My gf got her Switch from Nintendo Refurbished last year. No cosmetic issues and still works the same as it did day one. I highly recommend refurbished systems from Nintendo.

Unfortunately Wal-Mart had just restocked the same one the day mine arrived and I realized I could’ve picked that one up or shipped it to my home for the same price and it comes with Mario Kart. I was able to buy a Switch from the refurbished site, I've been in love with it. I had the switch lite for my birthday last year with the intention of buying the bigger console and never got to. The console was in really good shape, they are v1 but its totally worth it during this crazy time

Well, all refurbished consoles are new. The thing is that they didnt make it in one of the Quality checks and went to the repair station. Thats why they are refurbished.
they likely keep turning on by accident. almost any button wakes them up and causes them to start looking for a switch. if they're just left in the open or connected to a switch(on or standby) they won't wake up, so they don't drain power as much.

So we went to the front of the store and returned it. They gave me 3 $100 dollar bills and we bought it with the card for only $300.

Try bestbuy, I ordered one last week, its coming tomorrow. 299 for the newest model with free shipping. They get new stock almost every day, you just have to be fast.
I have the same generation of Switch, and I must say, I've never had an issue with the battery personally. When I've travelled with the system, which admittedly I've not done a huge amount of, I've had a battery pack with me and both working in combination have been many times more than I've needed for the amount I wanted to play in any given day of travelling. If I was so inclined, I could extend that by having multiple battery packs. I know it's great that they addressed the issue in a revision, but I'm just saying I've never had an issue personally, and so that wouldn't put me off buying a refurbished original like this in the future.
“Refurbished” from a manufacturer’s POV could simply mean that it’s not a full package, off the line product. Meaning it’s not in the original box, it could have parts (joy cons, grip, dock, etc) from a different unit, etc. 1st party refurbished products are generally new and come with the same warranty as a new product. Apple does this same thing. Their “refurbished” line of products are brand new 99% of the time. 3rd party refurbishers are where you get used products that are jerry rigged to work.
I bought a red Nintendo 3ds XL on 7/15/2020 from the Nintendo store. The delivery took around 3 days after I placed the order. When the box arrived I couldn't be more happy to literally see a red 3ds xl with no scratches and in the naked eye it seems to be 99.9% in mint conditions. That's just my experience but I'm pretty happy about.
I actually managed to get one one after I saw spawn wave's video. It looks so much better than anything I've ever gotten from GameStop. I had to look really hard to find any blemishes

I don't live in the US or Japan, and a Switch used to cost more than 400$ (in stores) even before the stock issues... and you can't even get a refurbished system here. Oh, and did I mention that a Switch lite costs almost 300$?
260 seems a bit steep. I was able to get an original switch used from ebay a year ago for about 220. was able to hack it to run retroarch and cracked games.
Yeah $260 was steep back then, I’d agree. But considering the shortage of Switches and stuff at the moment, people are willing to pay the $260 to avoid the scalper prices on eBay and to not get a switch from a potentially sketchy eBay seller.
That code on the Nvidia chip seems like a date code. 1731 probably means 31st week of 2017. Makes sense since you mentioned your original Switch had a code of 1633, and the newer versions are from a range in the 18xx+. I wonder when the hardware was updated to block the exploits - if it was past the 31st week of 2017, then I wonder if this Switch is capable of it or if Nintendo can lock it out via a different method.
Good to have it confirmed they're shipping the original model, holding out for a newer model at or below MSRP. If the PS5 ends up shipping before that I'm not going to even bother with the Switch.

