- In this video we explore the second DLC of Dark Souls 3 -- The Ringed City. This footage has gameplay of the new matchmaking arena system allowing for random and private PvP battles of 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and Brawls which are a free-for-all of 2, 4 and 6 person battles.
This video is based on early footage of Dark Souls 3 gameplay the Ringed City DLC from a Bandai Namco event on March 15, 2017. At the event I was allowed to play the first several hours of the DLC, but this video primarily covers the new PvP arena modes of Brawl and Team battles.

+BoltOfMight Every Souls game my first build is a "paladin" with STR/faith, DS3 has thoroughly disappointed me in that regard. Miracles suck.
The bow though is pretty awesome. It can be held as long as you want so it's much better than most spells which are extremely easy to dodge. Because you can let the miracle "cook" it's much better to punish people for roll spamming with a well-timed lightning arrow.

I just wish that they didn't butcher Faith, and Sorceries (To a lesser extent) so harshly in this game.
Pyromancies is at least decent, but Pyromancies is the new thing to hate (Like Sorceries in DkS2). Some say otherwise, but I digress.
Oh well. At least it still looks cool though.
what's more important here is not only can you hold it but it seems like you can also cancel it by rolling. This is what spells need because it introduces unpredictability.
mohammed nabhan Exactly! Miracles like sunlight spear and lighting stake do good damage, but they're relatively slow, meaning you'll be making trades pretty frequently. That lighting arrow miracle is gonna be a great tool for us filthy clerics!

heyo! can you also aim like a normal bow? you know go to that weird first person mode to aim, as if not then how hard is it to hit people?
Also I'm disappointed to see projected heal, if it's anything like emit force, the hit box is bad and most likely will hit the ground, Not sure on name but that big AOE Boss heal will [probably make this worthless

i really hope these are not the only 2 new arenas cause i feel like they could of done more like classic ones from the dark souls series. One of them could of been Oolacile Township, Iron Keep Bridge, and blighttown where you find the dragon scale was a popular pvp area and i can go on but damn it would of been a great idea to pay tribute for the fans.
I agree with Max Powers. Things are looking like that. Ashes of Ariandel was a Joke, but we all bought the Season Pass already. From has our money, now they just need to make the run for it. They wont add anything more than 2 DLCs.

Its EXACTLY like Max said. I predict it. Ringed City will be the last DLC. Hopefully not disappointing, although that could also still happen.
After these 2 DLCs, it will be OVER. There will be a few bug fixes and adjustments to the new weapons (that make them more or less broken) and then From will let DS3 die.
They probably already moved on to Bloodborne 2 or, i don't know, Shadow Souls, after this DLC being released, they will abandon DS3 for good. Trust me and mark my words.

That bow spell looks like it'll cause quite a bit of salt when its used to range-kill people.

I remember the undodgable bow kills from dark souls 2 and the salt it caused. That bow miracle and that fire shield spam looks like it will be a massive tumour when the ringed city comes out. To be honest, the ring knight ability looks kind of reasonable from the footage so far. But that bow somehow made me angry and caused DS2 flashbacks when I saw that short-range bow kill.
The Not-God-Emperor Of Mankind But imagine fighting someone who just uses that same fire attack chain over and over, and the attacks are in a very quick succession, if you kept getting caught in it it would quickly destroy you. I guess it might not be as bad as the bow and shield, but still im not looking forward to fighting scrubs who spam that like they spam r1.
That fire sword is my new fav weapon and hopefully magic and miracles will buffed a little more to make these new spells a little more viable

That straight sword's weapon art looks OP af. Seems like it will pair up very nicely with a WA shield.

The ringed knight sword looks like just the weapon I needed for my pyromancy build. There aren't really any innate fire damage one handed swords in the base game. Also, that weapon art is basically soul of cinder's mega combo without the explosion.
Logan Hamby and it's going to be my go to gank destroyer weapon before they nerf it into the ground because it might stand a chance against ganks.
I hope that gank squads forget that the lothric banner and projected heal exist. It would be so annoying to have a whole squad of super buffed guys with a healer to boot.

Well, I say pyromancy but it's really more like a pyro/quality hybrid build. Still with liberal application of forbidden suns of course (or chaos vestiges or whatever the kids are calling it these days).

