    I bought a 21 Toyota Venza hybrid which is similar to the system in the NX. During winter months in Minnesota, my mpg dropped from averaging 40 mpg in-town to 31. Cold (very cold) has a negative effect on efficiency as the battery can not warm up and you use more of the ICE which in my case is a 2.5 4-cylinder. As it warms up p, the mpg will increase.

    • @GaryHwang

    Hi your new NX350h is beautiful…we are still waiting for one in South Florida…they will not take a reservation or allow you to “order” one…so we keep stalking the dealerships when they get their new “allocation” list …you are so lucky to get one…I have been watching RUclips videos on this car and general info for several months and if I could make a suggestion, there is a Toyota Master Technician name “AMD” (The Car Care Nut) he is a very informative guy and he answers questions as well…He suggests you should change your oil right at about 1,000 miles just to flush any manufacturing metal shavings out before they work their way into your engine …he also has a whole video about the “break in” period of a new car…heavy acceleration, constant driving at one speed and hard breaking are some of the the things he advises not to do. He also said try to keep your speed under 60mph for the first thousand miles…you might learn some valuable things about your new car…also never ever jump another vehicle from your hybrid (there are a few exceptions to this which he goes into) Nice video!! Great job on explaining your pros and cons…really appreciate it!

    • @GaryHwang
      @GaryHwang  2 года назад +1

      Thank you! The market is crazy right now and unfortunately we weren't able to pick the features and add ons on the vehicle. Honestly the premium package is a waste of $3.5k and they put in a lot of bullshit features and add ons that easily adds on an extra 6-10k worth of stuff. We ended up paying 50k total.
      Thanks I will definitley look into changing our oil soon and thanks for the advice I really appreciate it!

    Great review , the looks of this car reminds me of the jaguar F type so thumbs up , just think the centre control part looks a bit busy but not a deal breaker . I thought this would be doing better MPG being an hybrid and finally I hate runflats from my days of owning a bmw, they make the ride hard and in wet conditions slippy due to the hard compound once I swapped to normal tyres it improved ride quality a lot and with the added bonus of all season tyres handles better in wet and it’s pretty wet in the U.K.

    Hybrids are great for town and city driving because the electric motor can kick in. On highways the car is mainly in full gasoline mode so for a 2.5L engine you won’t get amazing mileage. I’m planning on getting the NX350H F Sport. Also Lexus has the best leather. The door handles inside the car has a manual option where you can pull the lever towards you for manual release.

    Greetings from North Carolina. Last month I went to a Lexus dealer looking for an NX but there were no hybrids available; they said that it would be months of waiting. Well, in the dealer's lot I found a 2022 ES300h, explored and test-drove it. Loved it, and brought it home! I paid around $1300 over list price, listed on the bill as some kind of markup or other. The engine noise during sharp acceleration is surely there but not bad; it is rare that I push the gas pedal to that extent anyhow; I only do so if I get on to a busy road and I see a vehicle approaching super fast. Most of the time the engine noise is really low. The road noise is very low and the ride, excellent. It is rated at 44 mpg but the car displays that I am getting around 38 mpg. My previous ES350 only gave 22 mpg average. I looked inside an NX and thought the cabin was more cramped than in the ES.
    One other comment: we have a Tesla Model 3 in the family. The road noise is higher than with the ES300h and the ride is distinctly more rough. Both have 18 inch wheels. Well, the Tesla is indeed a sporty car and I guess we need to realize that and accept the rougher ride. Same with the road noise I guess; noise dampening is maybe not a high priority for Tesla. But that said, wow, the Tesla is such a delightful car; it accelerates like a rocket with no noise at all. The AutoPilot is really superb. Though, when we got it in 2018, the AutoPilot often acted kind of drunk. In my 300h, with AutoCruise (radar) on, it still barrels towards the front car in high speed, and slams the brakes on close to the front car; very scary. But sometimes it is more careful. All this just like Tesla before they progressively improved the radar-controlled autocruise. Took about 3 years! COME ON, Lexus, don't scare the sh*t out of me like this! :)

    Hi Gary. This video was great. I’m looking to get the Lexus 450h +. The only question I have is that I drive 58 miles one way to work, so a total of 116 miles a day. Do you think this car would be beneficial for someone like me who has to drive 116 per day for a full week? Any suggestions would be great value for me. Thanks.

    • @GaryHwang
      @GaryHwang  2 года назад +1

      That's a lot of driving for 1 day! I drive usually about 70 miles round trip everyday. I suggest 450h might not be worth it because it will cost an additional $10k but then you would qualify for $7500 tax credit. The full electric range is only up to 36 miles so then you would drive the other 22+58 = 80 miles on gas.
      So it really depends, do you think an extra $10k would be worth it for that 36 miles of full electric? It's your choice at the end of the day depending on what you want out of the car. I'm getting around 37mpg on my 350h now so I'm happy with that for an SUV getting that mileage

    My interest in electric cars and hybrids is to reduce green house gas emissions not save gas (and yes I understand the relationship between the two). Until you pointed it out, I didn’t know this car is automatically in electric mode at low speeds. Since most of my driving is around town at low speeds, the higher priced 450h Plus may be unnecessary as long as the electric range of your model is adequate. Dealers tend to emphasize the word “suggested” in Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) and charge as much as anybody is willing to pay. I’m not willing to pay over MSRP so if supply is so low and demand so high that dealers never have to charge MSRP, then I’ll never buy this car and look elsewhere.

    What are your thoughts on the need for premium gas for the car? I have the previous hybrid and it doesn't need premium. I've been told you can get away with not using premium, but I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not.

    • @GaryHwang

      That's a very good question. I mean this new model's engine requires premium fuel and yes I'm sure you can get away with putting regular gas, but in the long run it would slightly damage the engine since the combustion timing would differ between 93 octane and 89 octane. I prefer paying the extra $0.50 more per gallon for lexus reliability

      @@GaryHwang Thanks for the quick reply. I thought it was odd when someone brought that to my attention as an option. Btw, did you buy or lease your NX? My lease is just about to end, so I'm thinking about grabbing this one, since they are a rare beast to find.

    I still like the regular shifter but I guess I’ll get used to the new way they doing things 😢
    I feel like the old PRNDL shifter is better.