They probably dislike the way he talks on the same subject for ages. I personally too and he probably does that to stretch the video up to 10 minutes. He keeps saying the same thing; “This Joy-Con looks brand new, it doesn’t look bad or scratched. It looks like it came straight out of a brand new Joy-Con Box.” Something like that, and it’s more than that. It’s infuriating. It’s taking him 2 minutes (exaggeration) to observe a Joy-Con just to tell whether or not if it is in good condition even if he already confirmed that it is.
Brand new Nintendo switch joycons are set to shipping mode to prevent the battery from draining! The only way to turn that mode off is to slide the controller on the system or use the sync button
The definition of Refurbished doesn't necessarily mean taking in a system under warranty, replace it and then repair the broken one and resell it. In my case, I had a Lenovo laptop (I know, different device, similar concept). They could not meet repair times so they sent me a new laptop AND my broken laptop back. Since I repair laptops, I tried to repair the broken laptop. I had it working but it ended up dying a few days later. Most of the time a refurbished electronic system is basically a system that failed Quality control. It goes to repair to get fixed then 2nd QC. You can't sell a repaired laptop or computer or game console as new even though it never left the factory because it failed quality control #1. Think of it also like a Core i9. If a core i9 fails QC, it becomes a i7 and if it fails QC again, it becomes an i5 and so on (with cores disabled and or removed along the way and clocks reduced as well).
When I can’t get something new I’ll get it used, but I refuse to get anything refurbished. I know used and refurbished are basically the same thing but I’ve always had issues with things labeled as refurbished, they always break down or become defective within a few weeks. I bought a used Wii off of Mercari last week.
the switch is so expensive on the states, here in portugal the retail price is 330€, but usually on sale you can buy it really cheap, i bought mine for 250€ 2 years ago and some of my friends bought theirs for 225/230€ on black friday sales last year. Here people don't resell too much aswell there is always stock, so people almost always buy them new on the store.
Nintendo refurbs are serious business. My ds lite's hinge cracked after the warranty was over and because it was a manufacturing problem they sent me a replacement refurbished unit and I only had to pay shipping. The ds I recieved was immaculate. In better condition than my old unit with maybe one tiny blemish on the whole thing. Looked like a lot of the case parts were new.
Just bought a refurbished, I think I’ll be fine. My phone and iPad are refurbished and they work beautifully. Got the warranty too so I’ll give it a go .

Hey just wanted to let you know that companies are actually required to send batteries at less than full or dead because of the issue with Galaxy Notes a few years back, that being said I've left my joycons without taking a charge for like a week and they were dead so they definitely stay on 24/7
btw theres a much easier way to see if thats an unptached switch. the serial number can be plugged into a website that will tell you for sure if it is unpatched, patched, or possibly patched.
Most big companies are sending out brand new controllers there's no way that you can sanitize the inside without a full disassembly and controllers cost more by the hour to take apart than they do to replace that's why your batteries have never been charged because they're brand new

It gets here Friday and I can let you know. They shipped it out the same day I ordered it. I’m mainly gonna be using the pro controller/docked mode so hopefully the refurbished was the right move. Upgrading from the switch lite.

The joycons and grip are definitely brand new. I was worried that I should’ve went with new but I am 100% satisfied with this. I put what I saved towards a pro controller and it’s a great controller.
I got my Mario Red Joy Con Refurbished Switch from Nintendo back in 2018 and have had zero issues with it. They used to have the Splatoon Joy Con ones too, but seem to have discontinued them.

Nintendo has always had the highest standards for their refurbished products on their site, dating back almost 20 years. They will go out of their way to ensure that the outside cosmetic is 99% perfect, going as far to replace outer shells of screens, plastics, and buttons with OEM parts. Most of the time, by refurbished they mean to say that they took the inside components of their products (PCB, chipset Internals, ETC,) fixed whatever the issue was, and reshelled them with new exterior parts. Although their pricing can sometimes feel like it's not far off the MSRP of a new product, they do offer a year of warranty and on states with higher taxes (like California) can mean you get a like-new out of the factory product without paying any sales tax. This is also why their refurbished products usually tend to be of one model/colour, they mass produce a colour, or scheme for extra parts to refurbish these products (for example only having a choice of one colour). You were also able to get OEM parts directly from them, including game cases, chargers, controllers, batteries, and extra misc console accessory replacement parts from them a few years ago.
I wouldn’t use the markings on the SoC as indication for whether or not it’s hackable. There has been several completely unrelated SoC revisions and I doubt they’d bump the SoC revision for the patch (the SoC itself received no changes,). But it probably is patched, yea.

I've noticed that joycons go dead surprisingly quickly when not being used. Nintendo may have charged them and they just drained out over time.
Mine don’t before I had a controller they would go a week on my joycon grip without needing to be charged and 5-6 hours of daily use

Something like that, and it’s more than that. It’s infuriating. It’s taking him 2 minutes (exaggeration) to observe a Joy-Con just to tell whether or not if it is in good condition even if he already confirmed that it is.
I also got a refurbished switch. When I got it, it was in really good condition. Nothing had noticable scratches. And the system was working properly!

