A Canon is just a bullet without a gun. The cannon is the bullet casing. A primer get detonated on both but instead of an exposed bullet making pressure and spin on a barrel the bullet is deep in the casing and uses its caseing as its barrel.

i suggest using a hex key as a ram rod as that way you can keep yourfingers away from the bore, especially important if you use homemade powder

The trunnions fit tightly (but smoothly) in the carriage which allows you to elevate the barrel without having to "tighten" anything.
