Today we get a Sneak Peak at the all NEW consolizer kits for the Game Boy Color (GBHD Color) and the DMG (GBHD Retro). These kits will turn your Game Boy handheld into a Home Console. It will allow you to output video from your Game Boy (Color) onto a high definition TV! The kit supports up to 720p which looks absolutely fantastic! Now, the kits I’ll be looking at in this episode are pre-production units meaning the final version of these kits may be a bit slightly different and improved. For me the biggest thing I'd absolutely adore if anyone made a kit for is essentially a modern Dreamcast VMU with a better screen, rechargable battery, micro sd for more storage and easy backups, and maybe a usb port for charging when outside the controller. Not sure how possible any of that is but a rechargable battery alone is enough to make me happy

Most definitively they have to do something for the GBA.
There has been one for gba for a year or two now, and the gba can already natively play GB and GBC cartridges.
@@coopercummings8370 I noticed, but I find it a bit cumbersome in their current form, maybe they can simplify the process for consumers less experienced with welding and stuff.

And it's not the only! There are other av gba consolizer. And a other hdmi gba consolizer is gba HD which is under 100€ and open source that everyone can build it. And it is for gba and gba sp with a better fpga as woozles thing

I guess a motorized dolly, you can get one quite cheaply from aliexpress from brands like Andoer or Yelangu

they could just put the connections inside the game boy/game boy color and a door underneath there make a separate box for the fpga with a connection on top and then you come and put your game boy/game boy color in the slot and you're done just like in switch

I'd really like to see a home console to play 3DS and DS games. They are some of the few games that don't have a way to be played on TV.
Horribly complex because of the touch screen. You would probably just need to somehow use a whole console as a controller as well, so 2 consoles needed.
@@PinkBunnyCorporation Not necessary for some games. For example pokemon can be played easily on emulators because the touch screen is optional, you can press x to use the bottom screen controls.
The best thing for this is to create an hdmi solution on the console itself. Consolizing it would be difficult as it would require a controller with a touch screen to make it work. You could connect a dual ribbon cable into the wifi slot and add a Bluetooth controller, but you'd have to program the Bluetooth controller for it. By the way, that isn't easy. I tried

@@mrdjr6544 well that doesn't include original compatibility like wireless play for games like pokemon ranger guardian of the signs. Yes it has a touch screen, but it doesn't solve the problem of the 3ds titled games on a TV screen either.

Really happy to see new products in the with consolizers. Would love to see a GBA one from them since I think more stuff in that space would be great. Would also be cool to see a version that kept the screen live but had an HDMI video out, not sure if that would be possible though.

This is honestly so dope! I grew up on Pokemon but I kinda got over Gameboy and Gameboy Color games but this might get me back on it! Crazy how people can do amazing things like this! Great channel as well! The newer option for N64 HDMI out is cool!

I'm looking forward to this coming out. As for other mods, a DS one would be amazing, would be interested in more GameCube mods also, but one mod I would love to see is a switch like dock for the GBA
The dock idea is superb
Analogue Pocket is kinda that idea. It's a GBA with the form factor of a GBC, and it has a Switch-like dock.
It's made by the creators of the Analogue NT.
@@AndySola problem is there is never any stock, and the cost is out of reach for some people. I would like to see a dock, but making it out of original hardware, just with mods to it

I'd like to see a kit utilizing the gba sp board, I know the gba consolizer already exists, but the gba sp boards could allow a smaller form factor. Maybe add a retro-pixel grid option for the screen too
Woozle's working on an SP version of his kit. I guess we'll see if he gets it out first or someone beats him to it.
Woozle just needs a shell that looks less jank. Otherwise, a sp would be great. The original is small enough imo.

I absolutely love the footprint of the GBHD Retro, it’s a simple design but shows the passion for what they do and It’s always great to see the Gameboy community trying new things on such a fantastic console! I can see Game Box easily making a GBA kit in the near future, but it would be really cool if they tackled a console conversion kit for the Neo Geo Pocket Color or Game Gear.
Curious to see if these guys could pull something off for the GBA and Nintendo DS. I would love to see a consolizer for DS that can be plugged to 2 different monitors (1 for the top screen and 1 for bottom screen). Bonus points if they add an option to increase the internal 3D resolution so games will look like HD ports for a newer console!

