probably more trouble than it's worth to replace by their refurb team but I would definitely expect a greater discount than $30 at this condition.
recently picked up a refurb 2DS LoZ edition from nintendo and it was in really great shape, looks and feels new to me. That convinced me to also pick up a refurb New 2DS XL and that should arrive in a few days.

Each refurbished console i've gotten from Nintendo has looked pristine so I'd personally say it's worth it especially because of the savings. The switch lite in the video is mostly good but definitely worse than the refurbed consoles I've bought from Nintendo.
2023 is the year to get and collect Switch hardware. I'll be getting a used Coral Lite this Thursday (directly from Japan, their used stuff is consistently pristine) and an OLED model during the Black Friday campaign. If the discounts are good, I might be getting a yellow, brand new Lite as well.
It seems to be a bit luck of the draw, but the refurbished Switch I got some time ago was absolutely brand new with no imperfections whatsoever. Not a single scratch on the thing, and it came with everything the retail product would--Joy-Cons, system, dock, HDMI cable, and AC adapter. Was indistinguishable from the retail product. It seems to depend on what needed replacing or maybe what subset of the factory got hold of it...there are surely a lot of units to go through each day. If you look up people's videos of refurbished systems directly from Nintendo, they're almost always perfect or near-perfect. I also got a refurbished New 2DS XL from Nintendo and that had a few very slight scratches (hardly noticeable) on the exterior but the screens and the interior were perfect. If you have a problem with a refurb product not being up to snuff, you can always call them as you do have a warranty.
It's a no brainer that the refurbished will come with everything just like as if it was brand new because if it didn't come with everything that is needed to run the Switch because refurbished is supposed to be better than used even though you're still getting a used system you're guaranteed that all the needed accessories are there that's why they call it refurbished. Also it's understandable a refurbished product is going to be worked on and anything that was not working on the product it's going to be replaced or fixed so why are you telling people what a refurbished product is when it is beyond and no brainer what a refurbished product is.
I got my Wii U refurbished back in the day (2014) because it was $100 cheaper and it was all I could afford at the time. I did end up having to send it back because the gamepad would lose signal of the console if it wasn't *right* next to the console, but they fixed it up free of charge, shipping and everything. Still have it to this day!
I ordered a refurbished New 2DS XL from Nintendo at the end of October 2020 (it looked brand new, no scratches or scuff dirty marks, etc.). Thought I should upgrade from my 2DS since Nintendo was no longer making the 3DS line of systems. Thanks for the look at the Switch Lite refurbished directly from Nintendo.
I don't think that dropped the ball at all, should they throw away a whole unit because if a hair sized scratch on the screen? Then again I've never been a stickle or for scuffs and scratches
I have a refurbished new 3ds, and its been great! I have done some minor things like change the buttons, but the system is great. Few minor scratches and wear, but the battery life and overall condition is impeccable. I got it for 115$ including a charger, and since the galaxy editions are going for atleast double that on eBay I'd say I made out pretty good.
I think it's in great condition and you can't keep stuf in "new" condition except if you never use it, as you said a screen protector will certainly hide the small screen scratches so it'll look as good as possible
Great video! Personally I haven't bought a refurbished Switch but I have bought other refurbished systems (2DS, New 3DS XL, and a Wii-U) from the Nintendo online store and they were almost brand new in every way so they were worth it for me for the prices when I bought them. Some of that might be due to getting them in the last year or two of their life but that was my experience.
That to me is not a refurbished unit, its a repaired second hand unit and at that price you are crazy not to pay $15 more for new. Ive bought a refurbished iPad Air and iPad Pro from Apple. Both were sealed in the different certified refurbished boxes which still looked great, but in no way could you tell them apart from a brand new iPad, Apple guarantee they replace the screen and the battery, that's refurbished. The rears were also perfect as well. I'd be pi$$ed if i got that and it would go straight back!
I think considering the two small scratches ..the actual discount should be more $30 ..I would be happy if the cost was $50~$70 less than the original ..