Does the sunlight spear create an AOE and shoot lightning, or only do one at a time? Is the dragon's head a shield or a weapon, or both?

i really wish this showcased the weapons a little more but hey it was nice to see the new weapons. i mean that dragon head looks really cool. was that the weapon art? can it be two handed? is it a fist weapon? and how does the projectile heal work? i didn't see it used at all during that. i liked the angels arena but don't care much about the first arena you showed off. the sword is a bit disappointing that it's not always on fire which could make me interested in using it but whatever. i'm glad to see the lightning bow was actually a miracle. but i didn't see you use it so i'm wondering if you can actually aim it or if it just... shoots after you tap the button like with all other miracles

you think this is bad? you havent seen IGN play these arenas :P i found this footage to be more than acceptable, we got to see a bunch of new things, decent use of the new weapons, and decent play from pretty much everyone.
Anymore wet noddle hit miracles? But I do like the range heal. It's new different. Even though the bow is good maybe but with the way faith builds are and the lack of end game talismans or chimes the gods know as fromsoft is abandoning the sun. Oh sun where u go? We watch as we went to the sun in dark souls 2 but in the end we see only darkness.

+Malevolent Macaroni I can't talk about or show that stuff. If you notice the one time I open the inventory I blurred out the stat screen. This is most likely due to the fact that stats can be altered or adjusted up until the day of release.
Other streamers were able to say that the dragonfire shield had high base AR without scaling. I just want to know if the ringed knight sword needs dedicated pyro stats, or if quality stats will work.

So they pretty much used an unconnected area from Archdragon Peak that didn't make the cut in the regular game and called it a PVP arena. FROM SOFTWARE was completely lazy with this final souls game. I'm going to get the DLC as usual, but not expect much because Ashes of Ariendal was garbage.

DS2 had really fun pvp, but the overall content and gameplay was terrible in the main game.

I hope this dlc will be good but after Ariandel, which I didn't buy thank God, and Dks3 as a whole, I'm disappointed in From. I want to buy this but going off how they spoil a lot in trailers, it looks like the Crimson Bat is the main boss. The thing is literally only mentioned as a bit of text on Lorians sword. I want answers to the world and what lies beyond it. I don't care how epic the bosses are, if they don't end the series appropriately, I won't buy it.
Supposedly "The crimson bat" is just a mini boss. We'll know when I comes out. I feel you though. I'm sitting here in hope that they end it right.

High Lord Nexus How do you not like Ashes of Ariandel? The vast snowy fields, and the mountains and, the icey depths of the painting were so beautiful. And Friede was such an amazing boss, like just as good as Lady Maria. And in addition the new weapons were all badass and fun to use. There wasnt much new armor which was a little disappointing, and the first boss was pretty lame, but he unlocks the pvp arena which is always fun at least to me. Overall is was fantastic and was more beautiful and fun than most of the areas in the base game.

I hate this game's PVP. Though I can't think of a logical reason other than I'm either bad at it or I don't optimize my characters for it.
This is the only Souls game that I don't get consistent wins, and I lose nearly every time... then again the lag "phantom range" I have been experiencing on my allegedly high speed internet makes it almost impossible to play anyways: weapons like the great club seem to hit 50% further from it's length... even from the side of the weapon. I once died to a drop attack like six feet away from the weapon. Or I get hit by a spear when I'm on a player's side... the side that isn't even holding the spear.
Almost every time I lose, attacks never look like they're connecting. Meanwhile the hits I deal on my screen make a damage dealing sound but don't cause stagger or apparent health damage (I say apparent because I know the health bar doesn't always drop when another player is damaged.)
Even so this could probably be avoided if I had optimized my characters correctly. I guess I could dedicate to being a pvp powerhouse and maybe get decent wins, but I think it's wildly unbalanced and unfair that I would spend hours and hours and hours on a character only for it to completely suck at PVP. That, to me, makes it more of a grind than skill-based experience.
Why have 50 strength and 25 faith/int (a versatile strength pyro hybrid) when I could just dump all of my stats into one or the other and demolish a player by spamming r1 or spamming spells?
One solution is the amazing Rebirth system, but it's limit per game cycle means I would eventually be forced to choose between a cool build I like that does different things, or just another generic fighter or mage pvp build.
And then there's Bloodborne... although the stats and mechanics are mathematically simplified, leveling into anything is ultimately useful -as it should be, why should a game punish you for choosing your hard-earned stat increase (your main reward for sticking with the game) "wrong"?- the combat allows for such versatile and cool builds. Pretty much all gear and stats are viable and none of the weapons are garbage, you can use whatever you want. In addition to this, you don't have to unintuitively toggle between gear mid-fight as much to keep the enemy on their toes; in Bloodborne everything from Bloodtinge, Arcane and Strength/Skill gear as well as the ability to heal through blood vials are all available to you at the same time on seperate buttons AND you can still toggle between more if need be. This makes for a satisfying, flowing PVP experience. Wheras Dark Souls requires you to toggle through spells, healing, special gear, and weapons all individually.
This is manageable with my dex build that has six weapons and no spells, or my mage who only uses the "dark spells", but if you want to mix and match you're pretty much screwed outside PVE.
I don't blame the developers. I can't imagine them adhering to the same formula as the original Demon Souls without wonky, unbalanced PVP. Which is why I'm glad this will hopefulky be their last Dark Souls as PVP is really what gave Bloodborne replay value to me.