Brand new Nintendo switch joycons are set to shipping mode to prevent the battery from draining! The only way to turn that mode off is to slide the controller on the system or use the sync button

The definition of Refurbished doesn't necessarily mean taking in a system under warranty, replace it and then repair the broken one and resell it. In my case, I had a Lenovo laptop (I know, different device, similar concept). They could not meet repair times so they sent me a new laptop AND my broken laptop back. Since I repair laptops, I tried to repair the broken laptop. I had it working but it ended up dying a few days later. Most of the time a refurbished electronic system is basically a system that failed Quality control. It goes to repair to get fixed then 2nd QC. You can't sell a repaired laptop or computer or game console as new even though it never left the factory because it failed quality control #1. Think of it also like a Core i9. If a core i9 fails QC, it becomes a i7 and if it fails QC again, it becomes an i5 and so on (with cores disabled and or removed along the way and clocks reduced as well).
When I can’t get something new I’ll get it used, but I refuse to get anything refurbished. I know used and refurbished are basically the same thing but I’ve always had issues with things labeled as refurbished, they always break down or become defective within a few weeks. I bought a used Wii off of Mercari last week.
the switch is so expensive on the states, here in portugal the retail price is 330€, but usually on sale you can buy it really cheap, i bought mine for 250€ 2 years ago and some of my friends bought theirs for 225/230€ on black friday sales last year. Here people don't resell too much aswell there is always stock, so people almost always buy them new on the store.

Nintendo refurbs are serious business. My ds lite's hinge cracked after the warranty was over and because it was a manufacturing problem they sent me a replacement refurbished unit and I only had to pay shipping. The ds I recieved was immaculate. In better condition than my old unit with maybe one tiny blemish on the whole thing. Looked like a lot of the case parts were new.
Just bought a refurbished, I think I’ll be fine. My phone and iPad are refurbished and they work beautifully. Got the warranty too so I’ll give it a go .

Hey just wanted to let you know that companies are actually required to send batteries at less than full or dead because of the issue with Galaxy Notes a few years back, that being said I've left my joycons without taking a charge for like a week and they were dead so they definitely stay on 24/7
btw theres a much easier way to see if thats an unptached switch. the serial number can be plugged into a website that will tell you for sure if it is unpatched, patched, or possibly patched.
ordered a white 32gb WiiU from Nintendo Refurbs right when the Switch came out, was $179 came in brand new condition.
Most big companies are sending out brand new controllers there's no way that you can sanitize the inside without a full disassembly and controllers cost more by the hour to take apart than they do to replace that's why your batteries have never been charged because they're brand new
Here in Canada the normal price for the snitch is 400 (plus tax) and people are reselling them for up to 1000 dollars

It gets here Friday and I can let you know. They shipped it out the same day I ordered it. I’m mainly gonna be using the pro controller/docked mode so hopefully the refurbished was the right move. Upgrading from the switch lite.
@@joudo7 I know it’s been a while but I just got my refurbished switch from Nintendo and everything seems brand new aside from one small scratch on the screen of the switch. The joycons and grip are definitely brand new. I was worried that I should’ve went with new but I am 100% satisfied with this. I put what I saved towards a pro controller and it’s a great controller.
I got my Mario Red Joy Con Refurbished Switch from Nintendo back in 2018 and have had zero issues with it. They used to have the Splatoon Joy Con ones too, but seem to have discontinued them.
I just picture the folks over at Nintendo that run maintenance on these devices just sweating bullets watching this video.

I got a refurbished Switch for my birthday from Best Buy. It was the only Switch around $300 that wasn’t sold out. It works wonderfully! Even came in the original box!

I just got one from a Walmart close to me and got really lucky the only one in my state that had one I even had a employee tell me they would buy it! I paid 300$ for v2 I was wounding was it a mistake? To get a Nintendo switch cause a lot of people told me there is no games for it coming out soon and this year has been bad but I tell them I didn’t even play any Nintendo switch games yet so I have a huge library to catch up on?! Sorry for the rant just wanted a opinion!

Nintendo has always had the highest standards for their refurbished products on their site, dating back almost 20 years. They will go out of their way to ensure that the outside cosmetic is 99% perfect, going as far to replace outer shells of screens, plastics, and buttons with OEM parts. Most of the time, by refurbished they mean to say that they took the inside components of their products (PCB, chipset Internals, ETC,) fixed whatever the issue was, and reshelled them with new exterior parts. Although their pricing can sometimes feel like it's not far off the MSRP of a new product, they do offer a year of warranty and on states with higher taxes (like California) can mean you get a like-new out of the factory product without paying any sales tax.
This is also why their refurbished products usually tend to be of one model/colour, they mass produce a colour, or scheme for extra parts to refurbish these products (for example only having a choice of one colour). You were also able to get OEM parts directly from them, including game cases, chargers, controllers, batteries, and extra misc console accessory replacement parts from them a few years ago.
I wish Nintendo sold the console only without joycons new and refurbished

Spawn wave Nintendo replaces ALL exterior casing screens etc on refurb products. That’s part of their process.
I wouldn’t use the markings on the SoC as indication for whether or not it’s hackable. There has been several completely unrelated SoC revisions and I doubt they’d bump the SoC revision for the patch (the SoC itself received no changes,). But it probably is patched, yea.