I second this. Too bad almost every Game Gear needs recapped to work properly. Need a clone of it. Heard atGames had a nearly perfect one minus a cartridge slot. Thirty games on a flash chip with no way to add more...

I'd love to see a GBA version. A case that emulates the look of a full sized console (NES, SNES, N64) would be really cool.
I mean, can you imagine sliding a Game Boy cart into a mini NES?
Id like them to make a psp consolizer. Id love to be able to use umd's on a tv, with a ps3 controller. Psp3000 supports tv out, but not controllers. 1000 or 2000 don't support tv or controllers. PspGo doesn't support UMDs at all. A nice kit i could shove a cheap 1000 into would be a great use for psps with busted screens etc.

I guess a solution for the psp is indeed needed. There're alternatives, but they vary a lot among them as you described. You clearly put a focus on specifically playing UMDs, and there's no current solution for that. I do play on my tv with original HW thru a psp go, i use a ps3 ds3 via Bluetooth since the psp go supports it . And since i have it connected to a PS Monitor (component) , psp games are displayed full screen, not stretched or anything (it is a special feature of that sony monitor). But, clearly it dont play UMDs, i play my game via digital, since the psp is hacked, i add all the isos i want. But yes, a solution to consolize a PSP would be awesome.

This is so cool! I love when people figure out ways to do handheld gaming on a big screen. I personally have never liked and health gaming because I’ve always found it uncomfortable craning my neck down to view the screen. I’ve been like that ever since I was a little kid. Ha ha!

damn these are nice, eventually would like to see a GG version of this some day but I think going this far you could essentially put the cores into the FPGA and do GB, GBC, and GG all in one unit maybe

@@zakuabo yea but the Mister is designed more as a ROM box, these are designed more like analogue systems which target carts but using real hardware instead of the logic core. What I'm suggesting is something in the middle, like if analogue ever made a retron 5 lol. Would be a pretty large undertaking but would be more of a complete product ready to sell rather than a DIY project and if you target GB, GBC, and GG those are all "relatively simple" systems to core up in an FPGA.
I would like to see a consolising mod for the 3DS that utilises the Wii U GamePad as the bottom screen but with other controlling methods as well.
Or even just your cellphone if you had to
This is the coolest gameboy consolizer I’ve seen so far. Love the small compact colorful design in case you want to bring it on the go. My favorite part is that it supports 8bitdo wireless game pad. Your my favorite console mod channel on RUclips. Would love to see either a PSP or GBA consolizer. Keep up the good work and have a great day.

I love seeing a new video from you, you always show products that I've never heard about and it's exciting. I would love to see something to play DS games on, maybe somehow mod a gamecube where the TV is the top screen and the bottom screen is a GBA connected with an adapter. I feel the biggest hurdle is definitely the two screens, you either need to compromise by fitting them on one screen or innovate through another way
A wonderswan audio mod would be great. I'm a simple man.
I was just discussing with a friend that I would like something like this for PSP, rather than playing games, to watch UMD movies on TV as I have a rather large collection of.
Just get a psp 3000, that model natively supports video out through its headphone jack (but you'll need a special cable made for psp)
@@damantioworks I have a lot of psp, 1000, 2000, 3000 and GO, I just miss the street model, but what I would like is something fixed, compatible with a wireless pad (the way that if I want to play it I don't have to stay too close to the TV), possibly with an hdmi output and which always coincides with the aspect ratio of the TV (which does not happen with psp 2000/3000 + component cable).
And it would also be nice if it was easy to replace the umd drive, as it is very fragile and tends to break on its own.
Yeah, I have a PSP video out cable. One of the problems is that it only takes up a quarter of the screen, but there is homebrew software that fixes that.