I bought my Switch Lite when they came out. If I were to do it again, I would still buy new. I would buy a refurb to use it to install firmware to play emulation station or retroarch. The current price for a used Switch Lite is $184.99 plus you have to buy the extra warranty. So buying from Nintendo is the better deal.

If there wasn’t a scratch on the screen I would of been happy with the purchase. As soon as I get a handheld device I put a glass screen cover on it as I can’t stand a scratched screen. It’s probably just one of my pet hates. Other than that I can see the attraction also having been a kid I can say that $31 may of been the difference between getting a switch or not and at that age I wouldn’t of cared if it had a small scratch on the screen. It’s always luck of the draw with refurbed items as yours had a scratch on the screen but others may of been immaculate all over with no visible wear and then it would of been a bargain!
I would have to say that maybe in a few years a refurbished switch would go up in value, I'm unsure about how much though. If it was just the box that was different it would probably be a minor difference but with a sticker also on the switch, it's easier to verify its legitimacy. I don't know how often Nintendo sold refurbished consoles and handhelds, I just know of the gameboy and 3DS. It would be interesting to see if any official Nintendo refurbished units exist for systems like the GameCube or the SNES.
I would consider a refurbished one for say the Pokemon version of the Switch Lite. Otherwise for any of the other colors I'd probably look for one under $100 with a damaged screen and replace it. Great video though! I always thought Nintendo was like Apple with their refurbished products where it would look virtually new.
Well, actually Amazon or BestBuy used to sell Switch Lite for a discount price for only $189.99 with free shipping. In that case, a refurbished Switch Lite only save you below $20 and it isn't a great deal.
I think it is a good deal to buy a refurbished unit they give you a 1 year warranty most places you get refurbished stuff gives you a 90 day warranty. I bought a refurbished switch and I think it was worth getting have no problems with it works like it was new. To save some money it is worth buying. You are basically getting the same warranty you would get for a new unit.
And sometimes, for 150€ (180$) during sales, you can have one brand new. I understand that there is a huge eco responsibility in this, But if I had to have one, I'll definitively have one, new, with 2 years warranty for cheaper than Nintendo shop.
I bought a refurbished Wii U from Nintendo back in like 2013 or so, and it's worked perfectly since then with zero issues, so I think the $30 savings is worth it.
For me this isn't worth it. I love buying refurbished products (also, Amazon Warehouse stuff) when the price and condition are right, but $30 less isn't right for this condition. The sticker on the back and the scratches on the screen are unacceptable to me. The wear on the power brick, fine. The wear on the shell, fine. Merely cosmetic, it doesn't change how the device works, I'm good with those. But I don't want to waste my time and Goo Gone removing a sticker, and the screen is a functional component and needs to be pristine. I question if this is even truly refurbished if they didn't put on an undamaged screen lens. If I had purchased this, I'd send it back for a refund. And I'm glad I saw this, now I know not to bother buying anything refurbished by Nintendo. $30 more buying new is definitely worth it to know I'm not getting a scratched screen.
Oh, it comes with a 1 year warranty to protect it from any defects. I wonder if the 1 year warranty will cover the scratched screen, which is absolutely a defect.
i received mine today brandnew felt disappointed it felt supercheap buttons felt bad. battery seem to drain faster then my v2. take note i know v2 switch has bigger battery but by observing how it drains its faster. should i return it
30 bucks isn't worth rolling the dice on having distracting scratches in the middle of the screen imo, case scuffs I couldn't care less about, but the screen is a big deal
Probably the reason why no one's doing a video on a refurbished Nintendo Switch Lite it's probably for this reason and this reason only the OLED version is out even when this video was new nobody was going to do a video on the Switch Lite when the OLED version just came out because the OLED has a better screen which means higher resolution for better graphics a better battery life and they fix the controller drift.