Francesco Morselli Lmao idk what planet your living on, but I dont really constitute thousands of people alone on twitch playing for honor, not even adding in the constant stream of for honor content here on youtube, every eso streamer, AND dark souls streamer/ playing and loving for honor. The only community dying is dark souls sadly, especially the pvp community, 90%of it has moved to for honor.
After playing For Honor extensively (alphas and betas) I can no longer see the point of any DS pvp as they have very little depth (the only depth comes from unintended glitches).
I hope FromSoftware draws from For Honor because I'd like to see a game with its Art of Battle combat system in the dark fantasy setting of a Souls game with areas rich in visual detail and lore.
I just hope it happens in my lifetime.

Im less annoyed by that fire longsword, sure its got good range and a more versatile WA moveset than i had thought, but it seems that even after the second part of the combo it only deals 400-500 damage so far to people in medium/heavyish gear.
we are gonna see a LOT of that weapon in PVP, so im happy that ive seen proof in this video that it doesnt have stupid amounts of hyper-armour during its Weapon Art combo, its Focus consumption is low, its got good range, but not insanely high damage, and it seems hyper-armour can get through it with a bit of trading, which is good, basically its how Friede's Scythe is right now where the WA is obvious, so you can dodge it fairly easily, and you can poise through it with a bigger weapon, which is how it should be.
Why didn't you use the dragon head thing?
I really hope a patch comes out that makes sorceries and miracles better.

there's a twist to this one though, it's not just normal r1 spam, you have to hold L2 while doing it. That makes a huge difference in terms of skill, it's going to be a very steep learning curve given the r1 muscle memory we have

You have to perfectly and skillfully time your R1 Spams with your fingertip, very very precisely to gain the maximum amount of broken stunlock and dont forget to use point down and wear a full Edgy Fallen Knight Set to be the most edgy kid on the internet.
So, I know you're joking, but I don't think it's very appropriate for this special weapon. I'd agree if it was like the CCS or the Gargoyle Spear, but with this one it seems actually worth using other stuff than the L2+R1, for example the normal R1s and R2s as well as the L2+R2.
I know, but I've always been a fan of weapons that buff themselves or have really cool attack combos, and since I mainly use pyromancy I figured that sword would be a great addition to my arsenal ^^

If you get hit by the initial swing you're confirmed locked in for a total of 4 hits. And yes, it has a lot of range, is fast and has large sweeps so it's pretty easy to lock up an unsuspecting opponent. That said, that first swing can be parried. You should honestly be more afraid of the shield doors being exploited, they're extremely powerful when used properly.

Different one. Ringed Knights use the small ones and the straight sword. It was shown in a trailer. The Greathshield dragon head has HP regen as weapon art from what was in its description.

Been playing a lot of Nioh so they have opposite menu/gesture buttons... I kept hitting the wrong button and it took me forever to pull up the gestures. Took just long enough for someone plunge the hell out of me.

Correct. We didn't see any new sorceries but I find it extremely hard to believe that there are no new sorceries in the DLC. I could give you some hints toward what I think it's going to be but I won't say unless you ask, people freak about the smallest spoilers.

The last one was a little bit small, but still worth buying imo. I mean, you must be pretty poor if you can't spend five more dollars than it might be worth when counting in "money per content".
They have also stated multiple times that they heard our feedback and will have much more content than ashes of ariandel. there is 4 bosses a couple mini bosses more weapons pyromancies,sorceries and so on. but then again ashes is like 10 bucks and ringed is 15 so if you cant spend 5 more dollars for more than double of AoA, then there is a bigger problem than the dlc. This is the last DLC you really think they won't end it with something big?