Day by day come out many new consoles and projects for revival the glorious GameBoy system and... WE LOVE IT!
Great video! Amazing quality as per usual. The GBHD Retro and Color look like fun starter projects for those who want to dip their toes into modding.
Some ideas for future projects and works that can come up with would be
Gameboy Player for NGC HD consolizer or an alternative GBA consolizer to compete with woozles current model. Something with the NDS/NDS Lite or even 2DS to have HDMI out. Last the ability to include the classic console controllers to the GBHD Retro would also be cool.

@@powerchordgamer Yest but it uses your real GBA not FPGA.
PSP 2000 and 3000 models can already be played on a TV with PSP video cables. I play my 3000 on my TV through an OSSC with componet calbes, its pretty cool. The 1000 model on the other hand would be a neat project for full on consolization though, maybe get Dualshock 3 wireless support for it.

These are awesome Tito! One of my favorite handhelds is the Neo Geo pocket color so it would be fantastic to play on tv with a proper joystick for those great fighting games

I’d really like to see consolizing kits for the DS and the 3DS/2DS. The capture kits from Optimize/Katsukity or Loopy are hard to come by and aren’t really consolizers.
This is why I love the retro gaming community! Keep up the good work! I hope this is a huge success. Gotta love using the original gameboy hardware! HD video for older games is definitely something that needs to more accessable. I hope I have the extra funds when this is available. I would love to play Banishing Racer on the big screen 😂🤣. Looking forward to seeing what's coming next. I'd like to know if overclocking the gameboy hardware would work with the Gamebox. Also being able to use it as a in-home streaming device through a internal network would be amazing. Screen sharing to any TV, tablet, phone or PC on the same network would be awesome!

Is there a reason you are comparing the GBHD to composite out on GC instead of (or including) comparing it to hdmi/digital out on the GC?
Edit: Just genuinely curious as to the reason.
Paired with an OSSC and Component cables, you can get a 1080p razor sharp GBA/GB picture from the GameCube.
Can’t speak for this mod, but it looks noticeably sharper than the GBA Consolizer which also does 720p.
Granted, that’s more than $300 worth of stuff.

It was mostly to compare to what most people probably have available to them. In a way it was the lowest common denominated. I could have used my CARBY to compare but I guess I though that would make the comparison more convoluted. Great question though!
@@MachoNachoProductions fair point. Composite is the baseline. I’m sure comparing all hd Gameboy playing solutions will just be getting into super finite details that almost no one will notice.

Loving the results from this. I agree with what other people have said about a Game Gear consolizer, but I'd love to see this Gameboy unit have a slightly different case, with controller holsters, similar to the Famicom. Great video Tito!
Great video Tito, as always. These kits look amazing and high quality for sure. I guess for me, I would love to see modding expand to other retro handhelds beyond the Gameboy line. I currently have a NGPC Slim that I'm ready to do an IPS mod on but it requires shell modification and I just can't bring myself to do that on OEM shells. And what's worse, there are no replacement third party shells for the Slim that I'm aware of. So yeah I would love for the same attention be given to the handhelds that time forgot so they too can be displayed with honor on every retro lover's shelf, not just mine. Love the Consolizer mods! These are very well designed!
I'd love to see more handheld systems get the same level of love in a Consolizer mod, I'd be all over a Consolized Neo Geo Pocket Color.
Also, for mods like this, I've always wanted to see a wireless controller board designed to fit down inside a handheld console shell. Imagine flipping on your TV, booting up the Consolized Gameboy, grabbing a Gameboy that acts as the wireless controller and using that to play on your television. That's my dream set up.

Great video; I'm definitely putting these on my consideration list for future projects! I don't have the heart to tear down my childhood Gameboy Color, but I'm sure I could find a cheap one with a broken screen or something online.
As for future GameBox products, I'd love to see their handheld consolizer line continue to expand. Primarily I'd be interested in Gameboy Advance and Game Gear consolizers, but less-popular handhelds like WonderSwan or Atari Lynx consolizers would be really cool, too!

Good job on these mods. 3DS and DS TV out mods were existed back then but those are not easily accessible right now. Some mods for these consoles would be awesome.