I mean for a refurbished product 1 to 2 scratches is like nothing. Especially since you won't see the scratch when you're in game. So Kudos to Nintendo
No thanks ...in the world of handheld systems it's better to not go the cheapo route. If it was $150 I'd be ok with it...Scratches is a no go for me ita like taking a gut punch right out of the box. Nintendo loves this cause it makes them a crap ton off a product they only had to build once. Most of these "refurbished " systems likely had easy fixes like the thumb pad drifting.
I don't see $30 as enough incentive to take a gamble on what I'm about to receive. Spending that extra $30 gets you a brand new, fresh as hell unit with all the original packaging. I am a frugal guy, but why cheap out on such a small discount with all the risk?
You would be insane to pay 30 dollars less considering the quality. But is that not something that shouldn't be accepted from Nintendo's refurbished product scheme.. Surely scratches on screens and marks on shells for 30 dollars less isn't acceptable. Ive seen Nintendo DMG's refurbished by Nintendo in better condition.
I'd be fine with the marks on the shell, they're just cosmetic, they're small, and throwing out that shell and putting a new one on is a huge waste of plastic that I'd rather not see. The screen scratches on the other hand, unacceptable. They should have put a new lens with no scratches on it.
For me honestly it's not worth it. I'd rather save up and buy a new one. Maybe if they sold it cheaper than that I would consider buying it and do a shell swap. But that's just me.
I’m a fan of refurbished products. I’ll trade the possibly of a few minor imperfections for a cheaper price *and* a product that’s been inspected and tested by a human. It’s kinda like buying a used car with a few thousand miles - sure it’s not new new but there’s less of a chance of getting a lemon (the previous/first owner assumed that risk).
A Switch Lite in this condition can easily be found for 130 € or less. Bought mine for 150 € in absolut mint condition and without ANY scratches whatsoever. The scratches on the screen would make me sick and I think the packaging may actually be worth less than an original packaging. Nothing special about it, except for a huge annoying sticker or print or whatever...
I find it interesting that the product came with a couple of scratches. In my experience, refurbished products are essentially brand new with only new internals. Hell, Apple sells refurbished products and if it weren’t for the generic packaging he would never be able to tell.

Apple has a much higher standards with their refurbished products
I’m a fan of refurbished products. I’ll trade the possibly of a few minor imperfections for a cheaper price *and* a product that’s been inspected and tested by a human.
It’s kinda like buying a used car with a few thousand miles - sure it’s not new new but there’s less of a chance of getting a lemon (the previous/first owner assumed that risk).
I never buy any used consoles because there's always the chance that something is wrong with them. I do buy used cartridges
Scratches on the screen is kind of a turn off. Not sure its worth the $30.
Peace of mind and a new battery for $30 is worth it to me!
I've picked up probably 15 Nintendo refurbished 2ds xl units from Nintendo over the years for hacking and they've all been brand new
Nice! I wish I picked up a 2ds xl before they stopped offering them
@@MachoNachoProductions haha yeah I hear you there! I got really lucky picking them up when I did
What are you playing on the Switch, Tito???
I guess its just a gamble on what you get. Id rather save 30 more dollars and get it new.
For 50 would, 30.... naaaa I rather buy new
You geht it very often for 150 Brand new in clude also the taxes
Does this means I can't find a brand new Switch Lite in 2023?😦
Switch looks like they had gamestop "refurbish" it lol
-$30 for a beat up and used unit?
Nintendo out their minds.
Pffft. Just buy a new one. Lol.
When its -$60+, then we will talk.
Not worth it for me .
For $31 I'd take scratch free new =/
Refurbished is just another word for USED
ME PREGUNTO SI TITO HABLA CASTELLANO
wtf why is it in spanish??
Nintendo europe do not sell refurbished consoles. Guess why...
I bought a new one for 170 euros lol
A Switch Lite in this condition can easily be found for 130 € or less. Bought mine for 150 € in absolut mint condition and without ANY scratches whatsoever. The scratches on the screen would make me sick and I think the packaging may actually be worth less than an original packaging. Nothing special about it, except for a huge annoying sticker or print or whatever...
Third (I know, incorrect)
But third comment
First!
Second!
